DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Talk #22: Feedback
« on: October 05, 2017, 09:24:14 am »
I'm willing to do any required work myself for there to be more of this tbh

Gears are turning

Been re-listening to the DF Talk Podcast in celebration of the eminent release and am amazed at how much of the discussion has gotten actualized over the years. Do you think there will ever be another episode? Somehow the dev log/page and FotF can never replace, for me, the freespirited charm of Toady's ramblings. Anyways thanks for making a great podcast that I still listen to all the time to this day

Creative Projects / Advice on this game I dreamt up
« on: January 06, 2017, 09:50:52 am »
Been playing DF since 2011 I think and recently discovered LCS and had that wonderful "this is the greatest game ever" moment that reminded me of my first fortress. I felt inspired and have been writing a lot about this game I would like your advice designing. It's called 20-something RPG in which you play as a listless 20-something-year-old searching for meaning in life.

2 main screens would interact with each other

"How you feel?" - Screen of Wants and Needs that function like character stats.
Friends, Family, Community, Sense of Purpose, Love(d)
<0-100%>,<0-100%>,<0-100%>,<0-100%>,<-100-0%>,<0-100%>

"What do you want to do today?" - Suggested activities based on wants/needs.
Go to class v. Skip class, Friends House, Bar crawl, Downtown

Choosing to do something that day opens up different kinds of maps where the player can interact with npc's to boost different stats at corresponding locations.

At the start of the game you would answer a little morality quiz to determine your "Label" that functions like class until you take on enough varying attributes that you ascend beyond your label. Can not achieve 100% Sense of Purpose with a label.

Label - (class) - stat - Corresponding Want or Need

Stoner - (wizard) - wisdom - Friendship
Loner - (monk) - intelligence - Sense of Purpose
F@%k up - (tank) - constitution - Family (start dropped out, live at home)
F&$kboi - (healer) - charisma - Giving Love
Fratboy/Straight Arrow - (paladin) - strength - Getting Loved (starts with GF)
Wallflower - (rogue) - dexterity - Sense of Community

I want the game to be rather game-y but primarily to function like a satirical social simulation.

My Primary question is do you think the Wants and Needs correspond with the correct stat and/or class?

Open Finder, search "df" and unzip if you haven't already, click on the "df_osx" folder and inside click the one labeled "df", if this does not work try clicking df.exe
