This is not a troll.

I've played a ton of Fortress mode and I want to play Adventurer mode. However, it seems like the main fun of this mode would be taking quests and killing monsters. However, whenever I do this the quest monsters kill me utterly. The Wiki advises me to do tedious things like swim in circles in a puddle or throw rocks for hours in order to become effective. But I know there's people playing this and having fun. What do I *do* in adventure mode?

So far the only fun I get out of it is exploring the world. One neat thing I discovered for example was after creation a bunch of fortresses in the world and not venturing outside of them, when I explored the world in Adventurer mode I found that all the Dark Fortresses had been taken over and cleaned out by elves. There actually wasn't a lot of room for adventure in that particular world.  :)

The thing that frustrates me the most about DF is the weird inverse reward mechanism of Adventurer mode. In order to become an effective adventurer you have to do tedious, not-fun things like throw rocks for hours or swim in circles in a puddle. I'm not sure what to suggest in terms of changes to Adventurer mode, but right now it's a mode I want to enjoy but just can't because I have to engage in tedium in order to get effective enough to actually be an adventurer, or I have to wander around in circles killing wolves in random encounters because I sure as hell can't kill any quest monsters.

Two of my soldier dwarves were dispatched to kill a batman. The pursued him into a chasm. Perhaps it was too much dwarven wine.

Hilarious.

See, I'm playing this game called "Liberal Crime Squad." Within it, characters have a skill called "Cooking." Preparing meals is, as far as I can tell, not a choosable action.

See where I'm going with this here?

Would there be a drawback to recruiting a bazillion people?

When going to a site to recruit - the homeless shelter or someplace like that - is there anything to limit the amount of recruiting you can do besides your boredom? I mean, do the encounters eventually dry up?

How do you sell things you've looted from various places? The manual mentions a pawn shop but I can't find one.

Oops, reported a problem with 3.09 rather than 3.12, and it's fixed in 3.12. Disregard!  :)
