Hey, I have only ever played with the standard Dwarf Fortress graphics, but lately a few freinds have been asking about the game. Is there any semi-recent version of the game i can download that already has a graphic's pack installed?

Build floor hatches or bridges out of a magma safe. As it shows on the wiki a good magma piston shouldn't have any wholes around the edge at all and neither bridges nor floor hatches grant support to adjacent constructions.

Try queuing it up with the manager. Sometime dwarves have problems recognizing that they have everything that they need for a reaction. If that doesn't work then you are probably missing something else somewhere. Personally I always use tallow for my soap reactions, and I've never had any problems with it.

Thankyou. The manager que did the trick, and i did not know that about floor hatches and bridges.

Two questions if you dont mind,

1: When making a repeatable piston, how do i catch the lava that flows off the side and back down next to the piston?

2: Im having trouble understanding how to make soap. im pretty sure i have lye and rocknut oil available, but when i go to the soapmaker's workshop and hit 'a'dd new task then "make soap from oil" i only get a list of what is needed to do so and what it creates (i can uplaod a screen shot if needed). what am i doing wrong?

Do you have multiple trade depots?  Is the depot forbidden?  (check by 't'-ing over the building and seeing whether its component items, e.g. rocks or logs, are forbidden)

There was a a second trade depot that was fully walled off from the map. i removed it and everything is now back to normal, thankyou for you help.

there have been 4 caravans so far that have stopped moving for no reason.

The first two are human, the first wagon makes it to the supply depot, then the second stops on space before it, the third a space before that, and so on. there are also 2/x humans that just stand on edge of map and dont move twords my depot, the rest do fine and actually make it there. there is always depot access. there are no enemies on map (besides a handful in cages out of sites range). after a while on map they just leave.

as for the elfs, both times, they came at the same time as a theif, and when the thief appears between them and the depot they run. a few seconds later my axe dwarf kills the thief but the caravan stays where it ran to until their time on map is up then they leave.

im willing to uplaod my game (which currently has a human caravan stuck in front of the depot) if need be.

Sorry if this turns out to just be me failing

Also, incidently, is there a way to make 'fortress gates' for an outdoor wall?  I want something that I can open and close to to let trade caravans in or seal the fortress off

my question is what are the requirements for pregnancys. below is what i considere the key components of my fortress, but they dont seem to matter.

Its, to what i beleive, year 23 in my current fortress of 7 dwarfs i havnt achieved a single pregnancy. i have 2 males, 6 females of which there have been 2 couples (lovers) since year 1. my baby cap in the INI file is 100:1000 and pop cap is at 100. wealth at 71k, food is at 250 and drink at 300. everyone has a "great bedroom" and has been in happy or better since the start.

help?
