if the dingos are moving in a pack, I suggest building a large number of cagetraps in an area that they're likely to pass through because once the head dingo is caught the others will hang around his cage instead of pressing on. If you have a bunch of cagetraps you get a bunch of dingos

Solon InchedDike The Dank Year. The brain injury never healed, by the way, but it doesn't seem to affect him.

Back in 40d I had a dwarf who had a "broken" brain. He lived and I remember that, after several years, you could tell he was different from the others. He did not form any new relations during these years. Not even passing acquaintances.
I seem to remember his ability to gain skills was affected as well but it was so long ago that I don't remember.

If you still have that save somewhere, you could see if Solon's ability to make friends has changed.

Gorlaks are supposed to be benign, yet they viciously assaulted my miner 3 or 4 times during the first spring!

I had no choice but to kill them all. Even the ones that tried to flee into the cave.

Hello 'creative projects' forum.

I figured that I would put up a little thread advertising my art blog.

There isn't much to see yet but the fact is that I've been studying art for quite a while, yet I have shown close to absolutely nothing of my work to anyone except close friends and family members. This has to change.

If you're interested in words and the occasional picture, check it out.
I'll try to monitor this thread as well as the blog, in case someone has questions or whatever.

I care for my dwarves and I provide them with houses, dining rooms, entertainment and grand simply GRAND architecture.

... the dwarves have to sleep in the rain until their grand manors are completed but that's not important is it? Of course it isn't.

oh yes. I did some tests on this with rabbits.
I embarked with 10 bunnies. male and female. then i checked their traits and ended up terminating one, keeping 9. these 9 were unique enough for me to trace their genes via skin and eye-color.

what I found was that they impregnate eachother regardless of location. (through grates, doors, pens, walls...) (i didn't try across z-levels but I assume it's the same) but that's been researched before me and confirmed so it's old news ... but what was news to me was that Female specimen 5 was impregnated by male specimen 4, even though he was on the other side of the map and she had male specimen 2 right next to her. They were placed in the same pen because I wanted their offspring.

 This means that, save for having only 1 male (and avoiding interference from wildlife and merchants) there is no way to control who mates with who.

 A tiny, skinny, good-for-nothing male can instantly inseminate every single female in the herd regardless of his location and in spite of your best attempts to breed good meat-yielding livestock.

 I imagine the best way to go about it is this:
  Kill all weak males at birth.
  Place all weak females in a special pasture, butcher them as they reach adulthood.
  Only keep strong animals.

I haven't tried playing as another race than dwarves (except when everything bugged out and dwarves became troglodytes) but I often build above ground.

Usually it goes like this:
1. Assign construction labour
2. Build common house, complete with well, small storage, dinning room and hospital/dormitory.
3. Build a trade depot and start planning the city.
4. Immigrants arrive, far more than I had anticipated. Add more houses to the city plan.
5. Farm and pastures are being constructed because Armok knows food is dwindling.
6. The undead swarm over my unprepared village and slaughter everyone. Because I always build within the vicinity of a tower but I always assume I have more time... just a little more time to prepare...

If we're modding, then why not make pig tails fireproof and give them a fixed temperature... then cloth dwarves in arena mode and spawn them in lava?
