I'm glad I found this post, since I was really confused when I captured several kobold thieves in my cage traps.  Apparently they would be spotted near the trade depot at the entrance to my fort, which is surrounded by traps (mostly to catch thieving gorramn monkeys and make rhesus macaque farms).  My baby wrasslin' army would then proceed to punch their kobold lights out right over a trap.  So I probably have a number of bloody, wounded kobolds in my animal stockpile.

Hey, if a dwarf is fond of lizards, will they enjoy a kobold zoo?  :3

I really wish we could enslave them for cheap manual labor.  But then the dorfs would be no better than scummy gobbos.  Then again, considering how well their civilizations get along these days...

I'm very sure that he means on the embark screen, since I ran into the same 'issue'.  It broke my heart.  Guess I'll just have to force a dorf into the water for some early fortress fishin'.

Nope, I couldn't travel while swimming.  It told me so!  :(

I've been Dorfortan' it for several months now, but it has only been in the past few days that I have tried my hand at adventure mode.  I've got a jillion maps with fortresses chock full of shiny adamantine goodies, so of course I sent one of my first adventurers, Inod Carnalglove, to stake some claims.  She's going about being a total badass with her finely crafted adamantine sword - you know, tripping into giant cave spiders and ripping them apart, lopping off cyclop heads, et cetera - when I alt-jump into a river, thinking I'll be able to simply hop out later on.

Not so much, I find.  Instead I'm left swimming in an attempt to find an actual riverbank, eating and drinking and decimating the sea lamprey population until Miss Carnalglove is drowsy.  Wondering how she'll hold up, I put her to sleep.  She wakes up in an entirely different section of river - and she wakes up THIRSTY.  Double misfortune befalls, as this river is connected to an ocean and I have yet to find a bank.  If only Kevin Costner were around with his piss-filtering contraption, perhaps she could have toughed it out.  :<

Alas, Inod Carnalglove and her precious +Adamantine Short Sword+ are lost to the depths, cursed to be nibbled upon by fishies for all time.

Okay, so maybe this isn't epic fail.  Maybe this is epic dumb newbie.  Such is life!
