DF Modding / Help! Running the Phoebus savegame updater broke my save
« on: February 18, 2012, 02:12:21 pm »
I installed the Phoebus pack for 0.34 and ran the two updater scripts. Now when I try to load my savegame I get the error message "missing translation definition". What can I do to recover my savegame?

Amazing :D The generosity of everyone here is just incredible.

Huge difference for me. 4x4 starting location, 7 dwarves, without accelerator sitting at 48fps, with accelerator and partial_print:yes:0 hitting fps limit. Thanks!

DF General Discussion / Cancel out of starting location search
« on: April 23, 2010, 05:51:06 am »
So I'm giving DF a few search criteria for a starting position, and by the time it's examining location 11/257, it's found one that's all green, meaning all my criteria fulfilled. Still I can't just cancel and go for that one, I have to let it sit and laboriously work through the rest of the search. Wouldn't it make sense to enable the ESC key to cancel out of a starting position search whenever you want to?

So what would a normal, clueless, "have no idea how to irrigate" person do in 0.31 so that his dwarves don't starve? Never relied on fishing/hunting/trapping before. Would it be feasible to bring some above-ground seeds and plant those in an outdoor farm? Or should I just wait for this bug to be fixed before I try for my first embark?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Conduct meeting during siege?
« on: July 01, 2009, 05:23:48 am »
As it turns out, goblins aren't very interested in killing emo dwarves. They just... walked right past them to the fortress. Where they were torn apart by war dogs. I seriously underestimated the awesomeness of war dogs.

Soon after we retired this fortress because a) it was just becoming clear that we'd "won" in that it would take a very long time before anything would bring the fortress down (I'm perfectly aware of the fact that every fortress fails at some point) and b) because we were getting single digit fps. 7x7 embark area and around 120 dwarves. Not good.

Thanks for all the advice though!

I'm having real trouble finding a starting position that has these features:

Flux Stone Yes
Aquifer No
River Yes
Underground Pool Yes
Magma Pool Yes

Everything else is set to N/A. I've created a number of LARGE worlds and whenever I run a site search with these settings, it's the Magma Pool that ends up red (could not find I guess).

Now my question is, is this in some way connected to one of the other features? As in, is there ONE of these things I could turn off to get a much better chance of magma pools? Or are they just that rare? Is there something I can tweak in the world generation parameters (minimum volcanism maybe?) or in the worldgen.txt that would make magma pools more common?

Lazy question: has some friendly soul already made a package of this version with a tileset? I'm currently playing with Raving Rodent's resplendid set of tiles, but I seem to be too dumb / lazy to get it to run with d12.

Thanks everyone. Since this is a succession game with no set turn-lengths, I decided now was a *great* moment to save and, uh, allow my co-ruler to rule a little. Problem solved!

DF Gameplay Questions / Conduct meeting during siege?
« on: June 29, 2009, 11:47:48 am »
This is a little odd.

I'm being besieged and so I gave the "soldiers can go outside" order to make my civilians run indoors. Knowing that dwarves can be a little headstrong sometimes, I checked to make sure everyone really went indoors, and what do you know, they hadn't. Two dwarves were casually hanging out by the brook, unconcerned by the vile force of darkness approaching them. What the hell are you doing, I as[k]ed them, and turns out they're "conduct[ing a] meeting".

One of them is my expedition leader, and the allknowing wiki told me that sometimes dwarves come to the expedition leader to whine voice their concerns. However, the leaderdwarf has a perfectly great office for that kind of thing. So I do what I always do when my dwarves disobey, I [A]ctivate them and station their squad somewhere. Only this time, even that didn't help. The two emotional dwarves are sitting out there all alone by the picturesque brook talking about their feelings and their hopes while an infernal army of darkness approaches in the background. Now I've always liked dwarves for their stolidness, but Mister Leaderdwarf is a Legendary Recordkeeper and I'd much rather have him stay alive. Anything I can do?
