Other Games / Re: RimWorld - basically the sci-fi Dwarf Fortress

I think there should be a huge morale boost after obvious victory.
I hate it when I winning pretty hard battle with almost no casualties and after that some of my men deserting due to low morale and things like "witnessing a death" or "observed a corpse". They win and they are sad. What a nonsence. They actually should be extatic, all pumped up with adrenaline and happy to stay alive. Things like ugly environment, shared room or food related issues should be totally outweighed by the fact of victory at least for a day or so.
Another story is technical victory but with a lot of casualties. There I can understand some drop of morale. But still delayed for some time due to "happy to stay alive" factor.

Yep, mountain is a good idea.
Survived several sieges already because of it.

Another great idea, as it turns out, is to keep only half of troops on mortars and mess with pirates with the rest of my team.

Question: does the "shooting" skill affect the mortar's accuracy?

Siege event is OP or am i doing something wrong?..

I am new in RimWorld. Now playing my third game. And looks like third time i will be annihilated by pirate's siege. I'm not saying that they unbeatable, nor i fear the challenge, but it seems alot like lottery where random decides everything. If siege event happens early on then i have no mortars and forced to deal with them in close combat, which is troublesome because they always outnumber my troops 2 to 1 and has better weapon. If i am ready and have mortars for every colonist, then i can bombard pirate's base relatively sucessful but still, couple of good shots from them can cripple me, and i can easily miss every single shot. Best case scenario is when i get lucky with my mortars and can clear some parts of their base quickly, then finish with my troops. But I still take alot of damage and next pirate raid, which can happen very soon after the siege, will probably finish me.

To the developer(s): i would like to have more control in this situation and a chance to actually survive the event if i catch it early in game. For example some defensive anti-mortar turrets or shield dome generators.

To everybody else: any suggestions about how to better prepare and survive the siege?

DF Modding / Re: Detailed wall/floor tiles...

Well, after all, to make black background for engraved stone I simply paint the main tile background black.
And to make them look little different after engraving I add some magenta (which is white after detailing but black before it).
This is how it looks now:

In my case it looks like the same wall only with white background. Which is ugly.
1. Can I change background color to black?
2. Can I change base color of engraved wall?

...
GreyMario, it's kinda MODification I try to make. So...

DF Modding / Detailed wall/floor tiles...

I like smoothed wall tiles in my own tileset, and I really annoyed by original detailed wall/floor tiles. It looks kinda messy and chaotic to me. Is there any way to change their appearance to yellow smoothed wall tiles and red smoothed floor tiles?

Last days it was Blackmore's Night.

DF Gameplay Questions / Floors...

Maybe there is a way to create floors for selected zone (as it is in designation menu) and not one by one tile?
Now I make it thru b>c>f menu and then pick a material. And if material placed on 2-3 page it bring a LOTS of scrolling and button pushing which is very annoying.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bins question...
« on: April 18, 2008, 04:12:00 am »
greggbert, I don't know why, but this way didn't work. I got two bins with highquality goods and some artifacts with them. This bins lie just on the ground (not in pile) and nobody care about it. Several tiles next to them I create a stockpile specifically for this kind of items. Dwarfs stock there all items which was lied on the ground and leave all the bins. And I can't dump/claim artifacts to get rid of this bins.

Grebo, I think bin will be dumped with all items inside.
Hague, so I need to dump needed items and then reclaim? Seems like solution.

Of course. But loaded bins STILL be stored in this stockpile and dwarfs can't (or won't  :)) unload them.

Some of my stockpiles contain several items stored in bins. But now I want them to lie openly on the floor. How can I do this (unload bins I mean)?

Make one dwarf of your "seven" to be a farmer ONLY.
One more to be a cook/brewer ONLY.
And create ONLY underground farms NEAR the food stockpiles.
This should be enough for good start.

Some extra spawns also can be helpful in the beginning.

Kagus, Proteus, yes, it really was Wooden Weapon Rack   :)
But what about wooden (oaken, birchen, highwood) swords and spears? I got some of them in stockpile.

GRead, тhis is great idea! Thanks.
