Think there's a bug with Ancient Vampires; had one come to my fortress as a migrant. Whenever he fought, all his enemies that were humanoid turned into vampires even if he didn't bite them, and all the nearby citizens also turned into Ancient Vampires whenever he went into combat. It then spread to all my citizens within a day after a siege because they all saw or were near the 12 or so new Ancient Vampires in my fort. Then the 3-4 dwarves that didn't turn got drained and now all 80 citizens are uber Vampires which have ridiculous stats and any new migrant wave dies within minutes of coming whenever they fall asleep...

Oak reads the telegram, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

Magic Action: Continue learning woodwalking from the enchanter.

Non-Magic Action: Teach Class B basic transformation magic and expound on its uses for hiding and subterfuge.

"Class A's ahem... troubles with nature have  deepened the bond between them. I do believe their bad experiences with plant magic have fuelled their passion in other fields! As to whether this bond can be harnessed or not--I'll leave it to you folk. Being lynched by Class A is not on my bucket list."

Magic Action: Transform into my venerable-looking treant form and pay the Mosswoods a visit. Once there, humbly request to be taught one of the Arts the fairies practice over the next few months. In return, mention my connections to the human world and offer my services for any tasks they require. Ask Irene from Class A if she wants to come.

Hmm I suspect my failure was something to do with turning Mister Hubert into a tree. I did manage to fix him up... though he did complain of small twigs growing from his scalp even after.

Non-Magic Action: Send a telegram to the Arcane Association inquiring as to whether any of the examiners have explanations or theories as to why my magic goes colourfully wrong at times.

Bring Class B out onto the school fields and teach them plant magic. Buy a bunch of random seeds so they can have a little practice (and fun) doing so.

Research into a way of improving my own skill in plant magic--what is the norm, and is it possible on a reasonable timescale?

Why the disguise?
"Ahem I believe they would think better of a treant than of a human."

Mr. Greensleeves, I’m wondering if I could take Class A along with you, maybe the fey can help with drawing out the magic they have

"I'd be glad to have you join me as long--as you can convince Class A, of course. Or blow my disguise as a treant leading a flock of human orphans to brew wine."

"Well, Mister Hori, I plan on venturing into the Mosswoods this month, so you can tag along if you'd like to."

Non-Magical Action: Announce to Class A and B that I plan on going to the Mosswoods, and anybody that picks a basket of grapes can tag along. Sell the trip to them, talking of opportunities to meet kind fay spirits and find valuable magical herbs and plants which they can sell for a fortune. Add that anything they find or pick is theirs!

Magical Action: Once I (and any children and the grapes) reach the Mosswoods, transform myself into a wise, respectful-looking treant and try to find some faeries (or other creatures) to brew my grapes into wine. If  anything asks why I have a flock of human children following me around, say solemnly with my tree sap leaking that they are orphans I took pity on and took in out of kindness.

"Insane paper golems? To think that my first month here would be so... exciting."

Magic Action: Buy grape seeds and use magic to speed up their growth, focusing on yield and taste if possible.

Non-Magic Action: Research the market for wine in the town, and get into contact with local brewers. Are there any magical spirits/creatures known for brewing?

"Leave the buildings to me," Oak says with a graceful bow.

Magic Action: Use my plant path to start building the campus, prioritising the student and teacher residences.

Non-Magic Action: Familiarise myself with the students of Class A and B, giving special attention to those with talent or an exceptional background.

Oak clears his throat and lets out a dry cough. "In any case, flipping a coin sounds like a more sensible option than murder."

Oak smiles thinly before speaking in a mild but firm voice: "Pupils with courage and determination will naturally brave the unknown to join us. The hustle and bustle of civilisation only serves to distract our students from mastering magic. The Mosswood Glades have abundant resources and would serve as a fine place to build an academy."

4: Mosswood Glades

Leaf Vinehead throws a rock in the water carefully to check if the large object is a creature. If it moves, he runs back to the tree. If it doesn't, then he dives underwater to check it out.

Leaf Vinehead heads southeast again and inspects the glittering water more closely.
