DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Two birds with one stone
« on: February 13, 2009, 02:27:38 pm »
I'd like to mod cats so that any time two of them come into contact a very large explosion is produced.  Thus, an entrance corridor lined with cat cages tied to a series of levers would put a quick, a very messy, end to any gobbo seiges.

What did you add to the raws? I'd really like to know

DF Gameplay Questions / Flooding the map and living in my flying Box.
« on: February 07, 2009, 04:29:16 pm »
Okay so this is the plan I got after making an aboveground fortress where the entire fortress is held up by 1 stair in the middle and watching a vid of somebody flooding his map.

The plan is something like this; I build the entire aboveground fortress in a giant cube, and I floor the space above the stair. Now I'm totally alone from the outside and nothing should get in.

After that I want to flood the entire map so that I'm living in this giant box.

It looks something like this

[SIDEVIEW]
Code: [Select]
~~~~~~~~~~ < highest z-level
~~~____~~~
~~|    |~~
~~|    |~~
~~|    |~~
~~|____|~~
~~~~~{~~~~ < above ground
----------
////////// < beneath ground
~ = Water
| = Walls
{ = stairway (which is now closed)
Building the giant cube isn't my problem, I know how I can do that and what I have to do with it. But flooding the entire map is.
* How can I make the screwpump an infinite water source? (is it even in this version? 40d)
* How can I make the screwpumps above eachother so they flood every z-level
* Is this even possible or does the water flow off at the edges?
* Shall I make the Box above ground or make a passage to the underworld too?
* how does i screwpump?
DF Gameplay Questions / What to do with my caged goblins?
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:00:17 pm »
Okay so I just got sieged by about 80 dwarves. First I killed off one team with my champion wrestlers but I wanted to cage them (I had a long alley with only cage traps in it). So I did (only a quarter went in before they left; another group was waiting on their unconscious leader who was struck by my war wolf).
But now is my question: what shall I do with them?
I have:
a. A Pit/Pond which drops them from a tower 5z down in 3z of water, then they can climb out and walk around and step on the pressure plate and they fall 3z down in a pit with no way out.
b. A arena under my fort which can be flooded if I want
c. A Pit/Pond over the Trading Depot which I can shut off with floodgates.
Originally my plan was to drop them 2z in the Depot (not killing them but they killing the elven bastards). But what then? If I open it up there are 10 goblins there and if I try to flood it my fortress will be flooded once I open it up.
Halp!
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Releasing tame small animals.
« on: January 31, 2009, 09:44:27 am »
Aww pity, and what if I have some wolves and mod them to be trainable? Will they be taken out of the cage when I ive a train job?
And about the other q in the OP; Switching animals from the stockpile to a lever-hooked cage, how does it work?
« on: January 31, 2009, 08:18:34 am »
Hi everybody, another question from me. I've got this tame lizard sitting in an animal trap I've built recently, and I've modded the raws and made lizards [TAMEABLE]. (How cool is an army of war lizards?)
But my Animal Trainer doesn't want to train him (it says Uther McTrainer cancels Train War Animal: No Creature.
The lizard is sitting in the animal trap happily, but how do I get him out? And if he's out will ge get trained? (I've got a Hunting Cat already so I know the tag is correct)
EDIT:
Now I made a nice arena for things I catch to fight in, but how can I transport caged goblins to the cages already standing there hooked up to a lever?
You started one step too far, hehe. How do I get a chain over there?
Thanks for answering though
I want to have my war dogs guarding the entrance, but I can't possibly find a way to attach them to the chain / to the ground
Can anybody help me out here?
DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Reasons why you love this game
Oh god, I just had this goblin siege and they whooped almost half of my soldiers, when suddenly my Champion came around the corner and started murdering the goblins left. But pityful enough he got pushed into the small pond right at the entrance of my fort. While he was there he heard the noise of a floodgate opening and while he was being flushed out of the pond he insisted that he had to kill 2 more goblins who've also fallen into the water while it's 5/7 deep.
