DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Armor and Danger Rooms
« on: December 31, 2011, 06:25:38 pm »
Yep spikes seemed to be a big part of the problem, changed to spears and aside from some bruising haven't run into any problems so far. Its odd though, I swore a number of versions ago that wooden spikes were just as safe but I guess not.

I'll give training spears a try.. and in fortresses before I have had huge danger rooms training for years without any serious injuries.. the very occasional hit to the foot or something that needed sealing up but never swiss cheese by the 2nd or 3rd round of being hit.

DF Gameplay Questions / Armor and Danger Rooms
« on: December 30, 2011, 09:52:33 pm »
I have been trying to train up my military, the easiest way to do this is with a danger room, I normally use a basic armor set (with leather, cloth, etc) until I make metal armor. However the oddest thing is that robes are foreign items in my current fortress, something I have never run into it and it is neccesary to have that amount of cover to avoid turning my training dwarves into swiss cheese.

Any armor set suggestions (made out of cloth, leather,etc.. not metal) that can give me the kind of protection I need for a danger room without using robes?

Possibly falling down stairs? Have had that happen and not get an announcement even with serious injuries.

I like multiple smaller clinics nearer to areas where danger is more likely to happen including one in my commons area (bedrooms, etc) personally.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Soap: An Impossible Task
« on: April 25, 2011, 04:13:34 pm »
You need lye and tallow. However sometimes embarking or buying lye is bugged so to make your own lye you need ash (from burning trees), a free bucket for the lye finished product and I think a barrel. Tallow is just processed fat so thats usually not a problem if your Kitchen is doing its job when animals are slaughtered. Soap can be a pain until you get the right stockpiles and productions in place, afterwards its pretty easy as long as you keep with the all the materials you need.

DF Modding / Re: Removing diacritics from a saved game
« on: April 13, 2011, 05:46:25 pm »
hermano's accent remover.

It does remove the accents from the .txt files that are in the objects folder, since I opened them to check. I updated all of the txt files for all the save files just in case, as well as the default ones outside of the save folder. Yet it still appears otherwise. Either I'm missing some files or it only uses those files for generation and stores the actual generated names elsewhere.

DF Modding / Removing diacritics from a saved game

I found the accent remover utility which updates the language files to remove diacritics, however when the saved file is loaded up it is still using diacritics.

Any ideas?

DF Modding / Re: [0.31.21] Mayday's DFG - I am the mayday, it's me

Is there any way to fix a saved game with the "weird character" problem?

I have read about generating with DFG but I really don't want to lose my fortress to eliminate the "weird character" problem.

Does genocide completely wipe out the race for the entire world, not just the map?

I.E will hitting genocide on a goblin completely eliminate the possibility of goblin ambushes/sieges?

And if so, can it be reversed *whistles innocently*?

Honestly I have had tons of spirals myself over things that made no sense.

Best to do if you can is to keep them as happy as you can as early as you can so that any mood drops are absorbed by the fact they are already happy plus. Good quality prepared meals and booze for starters.

DF Gameplay Questions / naming squads

Is there a way to pick my own names for squads, either conventionally or through some kind of modding?
