Glad to see you're still working on this. It's definitely my favorite project of yours!

Furthermore, my bet for this round. 50 gold on Boofy.

As a fellow representative of rodent kind, I am obligated to bet 40 gold on Knifin' Around.

NAME: Skitterleap

RACE: Rat woman (260 points)

EQUIPMENT:
Robe, sandals (0?)

SKILLS:
Proficient Fighter (45)
Competent Striker (24)
Talented Kicker (84)
Competent Dodger (30)

HARROWING BACKSTORY:
Disowned by her (very large) family for her eccentric lifestyle of challenging random strangers to mortal duels, Skitterleap honed her skills in the wild and lived off the land. She has come to the arena to hone her martial arts in the only environment one truly can. The potential to return to her warrens a champion justified in dispensing "told-you-so's" is just a bonus.

General Discussion / Re: LGBTQ+ Thread
« on: January 02, 2023, 09:01:26 am »
hello thread! i'm a transfem who just barely made it out of the Deep South thanks to some pals across the country. :')
i haven't already celebrated that with enough people so i'm posting here!
i've almost finalized all the moving related junk you run into in the US, including getting on the state's medicaid (and then i'll be setting up with an LGBTQ-positive nonprofit clinic)
transitioning even "just" socially has felt pretty rewarding on its own, i think i'm ok seeing myself as kinda butch? but i feel much freer to experiment and find what i'm comfortable with now that i'm in a safer and more left-leaning area of the country.

I'm definitely on the "let him pick his ball and run with it" side, too. He's a cogent speaker no matter what the topic is.
Quote
something about design by accretion.
is also a pretty good idea. DF has had an interesting development history.

I, for one, am tired of [the meme frog.] I don't think he's terribly funny, except maybe in an ironic "so unfunny you can't help but laugh at its expense" way. There is an undeniable obsession with it shown by grifters, groypers, and other generally unpleasant individuals on the right. There's a reason they use it. I reckon it's kind of like that saying about whiskey and bourbon. Not all whiskey is bourbon, but all bourbon is whiskey. Not everyone who posts [the funny meme frog] is fash, but basically every fash ever is going to post them at some point.

At the end of the day, man, it's just one corner of the internet you can't post frogs on. You can already do that basically everywhere else. If it's with the goal of providing a safer, more inclusive space for everyone, can't you find it in your heart to just move on?

Wonderful news. Glad to see progress is unimpeded. Very proud for Putnam. It is a little strange that Toady actually ended up accepting another programmer, but if anyone deserves it, it's someone as prolific and knowledgable as Putnam. Cheers, everyone!

another thing: i noticed that there really aren't any semi/megabeasts to fill the void left by the vanilla ones (apart from biodeities), any plans or ideas for those? i don't think it'd be dissonant to have some kind of nanite-laden subhuman amalgam(s) to jeopardize bunkers.

I love this mod. Lore's neat. Especially love how you've tweaked the cavern layers and whatnot recently to bring things more in line. I've always been fascinated by the idea of a sort of "trash planet" akin to those "islands" made of plastic bags in the ocean : P
I've started and lost three Venusian bunkers in the past day and a half, mostly from rust-related mistakes (though the last one was a loyalty cascade started in a tavern. I could've sworn those were supposed to be gone now.)
It takes some real fiddlin' to embody certain concepts in DF. Big ups!

Would you consider either mode to be more "complete" as an experience in this setting than the other? Either seems good to me, but there are a few odd spots that rub me wrong in the Fortress implementation. Combat drones are helpful at times, but it doesn't seem possible to assign them to squads or even have them bodyguard an individual? Is that something relating to how they can't be trainable, else civs might start making "hunting combat drones" or "war combat drones" (humorous tautology)? I understand why biochargers and the semi-autonomous meat-suits (their names escape me right now) can't be used to their full extent as mounts aren't really an option for the player in Fortress mode at present. Anything that could be done about that?
