White 2's my favorite game in the franchise, so I'd recommend the sequels. I don't think B/W are bad games though, especially not compared to recent ones. So, both or B2/W2.

This is the point of raids and the like. To throw a wrench in your story, to create conflict and loss, and to pressure you to pursue a victory condition.

Good post, makes sense.

Mentioning victory conditions gets the gears in my head turning, I think they're a good example of my frustration with Rimworld as well. The original win conditions are "build a ship at home, people show up and try to burn your ship down" and "walk half way across the planet to a ship, people show up and try to burn your ship down". I just kinda wish walking half way across the planet was the challenge, and not the end where the people show up to burn down your ship.

It just feels like all of Rimworld's stories inevitably feature "people show up and try to burn down your stuff" at some point... or really near constantly. It's fine, a game needs a focus and Rimworld's focus is base defense, I just kinda wish it wasn't.

The form of your colony has a role in how clean it is, too. One large structure is pretty easy to keep clean. A scattered collection of buildings sited on a beach is never clean. Ever.

Anyway, my biggest complaint about Rimworld, and I've probably already posted it in here at one point, is how tower defense-y it feels. It's definitely gotten better over the years, but I kinda wonder what the game would look like if the primary challenge wasn't "people show up outside your base and try to burn it down."

Yes, it's a current patch thing, not a 3.8 thing. It both added the trait that causes leaders not to count towards your leader cap, and also buffed the value of the resources from nothing traits.

It takes less pops to get 8 unity than 32 food, so it's pretty much worth it. Of course, it's more work than I'm willing to bother with, but it's very much a thing you can do.

... you're not going to be able to completely ignore farming by buying a bunch of farmer scientists.

This is actually a totally viable strategy in current patch, thanks to the "leader doesn't count towards leader cap until level 4" trait. You can hire just a ton of those dudes and have each one churn out 32 food for you, without affecting your 8-or-so highly trained council leaders. Then have your farmers do something else more productive.

This expansion is so overwhelmingly busted.

My all-grass team fared so poorly at the E4 that I eventually decided eff it, and just cheesed it by feeding all the rare candies I had to my cat and using X attacks.

As for shinies, I spent forever running around looking for Eevees and eventually conceded defeat and asked the internet where they were, went to the spot where one spawns and caught it. Saved, turned it off for the night, and the next day when I loaded in another one had spawned, and it was shiny. That was unexpected.

The game has 70 pairs of socks but only one jacket.

Anyway, I mustered up the energy to finish the game yesterday. The start of the game is great, the end of the game is pretty good too, but the middle is just awful. I reached the point where it's like "well I've got nothing else to do but fast travel to all of the remaining bosses" and that's more of a chore than something fun. For an open world game, there just really doesn't seem like much to do in the open world.

I don't know how I feel about the game. There's plenty of stuff I liked, Iono's gym is great, Larry works two jobs, watching Skiddo run up to you and jump around is adorable... but there's also so much stuff that's just... ugh.

lol...

I feel like most people who play Nex would never see that happen because they (myself included) stuff the game with so many faction mods that a Heg/LC alliance is still small in the grand scheme of things.

I like terraforming as a concept, but I think in game it usually boils down to "this terrain is the best, put it everywhere" which seems kinda underwhelming.

I got to Drezen and the game softlocked, so that's neat. The guards gave up halfway through battering down the final gate, but since they started battering down the gate you can no longer open it with the lever.

I guess I'm just stuck waiting for a patch now, and really hoping it's on the list of fixes...

Yes, it's a sword saint magus.

Cat's Grace and Fox's Cunning require +4 items to obsolete, I have not come across any of those at this point in the game, so they're not obsolete for me yet.

Same thing with Mage Armor. Also my current bracers give +1 luck bonus to AC, so I'd either have to find a new source of that or get some +5 bracers to obsolete this buff.

Shield is good, yes.

Doesn't Mirror Image stack with Displacement? Anyway, mirror image is 1 minute/level, displacement just 1 round/level, so I've got mirror image on just in general and save displacement for especially challenging fights.

Reduce person is great, +2 AC and attack for -1 damage.

Heroism, well I don't have a bard so this is my source of morale bonuses at the moment.

Barkskin and Shield of Faith get better with caster levels, so finding rings and amulets to obsolete these is tricky but possible.

With my current equipment, I've still pretty much got 9 buffs. I could get down to 4 with better equipment, but I'd have to get it first.

Admittedly my character is rather designed around buffing the hell out of everything, but it's not like all my other party members are perfectly fine with no buffs. Even if I had a different main character, there'd still be a lot of buffing going on. Still bothers me a lot less than Protective Luck though.

I've got like 9? buffs with durations of at least 1 minute/level to put on my main character before any big, tough battle. Not to mention the 1 round/level stuff, but those are things you decide to use rather than just have on in general. I'm also probably missing a few buffs worth having, as well...

That doesn't bother me nearly as much as trying to get Camella to use Protective Luck on my guy every friggin' round though -- I'd love if that could be autocast way more than any buff queue.

14
Wrath sure feels like it has a lot more "you expect me to win this at level 3?" fights than Kingmaker did. Like I ran into a succubus that my strongest character -- when buffed -- could hit like 15% of the time, and everyone else only could on a 20... that was kind of an experience. I haven't even completed the first chapter yet and I'm already finding the game a bit exhausting to play.

You can prevent commissions from causing surprise shifts in relations by just getting a pirate commission. Then everyone will hate you, forever.
