They need to be kept in the hospital in a chest or coffer (or maybe a cabinet). Also, they need to be empty. If a bucket gets filled with water and then ends up not getting used for whatever reason, it's still full of water and, paradoxically, can't be used to go get more water for the hospitalized dorf. I think there used to be a mod that let you process full buckets into empty ones at the kitchen or somewhere else. I believe it was a custom reaction.

I started playing the steam version. Giant Sparrows started killing dorfs about 6 months after embark. Winning!

If I've added [WAGON_PULLER] to various elfish animals like moose, elk, and deer; and if I add the following to ENTITY:FOREST; will the point-eared hippies be likely to arrive with wagons?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Thanks!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Starting at year 2 a few questions...

I often start year 5. At that age, it's entirely possible that the original king/queen will die without having any children, in which case a dwarf from your fort is likely to take the crown after having a spirited conversation with other local leaders. Unlike the baron, you won't have any say in who makes themselves monarch.

This matches my experience in a real-life pool party. Get out of the pool, go get an adult beverage.

Very true. For example, here're the vanilla raw definitions for a duck's feathers.

[SET_TL_GROUP:BY_CATEGORY:ALL:FEATHER]
[TL_COLOR_MODIFIER:BROWN:1]
[TLCM_NOUN:feathers:PLURAL]

And here's what I have modded into my personal mod for a duck:

[SET_TL_GROUP:BY_CATEGORY:ALL:FEATHER][TL_COLOR_MODIFIER:BROWN:10:WHITE:10:BLUE:5:DARK_BROWN:5:AUBURN:3:SLATE_GRAY:3:DARK_GREEN:8:LIGHT_BLUE:1]
[TLCM_NOUN:feathers:PLURAL]

Hmmmm. There was another thread back in December about book titles, but the post above seems to have more useful info in it. Thank you for putting that together.

- More names for item_food. Simple one, doesn't change balance and I'm sure dwarves can do better than biscuits, stew and roast.

I'll just leave this here and see myself out.

Back before multi-tile trees were a thing, I had a list of trees in my personal mod that I added for flavor. I'm trying to figure out how to use the new tree tags and get them back.

What kind of trees?

Typical mundane trees.
  • Redwood
  • Tupelo
  • Joshua Trees
  • Cottonwood
  • Aspen
  • Pinyon
  • Portia
  • Sycamore
  • Palmetto
  • Fir
  • Spruce
  • Juniper

How are you generating the disease names? Is there a topic token so that the game generates the diseases, or were these written by you as displayed?

I had a pilgrim arrive with the last migrant wave. His skills say "farmer", but he's colored white. I can assign him labors, occupations, noble positions, and military duty, but he stays white.

Did you recently create or free up space in a furniture stockpile? If so, the mechanisms in the workshop could have been tasked to be moved into said stockpile.

The Caverns didn't always have water back in 2007. Back then, you had to be lucky and find an underground lake or river to discover subterranean water.
