DF Bug Reports / Re: [0.31.01] Periodic Lockups
« on: April 08, 2010, 03:49:16 pm »
Ive actually got the same problem. both the save freeze and the mini lockups, some times as much as 10 seconds happening every 3 or 4 seconds.. or as few as half a second once a minute or so. (or anywhere else along those two spectrum)

the save freeze can last up to 3 minutes some times. AT the very least you might think about running the data save in a separate thread and allowing the rest of the game to just sit idle (yet responding) waiting for that thread to finish.

specs:
Phenom II X4 955 clocked to 3.6ghz
4GB 800Mhz DDR2
GeForce GT240 1gb
3ghz Sata 7500RPM HDD
Windows 7 Pro 64Bit

welcome! yeah OpenGL can be a bitch.. I like nvidia simply because they support openGL better than any of the others.

wow defaults to direct3d of a sort.
you have to manually change the config file to make it use openGL.

WC3 is the same, and most other games.

give a true openGL game a try.

however the exe for 40c and 40d is dwarfort.exe

DF Bug Reports / [40d11] alt tabbing and harvesting
« on: April 01, 2009, 03:29:04 pm »
so i pulled it out and gave it a try..
only things I'm noticing are problems with alt tabbing and harvesting.

Some times when i alt tab to something, and tab back, it no longer takes any input from my keyboard.. I have to tab to something under it, than back up before it will take input again.

also, cant turn the harvesting job off. I'm tired of my miners stopping to harvest plump helmets every 2 digs :P seriously, this is why i have a farmer.... who is idling.

ive got tons of ammo for each of them.. and I switch per situation.. if its single targets.. handgun.. if its alot of targets close by.. shotgun.. if its alot of targets further away.. flare gun.. i love the one shot kill..

well as to games like elite.. which was just traveller in videogame format... I love em..

though I played X3.. (it actually runs on my PC >.> though X2 doesnt) it is horribly complex and the 'depth' isnt there.. they made the economy too complex and it fell flat.. and for such a beautiful game, you would think they could get some better actor models X.x claymation is not for video games!

I played Privateer and Privateer 2.. fun games.. fairly simple interface.. There is also Vegastrike (open source space game of similar variety) but it wont be finished before we elect a black lesbian comunist woman of muslim faith. >.>

there is also the dead game Diaspora, horribly simple.. too simple though, and it fell apart to cheating... but it was addictive fun.

I'm actually trying to learn to program to make a game of a similar nature to these.. vast complex universe.. simple standard interaction and UI.. though at my rate... vegastrike will be done first :P
