Lanceheat. I'm having tons of fun making outlandish rooms and drowning antmen!
If anyone's interested in the pattern for that fractal mushroom design, let me know and I can post a better picture. It's not space efficient, but my dwarves value ambition over practicality.
Last night I deleted and reinstalled the game, just in case it was some of my customization. With default world creation & settings, it's noticeably slow with the initial seven dwarves.
Before the reinstall, it was slow with weather off, sound off, graphic refresh capped to 15, priority high. And this was embarking with seven dwarves in a 2x2 area in a pocket region!
Here are my system specs:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
I'm currently running on an iMac with a noticeable speed drop from a slightly better PC. I can't populate my fortresses with war dogs, and am considering an pet-killing room in my current fortress.
Speaking as a Dwarf Fortress fan and a video game programmer, I'll extend an offer to casually help with optimization if needed. The first question being: Toady, have you used a profiler on DF?
