DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

I finaly found a use for the "Rubber Logs" I bought of the dwarf traders...
my hospital now has four 3x3 rooms with rubber floors and walls... not sure if I can use them for anything yet... but fun to imagine... perhaps I could put insane dorfs caught in cage traps or such in there.  ;D

Got two issues...
I have had ONE STONE WALL (as in 1x20 long) waiting to be constructed for a year now... and my masonry dorfs (they have masonry and arcitecture etc) are just standing there with "no job" next to their name... any ideas?

Secondly I keep getting "... cannot save stuff in barrel because the path is blocked" ... cant they walk across stockpiles anymore?

Hope someone can help...

EDIT: Ok, now the couch-potato virus has spread. 13 of my dorfs are just standing outside in the rain getting sad thoughts... there are no obstacles for them to go underground and no lack of work (got a large portion to be mined by miners, but they just stand there none the less)

So I am extatic... I just found a nice place with an aquifier and a surface magma vent/volcano. I begin digging right next to the volcano, thinking that I can simply dig down in the adamite layer to avoid having to deal with the aquifier. Then the shaft is flooded...

Q: Cant you deal with aquifiers by digging next to volcanos, or is it just me who was unlucky?

I am wondering if the cats can read my mind... was going to kill the only male cat to ensure no more catsplosion... just as I am about to pause this message pops up:
Lorbam ..., Stray Cat has adopted Urist McDorf, Animal Disector [my butcher!]

Now I am wondering if I should chance it... it says he loves cats but... well... I dont want no more cats damn it! they are everywhere due to me spending all my time on these massive immigrant waves.

Got two issues...

1) I am constantly getting "not responding" from the DF client... If I leave it for a few minutes it snaps back in like nothing happened in the first place... Just wondering if its just me (PC: 2.2ghz dual core Pentium, 4GB ram, win7 pro, ...)

2) I am told the dorfs do not have access to seeds at my farms, regardless of which map I play on, even though there is a designated "seed pile" right next to it which is brimming with seeds (have checked, nothing is forbidden etc). Just for clarification: Dug a hole in a bit of earth, built some farm plots without problems... then the issue sets in.

Thanks for any help!

Also on one map I have a strange construction of sorts... It is supposed to be a road (I think) but it comes up as a silthy loam clay strip... with a bridge of willow logs (with walls on the side) leading from the highest point of the road into thin air... not a problem just wonderfully strange. Keep picturing stoned (as in too many rocks to the head) drunken dwarf engineers deciding that that is the way the road is supposed to be. :)

An influx of "m" and "k" 's has left me with little "stuff" left, and no drink due to the volcano I live next to erupting and raining death upon 3 of the 7 dorfs. The mountain homes liaison arrived, only to be killed, as my remaining miner decided to channel under his feet, leaving his burnt corpse bobbing in the magma moat... so dont think much more will be happening here until the reclamation team arrives.  :D

Cows can't be milked in the current version. That's because of the weird mechanics of milking that require the dwarf to hold the milked creature in one hand and a bucket in the other. Accordingly, that's only possible with vermin (namely purring maggots), while cows can't be picked up that way.

Of course, your cows are still gonna be good for a meat, leather and bones industry.

Drats! where are the miniature cows when you need them... or perhaps some form of mechanical claw and bucket apparatus...hmmm... :P
thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Milk and Cheese
« on: February 19, 2010, 10:50:39 am »
Hey,

I am trying to start a food based economy, for the first time, and decided to bring a cow and bull with me from the embark. I have the bull and cow neatly stashed away in a stable:
Code: [Select]
OOO
OcX
OOO
ObX
OOO

O=Wall
X=Door
b=Bull
c=Cow

each tied with some rope and the door set to not allow pets to pass.
Now I have finally gotten the farms up and running and thought I might get on with the milking... only the farmer workshop says there is nothing to milk... any ideas?

DF Gameplay Questions / Dig Deeper - Honey
« on: November 20, 2009, 02:59:23 pm »
I just downloaded the Dig Deeper mod and must say Im loving it.
Only issue is: I embarked with a queen bee from the "seed" section, and cant figure out how to use it to get honey... Searched the forum, wiki and google and cant seem to find any answers...

Honey brewd  becomes mead, Im guessing, but can it also be used raw or processed in cooking?

Mining continues on the 3rd lowest z-lvl, in which buildings are starting to rise. The megaproject is well on its way.  ;D

In other news: searching like mad for the magma pipe. I know it is out there, just want to know where it is so it doesnt flood my underground city...

it is underground, 2 solid layers above it and not forbidden. Starting to wonder if there is a door issue... people sleeping on the floor of the cavern, leaving the fully stocked barracks empty...

Hey,
DF keeps telling me my clerk needs an office to update the stockpile records, yet he has a office (see attached pic). Any ideas what the problem is? (checked door, it is passable)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

DF General Discussion / Re: The Dorfs are Planning Something

hmm... probably, though they cannot be from a previous fort... in the past all of the "settlers" have succumbed to FUN, no survivors. And it is only the original lot... just got a wave of immigrants and they are the usual bunch of lazy, drunk, layabouts that wouldn't put out their beard if it was on fire (which is a distinct possibility as I just stumbled across the magma pool). I think I may have possibly won the "beginning lottery" and gotten some fresh dorfs that hasn't experienced the horror that is DF yet.