He got out, walked to the entrance again and started mopping the floor again.
Awesome
DF Gameplay Questions / Question about towers and floors.
« on: January 24, 2009, 05:29:49 pm »
Sup everybody, another question:
I've built this giant (well... 4z levels high) tower on top of my entrance, and I want to make the top one a giant room with serveral rooms for my mayor. But since I've floored everything except the sides can I still make some sort of seperation between them?
Also: Having every demand he has in silver does it increase the value of the room? I have nothing better to do and am making silver sets.
This just happened to me, I had an elven carvan come and unload their goods, after that I've made floodgates infront of the entrance to make them mad.
And of course one of my dwarves got trapped with them, stupid idiots.
Well after some time one had gone berserk and killed a donkey and was hurting the other elve. Then suddenly the second donkey got berserk and killed my dwarf and the two elves in there.
Damn donkeys.
Now I've linked a lever to the floodgates for the next carvan to come.
Har.
EDIT:
OMG I just learned to NEVER make your giant wall outside rely on trees, I accidentaly marked them as being chopped and my woodcutter did his job.
one month later I got sieged and all the goblins happily walked straight into my fortress using the backdoor instead of the trapped main entrance.
They're killing EVERYTING inside
EDIT2:
They just ran away, I'm being prepared for a tantrumspiral which is bound to happen
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No dumping outside? (+ wells)
« on: January 24, 2009, 08:55:15 am »
Thanks for answering my question :)
Still leaves this one open:
2. Wells. I have one well in my fortress which works just great, but when I built more (right under that one) I got spammed like : UtherMcIdiot cancels drink: Well dry (something like that). I removed all the old ones and it stopped the spamming, but why are those wells dry and the original one not? (the water was 2 at the bottom, but the old one still worked properly).
(note that there was nothing underneath them to prevent them from being in one line with the water, only next to eachother).
And anyone wanna do me a favor? Tell me how in to get a PS3 gamepad working under windows XP 64-bits. I found this: http://netkas.org/?p=75 but can't get it to work.
First of all; I'm on 32bits Vista
I got my Ps3 controller to work with this tool: http://www12.zippyshare.com/v/60844444/file.html
First install libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe and then run ps3sixaxis_en.exe and quickly press the PS button when the screen popups.
Then you can check at Start > Configuration > Gamepads (Spelbesturingen) if it worked.
(most of the time I run ps3sixaxis_en.exe 20 times and press the PS button, and then it'll work)
Do you have refuse to be gathered outside from the orders screen? (o->r->i?)
I have now, it'll probably be gone in a short time. Thanks!
What I did for the bolts was to claim them, they all got taken away.
EDIT: I tried to sell my pets (goblin maceman, human macelord and goblin thief), but it seems they broke free from their cages and now the macelord is on a giant rampage through my fortress.
What can I possibly do in the future with caged stuff?
DF Gameplay Questions / No dumping outside? (+ wells)
« on: January 23, 2009, 01:42:19 pm »
Hello everybody, small time player, first time poster here.
I'm really enjoying this game so far, about 6 years in my current fort. Altough I have 2 questions:
1. Dumping. When I assign items to be dumped (manually or through d > b > d) inside the fortress, about 20 dwarves show up to dump all the items in the zone in some corner, but now I have some traps outdoors (stone and weapon) and there are goblin parts over them and some rock in the stone trap, also there are bolts lying where I want to built my new wall. I assigned all of them to be dumped but they just won't do it. Now all ambushes/sieges can marsh straight into my fortress (because of the unbuilt wall).
Dwarves are allowed to walk outside and I have a dumping zone setup 2 tiles away. How can I make them dump the stuff?
2. Wells. I have one well in my fortress which works just great, but when I built more (right under that one) I got spammed like : UtherMcIdiot cancels drink: Well dry (something like that). I removed all the old ones and it stopped the spamming, but why are those wells dry and the original one not? (the water was 2 at the bottom, but the old one still worked properly).
Thanks in advance!
EDIT::
3. I have a dog, a goblin maceman and a goblin thief in my cages, what can I do with them?
