DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Trying to embark without saltwater
« on: November 21, 2023, 01:59:24 am »
I'm trying to play the Steam version of the game. It has been awhile since I last played and am just trying to get a nice easy start. Searching embark locations, there doesn't seem to be a way to filter out saltwater, and hovering over the zones doesn't show saltwater or not (except sometimes in the biome name, like Saltwater Marsh). Is there a way to see if an area has saltwater or not and is there a way to filter out the saltwater when searching embark locations?

I've just started back up with Dwarf Fortress after a number of years away, and grabbed the lnp for PC, and I wanted to say that Soundsense is great!  Thanks!

The achievements are fun, but it looks like the string for masterpiece items has changed, so "Craftsdwarf" no longer triggers.  Changing the logPattern to "(.+) has created a masterpiece (.+)!" seems to fix it.

Okay, how does it work exactly? Anyone up to give a brief explanation how to use it?

If it really works on .18, then Jifodus has just made one happy player.

You run the exe and it will disable the warm / wet stone messages and just have your dwarf keep digging.  Run it again to re-enable the messages.

Just noticed that the link is down.  I grabbed it while it was still available, so you can grab it http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8001374/justdigitout.zip.

Is there a way to make this work for 31.18?

What worked for me, based on what was recommended in the screenshot thread, was to copy the "Memory.xml" file from DFHack over the 2.2 Slate version of Stonesense.

Dig and build directions:  how can I know where my dwarf will stand and in which order he will dig / build?  I couldn't find it on the wiki, yet I swear I found it there at one point in the past.

That should be adequate. Either you've found a bug, OR two dwarves with very simiar/identical names have died on your map.

Only two dwarves have died total on my map, so it must be a bug.  Could someone direct me to the instructions on how to report it?

I have a forlorn spirit of my long dead dwarf haunting my fortress, but I have him in a coffin and he's been in it for ages already.  What would make him suddenly appear?

did you make and engrave a slab for him?

I did not.  From the details I could gather, you only need a coffin or a memorial slab, but not both.  Am I incorrect?

Most appreciated!  Thanks!

Jifodus, are there any plans to update this?
I saw a recent post in the Nano Fortress thread that you were looking into fixing that...

1.Go to the 'Data' folder
2.Go to the 'Init' folder
3.Open the 'Announcements' file
4.Look for these:
[DIG_CANCEL_WARM:A_D:D_D:P:R]
[DIG_CANCEL_DAMP:A_D:D_D:P:R]
5.Remove 'P:R' like so:
[DIG_CANCEL_WARM:A_D:D_D]
[DIG_CANCEL_DAMP:A_D:D_D]

Or just remove the lines all together, either or works. It still undesignates though.

But, the undesignate is my biggest issue.  Is there any thought on updating this?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Salt water not becoming pure after screw pump
« on: September 23, 2009, 06:56:27 pm »
There are some experiments that I am going to try.  Every part of the tunnel and cistern are dwarven-made, including the two square under the pump.  But, there is one square next to the pump where an assembly is that isn't on a floor and just on the ground.  I think I will take down the assembly and then place the floor under and replace the assembly.

If that doesn't work, I might try taking down a couple pieces of the tunnel and rebuilding them to see if it makes a difference.

If neither work, it might just be that I need to pump it up another level.  I will experiment with that if need be.

I'll report back with my findings.

It suddenly occurred to me that maybe sea level can be determined by the level at which water is flowing naturally on your map... I left out a couple of details about my water works.  I pump water out of a brook, into a tunnel that drops one level.  Then, the cistern sucks the water out of the same level as the brook is on.  Although, if it is just level 99 is the problem, I might try pumping up a layer or two to test.

It is level 99 that I am building it on.  Is sea level 0?  Or, how can I tell what sea level is?

I don't quite understand.  I built a floor and walls to my cistern.  But, it can seep through them somehow?  It is way, way underground.  Is that a problem?
