I was afraid of all the charts and graphs of Vic2 at first. I owned it for a year before actually trying it. I played 35 hours before I even touched the economy. That's the beauty of Vic 2 tho and why people are still playing it today. You never get the same game twice. Sometimes the world economy collapses and sometimes their is an overproduction of phones. Sometimes the communists take over and sometimes the fascists do. There are a lot of systems in Vic 2 that could be improved, but not removed. If Vic 3 has clear cut modular systems then every single playthrough will have the same strategies. Instead of the grainy nature of Vic 2 where you have to actually pay attention to things. Or don't. I won 1st place as the USA easily without understanding any of the systems.

Normally you would give them the benefit of the doubt, but this is modern Pdox. Imperator had bad mechanics, and they didn't even work right. After 2 years, I heard its somewhat playable, but its a frankenstein monster that proves Pdox will use the easy fixes first. Mission trees, limited buildings, civ flavor... whatever they cant make work they remove.
EU4 Leviathon. Stellaris. HOI4. I haven't played CK3 but I heard its CK2 casual. I don't know how there are still fanboys. I remember when criticism and suggestions were being banned left and right on their forums. They were down to like 3 posts a day, instead of hundreds. And Pdox spends more on influencers than they do QA. Pre sale review bans are the sign of a shady company.

I've been arguing with the fanboys on the Vic3 forums all day. It's amazing how many are not Vic2 fans at all. I think Leviathon broke them and they are trying to turn this into EU5. They'll probably get their wish. I have no confidence in modern Pdox. How is it their fans forget their failures so quickly.

Life Advice / Re: Anger and Pandemic-Induced Isolation
« on: May 10, 2021, 08:20:32 am »
To OP,
I just watched a video of two real life brothers getting arrested in Las Vegas for breaking a store window. The police sent them to jail separately, to await trial. They were charged with felony burglary. For a week, the older brother became so angry that his little brother got him into that mess. He knew his brother was guilty and he was in jail only for trying to protect him. When they went to trial he was so hateful he was ready to strangle his brother, but when they saw each other they just laughed and he knew he could never hate him.

So the moral of the story is don't let the hate become a monster in your head, let it go when you see your friends and family in person and see how you feel from there.

Or don't break store windows.  That is also a good moral.  Also, felony burglary is redundant: Burglary IS a felony, generally speaking.
Without watching the videos, I'm just going to guess that at least one brother wasn't white.  Totally overcharged.

Back to Vector: Glad your fish are doing well.  As for "friends", remember the old adage "you attract more flies with honey than vinegar".  AKA, you gotta be really nice and tolerant with anyone that you want to connect.  Forgive without telling them they ever did anything wrong, real or imagined, and they'll love you.  Experienced that today myself in meatworld.
Also, sounds like you've been a bit under the weather lately.  That will ruin anyone's mood, so hope you're able to get that figured out.

The brothers were both white.. They were tourists in Vegas, you must not have any experience with the justice system. They overcharge EVERYBODY. The full charges were felony burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and having tools to commit burglary (1 hammer). They were with friends when the one brother with a learning disability broke the window for fun. No burglary was committed. They were let go after about a week with just property destruction charges due to lack of evidence. The point of the story was the one brother was so angry with his brother he was going to hit him but when they saw each other they smiled and laughed. Too many people these days are fighting imaginary monsters in their head. Too much media propoganda. Its not real life. Its not your life. Look around you to the people in your life.

Life Advice / Re: Buying a Car Question
« on: May 03, 2021, 01:06:31 pm »
I hope I'm not too late!
Toyota's are good cars. Especially if you want to fix it yourself. Some bad brands I personally avoid: Ford, Chevy, Dodge, mostly anything American made. Toyota's are reliable and easy to find parts for. If you're not going to fix it yourself then a Hyundai or Subaru are good. Depending on what kind of weather conditions you'll be driving it in.

When I look for a car to buy you'll notice a lot of one brand or another in the local ads. AVOID THOSE BRANDS! They are a lot of them because no one wants to buy them. You need to look far and wide for a quality car because they will sell fast.  And yeah, avoid dealerships that push you into financing. Financing is a scam, and so is leasing. Warranties are questionable.

I have run into salesmen who take off $1000 or so if I pay cash. It does happen. They probably deal with a lot of customers who aren't credit worthy so they would rather have the money up front.

