Like it says on the tin.

Drop the magma on them from a giant overhead pan, using a large retracting drawbridge to drop it.

I thought Giant Elephants WERE the best weapon?

4
If it was a deep pit, he would have gotten a notification that it was discovered.

I got only two notifications : one referring to "an unusual gem-studded volcanic wall", and one announcing the discovery of Adamantine.

Seems a bit tall.

It's not very wide, either. It mostly fits on a single screen.

So in 3-D the cavern is shaped almost like a missile silo.

6
Just to mention a few benchmarks:

Ground-level in my location is at level +49.

The roof of the huge underground cavern is at level -14 (so... 63 levels below ground level).

The bottom of the huge cavern (filled with water, at that point) is at level -95.

7
Is this usual?

It's not the Circus. I think it's the second and third cavern layers, fused together.

Also, there's a big spike of obsidian studded with precious gems sticking up into that huge cavern.

I've heard a few rumors about these puppies. Do not open 'til Armokmass.

How does one maximize the availability of Adamantine in World Gen?

I was once told that Dwarves of the same labor marry each other.  In other words Farmers marry Farmers and such.  I could be wrong.

With only seven dwarves to run a whole fort, there ARE no specialists.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How to encourage marriage and births?

I'm playing a "Last Seven Dwarves in the World" fortress. v47.05, no mods.

I got a fairly encouraging start: four females (one of them bisexual) and three males (also one of them bisexual). I've done the usual things... after digging in, setting up farms and producing lots of booze and prepared meals plus setting up a small clothing industry to prevent a collapse of morale, I've given them several months off duty to socialize and hopefully to bond. I've moved them into double-bed rooms in order to improve the odds of dwarven hanky-panky.

Any other suggestions?

I'm looking for an embark suitable for a "Last Seven Dwarves in the World" run.

No Dwarven civs. Good minerals.

Other than that... I'm flexible.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm planning to start a game with zero immigration. I'll be limited to my seven starting dwarves plus any children born on-map.

Does anyone have any advice on this? Starting settings? Starting skills? Essential equipment? Priorities?

Should I just seal myself in and avoid any contact with the surface world? Ignore the caravans? Will I even get any caravans?

Tested.

No, pumps do not support adjacent construction.

14
The output end of a screw pump is treated in some respects as a solid wall.

Does it support adjacent constructions? Could you build an otherwise unsupported floor adjacent and one level higher?

Thanks for all the replies so far.

To clarify, I am using the DF interface, not Dwarf Therapist, to manage my squads and their equipment. I use Dwarf Therapist for info only. I have been using a custom uniform, with "replace clothing" and "wear it even when off-duty", but have not had the "exact matches" flag set.

I'll try that.

Here's the uniform I've been using (replace clothing):

For melee dwarves:

cloth shirt
metal chain mail shirt
metal breastplate
leather cloak
leather robe
cloth pants
metal greaves
metal helmet
metal gauntlets
cloth socks
metal high boots
metal melee weapon (different squads for Axe, Warhammer, Spear and Sword)

For Marksdwarves:

cloth shirt
metal chain mail shirt
leather cloak
leather robe
cloth pants
metal chain mail leggings
metal cap
metal gauntlets
cloth socks
metal high boots
metal crossbow

I don't see any problems there...
