DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Dwarven Cruise ship - a challenge

I'll give it a shot, the entire construction is wood or just the hull? I'm assuming that incidental pieces of metal or stonework would be acceptable yeah?

DF Suggestions / Re: Meeting With Liasons and Diplomats
« on: October 16, 2008, 02:18:41 pm »
I like the idea, it really pisses me off how hard it is for a meeting to be attended. Once you take off all the hauling jobs you will suddenly be hit with trade good movement and pulling levers and what not. There is no way that the dwarf would make his own diplomat wait so that they can install a bed on the lowliest peasant's room. What gets me is that the liaison comes shortly after the turn of the season, smack dab in the time that the dwarves want to go to bed. So he is greeted then forced to wait for the week or so that goes by before my liaison wakes. Definitely should be able to pawn off the responsibility on touring the liaison around on a lesser noble if taking a nap is that important.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Will Dungeon Master be Replaced if Lost ?
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:35:18 am »
Your dungeon master is always going to like dragon bone. They seem to come in with consistent love for precious metals and parts of megabeasts. I think it is one of the things that makes him a dungeon master rather than just a greedy dwarf

DF Suggestions / Re: Doors and Fluids

Wouldn't one be able to put 2 doors die by side with this one? The first door all but stops the flow and the second one has very little to contend with so what gets through might evaporate before anything else comes out?

DF Suggestions / Re: Chunks, Chunks, marvalous Chunks!

Methinks it should be based say on a butchery skill those that you get from a corpse. You're dabbling guy only manages to hack away 1/4, 1/3 of the usable meat on a corpse leaving everything else as chunks, where a very skilled butcher can utilize nearly every bit of meat. But those from combat I prefer to think of as more of a thin red paste than anything else

Maybe I'm an idiot, but "road value?"

I'm not sure if there are still the "house XX" dwarf nobles kicking around somewhere but if they were back for any manufacturing skill you couldn't set up a guildhall until you had the representative. Say your house weaver rep comes and demands a place for him and his weaver buddies to chill and not have to interact with other dwarves who aren't in the weaving know. It would work as a profession based guildhall maybe, or a members only club that you can assign skill level or specific dwarves to

DF Suggestions / Re: Work Related Injuries
« on: October 02, 2008, 10:39:05 am »
what if it had to do with what the workshop was made out of? Raw stone is more dangerous than raw metal is more dangerous than stone blocks or metal blocks instead of it just being an entirely cosmetic thing. Though it might put an end to making a smelter out of blocks of soap

DF Suggestions / Re: Item Creation Fixes
« on: October 02, 2008, 10:35:13 am »
The making crappier items is already somewhat there if you limit the max skill of a workshop, but from the other end why not have a minimum acceptable quality from the workshop, so that any item that would be produced of say less than exceptional would automatically be dumped. I'm for toning down the quality levels myself, really your dabbler should only be able to make a barely usable item part of the time the rest of it is actually just a waste of materials... I think the *item* level should be the average. Though for this to really work the items need to degrade with usage, so a XXmugXX made by a dabbler gets one use before it is trash where a masterwork bed can be slept in almost forever