Private mechanics can be ok if the mechanic is the owner. They rely on reputation, but sometimes they aren't good mechanics. If you can, ask around for a recommended one. Sometimes a mechanic will go with you to look at cars for like $50 or so and make sure its in working condition. Maybe narrow it down to 1 or 2 they can look at so you're not paying multiple days.

Civ 5 haves conversion mods?  :o

Im a die hard Civ IV player and hated Civ V when it came out. I tried vanilla last month and it was too easy. I built every wonder as single city Venice. But the simple UI grew on me. Looked at mods and lots of people said Vox Populi was good so I gave it a try. It was more challenging in a way because someone improved the AI in a different mod. The problem is that so many years after a civ game is out, only die hard modders are left and they like to get wacky with things. There are not enough players to complain so they break formerly good mods. VP and others are so out of balance that you are guaranteed to win if you play up your civ's bonuses no matter what, and the only challenge is other players getting their win condition because of huge bonuses as well. Its too formulaic in what you have to do. No randomness, no real difficulty, games are over by medieval era. So many idiots bragging they beat it on deity level when they only play a war civ against 8 other peace civs. Thats not an accomplishment.
I always play max map, max civs. Civ IV had the best stories.

I cant find anything else to play now.

I got Stellar Tactics, Space Haven and Civ 5 in the summer sale. So far I am disappointed in both. Tactics is extremely light on tactics. Its not well done at ALL. I have played better 10 year old tactical rpgs. And Space Haven is so far just one big demo. Feels like DF-9 all over again.
Tried civ 5 with the conversion mods and they are badly balanced. Finding something reasonable seems impossible, its not a bad game.

There is fun somewhere to be found in this game if its polished up some more. The funny thing is that the dev could drastically change the TYPE of game it is very easily. Im not exactly sure what it is yet. The more it goes towards Emperor of the Fading Suns, the more I like it. But in that game you could capture actual supply UNITS. Then not only capture them, but have to get them back to your base before the enemy recaptured them. There needs to be more capture points than just the cities. Ive had too many wars where neither of us could push into each others lands.

I hope the dev knows about similar games from the past. Im not subscribed to their forum, yet.

Supreme ruler solves this problem with supply trucks and villages add to the logistical supply if connected by road. If navies and planes are added to the game they can be used to deliver supplies as well. Biological planets should have some scavenging value. Minors break the game because they dont use supply. They should either use supply or use units that dont need supply so you arent screwed when you inherit them.

11
Restricting logistics even more is the wrong direction to go. After so many hours I realized its a logistics puzzle, not a wargame. Which I dont mind, but major factions should have access to 'raider' troops that use barely any logistics. Right now you can declare war, but nothing happens until you build that road/rail right up to their door. Even then you better have the economy to get a few tanks to their capital. Free towns should be more valuable.

Games end too soon for any interesting tactics to take place. You can barely supply a front line, nevermind an encirclement action.
Maybe the option of playing a broken down world where there are random supply depots and run down bases scattered across the map, to jumpstart wars.

12
It def needs a lot of polish. Maybe the dev should make free towns produce their own logistics points that get added to a connected road line, just like in Supreme Ruler.

13
All in all its a great game. The developer said he had to take some short cuts on some things but its still unique. He's still working on adding things. I would willingly pay for an expansion pack or a part 2. More options, an air force and a navy would be great. It already does army combat better than anything else Ive ever played in 20 years.

14
Its too realistic. I was hoping for a game where communists and capitalists waged wars throughout the world. It doesnt make sense to play the mod unless you play as USA or USSR. Anything else and you are just going down a decision tree. War is hands off, economy is hands off. You literally wait until you have millions to invest in some program or other. Kind of boring.

15
Odds are unreliable. I have won on 1:1 odds when they are surrounded, I have arty and they dont, or some other hard hitting unit. I guess it makes sense that a city is heavily fortified. I should of taken their peace offer. I love the AI in this game. It makes logical decisions. I was afraid that the majors would just steamroll me when they found me. If Im bigger then they try to make peace.

I had a game yesterday where I made peace and inherited every minor except arachs and AI. So I got slavers, raiders and farmers. Its super annoying that minors dont need resources because my armies increased by 6 times but my food didnt. Desert worlds seam easiest. If you get the right neighbors you can win.
I played an earth world and was wrecked by farmers. I didnt know they would take half my territory and towns. Never happened before. Also, when the slavers got me down to a single hex, my economy was doing fine.

I wish the advanced tech start didnt give you bigger territory. Its hard to defend.
