This sounds more like it could be a mod rather than a core addition.

DF Modding / Re: custom workshop shifting during construction
« on: January 08, 2023, 03:18:10 pm »
The issue is your work location; If it's set to the center, when you place the workshop it will be placed in the center, however, if you have the work location off by 1 on the y axis, you'll see the building, when placed, off by 1 on the y axis.

If you set the work location to 3:1 in this case, you'll see no shift when placed.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Steam version wagon accessibility?

Could be completely wrong, but I was having this same issue and thought it was a bridge; Nope, it was the line of cage traps on one end of the bridge that was causing the wagons to pass by.

DF Suggestions / Re: Softer beatings

Is murder a hammering or just imprisonment? I'll be very annoyed if not making shell crafts after fish go extinct is death while a vampire who's killed 8 dwarfs only gets time served and goes right back to draining dorfs as soon as he's out.

Hammering, although vampires tend to survive that.

Pretty sure if the hammering knocks their teeth out they don't bite anymore.

Getting beaten with a hammer sounds like a harsh punishment. Maybe it should only be applied in cases of expected death sentence - how about adding whiping or some form of ducking of backers (which seems quite fitting for not meeting production goals) as punishment. Medieval times were quite ingenious when it comes to punishment.

Edit: I think public shaming was also quite often used. Could have a nice impact on social dynamics in the fort. And punishment might also become an event that other dwarves want to watch.

They don't use their weapons when they do the beatings. They are using fists, wrestling and biting. The problem is when you have Officer Urist McSteelGuns doing the beatings, they have a tendency to beat skulls through brains or break backs which IS a death sentence. When they get a hammering, that's a different story.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Steam: How can I get rid of these bodies?
« on: December 20, 2022, 09:39:32 pm »
How do I get my dwarves to take the body to the garbage zone?
Mark them for dumping. Garbage can icon, center toolbar on the bottom, right most button on that toolbar.

Does it actually have to be built over a pit?
No, BUT, if they dump something into magma and it's big, like a troll corpse, there will be a splash and magma mist will form which is always !!FUN!!

The zone tool's description makes it sound like the garbage zones I've placed on the floor should still work.
They do, but you'll have to wait for them to decompose completely.

if the garbage zone has to be a pit, am I supposed to mark the zone over the empty space, or on the floor at the bottom?
If the garbage zone is on the side of a pit, they will throw it off the edge and down into whatever is below. If it's magma and you're throwing a corpse down there, it will burn up pretty quickly and then you don't have to look at it anymore.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Steam: Dealing with old clothing
« on: December 20, 2022, 06:35:56 pm »
Do they replace the clothing automatically when you make replacements? I having a problem right now with dwarves becoming increasingly unhappy. Trying to figure out why.

Yes! And if they have a room they will go store their old clothing there, otherwise they just drop it where they changed clothes. They will still "own" old clothes though, which is the problem. An object that is "owned" can't be dumped.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: (Steam) New Fort Limits?

I'm finding that even at larger populations (Well over 200), that the game FPS is sitting between 30-50 depending on what's happening. Also finding that setting pathfinding priorities is helping a lot with that while flowing water is still killing it somewhat.

I understand having a guard unit made of buff, lean, mean, forgotten beast killing machines might not be the best idea especially when it comes to Dwarven Justice, but I'm finding that EVERY time they perform a beating on a civilian they are breaking a back, bashing a skull through a brain or ripping out spines, maybe have it so that when a civilian goes unconscious the guard stop the beating or they beat them a little more...softly? I'm aware the wiki article already suggests not having duked out town guard but...still a suggestion.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Steam: Dealing with old clothing

Are old clothes the ones with an x in front of the name? Will the dwarves ever take them off or do they only take them off when they have a replacement? A lot of my dwarves are still wearing old clothing.

Yes. The 'x' indicates that it's worn out. Dorfs don't like wearing worn out clothing and armor.

I've found that if you designate the owned clothing for dumping, it works the same way, losing its ownwe after a few days. You don't have to first forbid and then dump.

Yea, I think you're right. I did notice that they were eventually being dumped but i assumed it was the owner doing the dumping.

Might as well use that oppurtunity and sell those old clothes to the Dwarven trader or give them to them for free once they have no mroe ownership.

This is true, but my current world situation is slightly fucked. My civilization was wiped out after everyone went to war with us over a copper goblet.

Hey, for anyone else dealing with the clothes without DFHack being updated yet...
I can't recall where I read it, but if you forbid the clothing for a little while it will eventually lose it's owner and can then be dumped. This works and it takes at least a few in-game days.

So, I got a migrant who also happens to be a necromancer. I noticed this shortly before they started raising the dead. Now my corpse stockpile is killing children and pets, and they're rising as zombies to kill more.
How am I meant to deal with this, other than spotting this ahead of time and walling the dwarf in question into their bedroom?

He'll do it if there's a dead body around and he's scared.

So you need to keep him away from dead stuff and scary stuff. Or wall him in or kill him.

I've got one as well. I had him locked away, but I ended up liking him. So I let him have his freedom and instead I make an effort to crush all corpses under a drawbridge in the hope that I get lucky and he never gets upset in the location with a dead body.

He can be usefull I guess for invasions. Like if you kept a bunch of corpses at a strategic place and had him locked in there, you could unlock the door if there's an attack - he should then exit the room and freak out and animate the bodies. Which is nice if nobody else is around except invaders and him.

He can also reanimate dead dwarves as intelligent undead, which then become citizens like they were when they're alive. I haven't used that but seems like a good thing to do if a high skilled dwarf dies.

I could be wrong, but it seems like they will raise friendly dwarves regardless of if they are afraid. Either that or they were being chased by something and my legendary clothier just got a lucky, second chance.

If they are from your own population you should build a tomb with a coffin in it so they can be buried. If they're goblins or elves, just throw them in the garbage pit...preferably one that has a pool of magma below so you can dispose of them properly.
