I hope you are joking, because I just posted where they are.

I am embarrassed. I'm in the actual Masterwork DF file. I don't see Repository or home.htm...

One thing you can also do to speed up the game is to end world gen before it goes on too long.

Stop it around year 50 or earlier.

Rivers do have an effect on FPS eventually.

Try embarking on a site like my last, it was a major river with a smaller stream on a cliff leading to a waterfall into the river.

My fort ran at max speed for a while, but when I started getting huge FPS losses, I used DFhack to spawn magma to dam off the one end of the major river where the water flows off the map, and the waterfall too.

I regained like 75 fps.

Make sure to set which squad trains in the settings for the Archery target, then the squad must not be on active duty to train.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Something funny happened in my fort today, though it's with the Masterwork mod.  I will explain for those who have never used it.

I purchased a Hellfire Landmine (A type of Pet used for defense, it blows up in a huge ball of fire when touched.  But they're very expensive) and it was still sitting in the Depot after the traders left, because I hadn't built the cage or made an animal stockpile yet.

A Grave Cat comes walking along and I get a notification that it opened the cage!  It attacks the landmine... And the cat, my Depot, and all the cloth and leather left inside get blown to smithereens.

I was planning to put that somewhere else for defense.  And do you know what happens minutes after my landmine is gone?

Night creature shows up.

I find that Prototype Golems are a good defense against Frost Giants.

The first time I ran into a FG, I considered abandoning cause I didn't really have a military, so I gave one guy a bloodsteel scythe, and he ran around hitting the thing for about 20 minutes without killing it, and it kept causing everyone else to cancel jobs.

Now I just build tons and tons of crafts until I was able to purchase 6 prototype golems, and they murder everything that even looks at my fort.

EDIT:

Also, I seem to have another bug?  I have 5 Bifrost Bars (and 4 steel anvils) but I cannot build the Bifrost Forge.  The bars are not forbidden or anything either.

@wafflelordling: I need way more infos then that.

@michaelsoftman: Wildlife, or hostile units? They should shoot at megabeats, titans, invaders, ambushes, thieves... but leave animals alone.

Oh OK, that explains it.  There was a Gnoll on the bridge they were ignoring.

I'm having an odd issue.

I have 2 bullet turrets chained outside of my fort entrance for defense, but they seem to be ignoring monsters now and not shooting.  They're both undamaged and in perfect health, and haven't been attacked at all recently.

Actually, I tried again on a 2nd site, same situation.  Huge major river, embarked right on the ice as it's frozen in the winter, had a very small time limit to save my Dwarves.  This time I brought a ton of extra metal bars with me (cause why not) and I managed to dig a hole, build a platform out back to the wagon, deconstruct it, and place a floor under it, and RIGHT after I finish the floor, the river unfreezes and one of my miners goes swimming.

He's ok though.

Here's a screen.

Can't you just walk off the river?

No, the whole river was surrounded by sheer cliffs.

By the time I managed to dig a small hole in the side, everything unfroze and only my 2 miners survived.

I have been genning worlds to find a site that has a major river surrounded by extremely high cliffs.  I want to build a fort that's suspended over the river.

I FINALLY get one, and guess where my starting location is?  On the frozen river.  Which won't be frozen for long.

It would have been perfect too, the cliffs are straight up 11 z levels above the river, and there's a smaller waterfall.  But nooooo DF wants my Dwarves to die within a few minutes.

Back to genning worlds!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Where can I find a Chasm?
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:50:32 am »
I could have sworn that they still exist in the current version of the game, but are extremely rare.

I can't remember if I found a chasm linking 2 of the cave layers, or they were just like that naturally, it was a while ago.

But you won't ever find one like in the days of 40d.

Few versions back, I used a bug to make a roast that was a stack of 1000 food items I think.

Was something like 35 million Dwarf Bucks.

Not sure if that would count, considering it's a bug.

If you buy a cage with vermin in it, it doesn't show it in the trading screen.

Happens with elves all the time.

I like embarking onto surface volcanoes.

It's by far the best thing ever.

Magma moat for the fort!
