I can't believe this got resurrected after a decade+. Any plans for new features?

I am still getting familiar with the code, and not all problems are solved. But yes, I have some ideas, but will start with something simple for a start.

Other Games / Goblin Camp v0.23 release

I've released new version of Goblin Camp, an open source game inspired by Dwarf Fortress

https://gitlab.com/dhyannataraj/goblin-camp/-/releases/v0.23

This release is about making graphical tiles work on SDL2.

From what I've seen from the code, graphical tiles never worked as they should, I had to do some fixes that is not related to SDL2 or even to tile size change (I've scaled default tileset, so I can see them well on my laptop). But now it is at least playable.

I also fixed some deprecation warnings that came from modern version of libtcod (underling engine for rogue-like games). Lots of work still to be done, but it is a start.

Your can also see CHANGELOG for technical detiles.

Hi!

I am looking for channel op at #dwarfortress at libera.chat, or asking a premission to became one, if none is there (which is most probable case)

I am reading #dwarffortress via https://matrix.org/ decentralised chat system (It is a cool thing, check it out). Now all libera.chat chat are bridged to matrix.

But they will change it i august, channels will not be automatically bridged, one need to take series of actions so bridging continues... One also should be op in the chat, or need the help of the current op.

So guess what I need is to get a permission to became official representative of DF in libera.chat. Or alternatively (and actually preferable) to have someone who get this permissions, who will help me to do the proper bridging...

My liberachat id is Nataraj[m]

What I need (the most easy thing) is a reply from one of the forum officials like "Yes you can be representative", then I will deal with libera.chat myself. I also can give proper rights to the persons you point me to, so it will not be only me...

Thanks in advance

Game inspired by rouge is called rougelike. How do you call game inspired by Dwarf Fortress?

dwarf-fortress-like is too long. df-like is too unclear.

Are there any conventional generalized name for such games?

BTW, I would appreciate help with following bugs:

https://gitlab.com/dhyannataraj/goblin-camp/-/issues/154 (If window is resized, cursor position on the map is calculated wrongly)
https://gitlab.com/dhyannataraj/goblin-camp/-/issues/156 (V2 tilesets are brocken (SDL2 issue and not only))

Other Games / Goblin Camp game is back
« on: August 02, 2022, 03:01:46 pm »

There was a game Goblin Camp, an open source game inspired by Dwarf Fortress, created in 2010 by Ilkka Halila. Unfortunately he abandoned project at the early stage, in a year or so.

When I like something, I always want to poke my nose inside. Inside the code, it is software. I am software developer, I can do it. Sadly I can't do it with DF, as code is not available. So I've been looking for some point to fulfill my development passion, and I found that long abandoned project.

I managed to port it run on modern Linux systems. And prepared the release: https://gitlab.com/dhyannataraj/goblin-camp/-/releases/v0.221

Game Code is licensed under GPL3 and available at https://gitlab.com/dhyannataraj/goblin-camp

The game as it is now, does not have it's own value, but it is good for those who want to play with DF-like game development.

Hope somebody will have fun hacking it.
