Other Games / Re: Games you wish existed
« on: December 03, 2015, 06:26:31 am »
So a game idea got described to me and I thought it sounded interesting.
It's a game where you play an elf, specifically, The Last Elf. Anything human-like is extinct including elfdom, and humanity is essentially fading out of existence, essentially wiped out by an invading race of goblins or beastmen.

It's a revenge driven game, you're not really trying to save anyone or anything. It takes place in an open world on a single continent with a detailed ecosystem, there's cities populated by the invaders, supplied with various resources to function. Day night cycle, they wake up and go to work on their what have you. There's plenty of nice and serene areas too, but they get slowly encroached on as the enemy urbanizes.
So your real goal is to wipe out the invaders and their entire emergent civilization through any means; destroying food supplies, spreading disease, inciting wars among factions/city-states, killing sprees, etc.

Regarding the you as elf fighting things, it'd probably make sense as a third-person thing to emphasize being mobile in addition to some pretty difficult combat. Standard access to a variety of weapons, traps, magic that is powered by the blood of your enemies.
There'd be a counter in a menu or even constantly on the hud telling you how many invaders are left in the world. For the longer reaching plans that the player enacts, they can choose to wait a few years, but they'd reproduce and advance technologically. Wait too long without doing anything to them, they reach a renaissance and you lose. But wait a long time and they forget you were real, and form legends and so on.

So when you wipe them out, you can continue playing as normal. Or you can idle for a few minutes, and the character starts walking back to where the game started, and says it's over. Then you can start a new game.

I doubt any large company would try something simulator, and anything that actually gets made would probably be heavily abstracted and lose a bit of flavor in the process. But a wish is a wish.

How was anyone's experience with the CK2>EUIV save converter? Do dynasties transfer over, do nation names affect national ideas, et cetera? A CK2 game of mine and a few friends is on it's last few years and we were going to see how well the converter carries over things such as tribes and reformed paganism.

Exists.

Rightio. Folks interested, it'll be in your best interest to hop into irc.darkmyst.net, and from there, join #TROD. I'll be settling the problems such as the lack of books and rules there.

@LordBucket: Yeah, I realized that what I made was going to be really unclear.
The Riddle of Steel, although based on movies, is at it's base, a system. The base setting for Riddle of Steel is irrelevant.
There is a set of homebrew rules a friend had made for a Morrowind game, or suffice to say, is meant for the Elder Scrolls setting in general.
Daggerfall, setting wise, is much more similar to Oblivion than any other game in the Elder Scrolls series.
To reiterate, the setting of the game is in Daggerfall, during the events of said game, using a homebrew Elder Scrolls ruleset for the Riddle of Steel system.
The game is going to be mostly IRC based. Roll 20 will be used for larger fights that require terrain checks.

Welcome, heroes, to the the Illiac Bay! A wondrous place, filled with warring kingdoms, and odd people, much like the rest of Tamriel.
Uh, what is the Riddle of Steel?
A suuuuper super SUPER super old Tabletop RPG from the early 2000s! It was a wondrous game. Unfortunately, skills are not the main point of the game. What is the main point? Incredibly gruesome, deadly melee combat, and incredibly detailed and devastating magic, that's what!
And how does this tie in to Daggerfall or the Elder Scrolls?
Homebrew! These rules, created by Atomicdremora here on this forum for a Morrowind game, are here to facilitate the play of an Elder Scrolls game. Spellswords, Assassins, you name it.
What day is this going to be?
Well, that's up to all you folks. A vote might be best.
And where do I get the rules for this?
Moi, since the company itself has hit the bottom around 2005. I will also provide the homebrew rules to the game via pastebin.
What about Daggerfall?
Players of Oblivion should be very familiar with this kind of setting, but being the Elder Scrolls, there's still bits and pieces of lore available to see in the game. Go ahead and get it, Bethesda released it for free. And be noted, when you do make a character, it may be in your best interests to make a reason to know Emperor Uriel Septim. Reasons, friend.

Life Advice / Re: So a group is splintering apart

@Delitoh
Half right. Eventually, there was some stupid stuff where they let me back for a bit, I continue to voice my distaste about the situation. They even gave me a hope spot where apparently A was supposed to 'consider' letting me back in, but he said he "liked it better this way". He dropped the entire thing, but there's still been problems. The whole ostracizing thing from third party settings was crossing the line though, and that's apparently where they got fed up with me.
The current situation got half resolved. We got a mutual mute going, and as much as I'd like to strive for a real resolution, I'm not. There's other people and better things to spend my time on.
Thanks to all the people that did decide to drop their two cents. It did really help me through this.

Honestly? I think it was because he was a control freak. He didn't seem to like anything not going his way and pretty much was only pleased by the fence sitters and sycophants. I'm kinda happy that I got away from them, and I'm perfectly content of letting them make themselves look like asses. I wish I could forgive them, but now I realize both of our faults. It wasn't worth it.

Hi, here I am again. I managed to get away from the group, on less than peaceful terms than I hoped.

But here I am, I'm actually satisfied with my life from here on out. Except for one tiny thing.

I participate in a line battle group for Mount and Blade: Warband. Just a group of friends playing together and such, and one thing comes. I still have the rules for a homebrew section of an RPG that Person B worked on. I notify Person B that I still have them. I'm no plagiarist. And I'm no thief.

And now they're trying to kick me out of a the group, three to one. At least, among me and their group. I actually have people to stand up for me now. A good five, at least, but there's far more than that in the group. What the hell do I do from here?

I decided for the betterment of all involved that I am to leave. It was the advice given to me, and with the signs of A, and talks with all the others, nothing was to be gained by staying anyway. A still would have been furious if I had been in a game, associating with the others, even on a day where he was not involved. The others assured me that nothing can be done to make A resolve things. I believe that now.

On the plea of, 'this shit is whack, I ain't seeing clearly, and neither are any of you', I departed.
There begs the problem of a Line Regiment I'm in with B, C and F, but it should be easier to participate and ignore them than it is to have the chance to talk to them at any other time.

And to further explain the reason for B's anger, it's because the work of 2 weeks had gone to waste. Well, for now. Person A came back after a day, D-F continue to be neutral.
