Other Games / Re: How did you last die?

Sif is a very bad doggy and I suck at timing medium rolls for the one attack that actually can kill me when I wear armor. x10 (Dark Souls)

Basically from previous plays I figured out the best way for my "dex*" characters to beat Sif is to max poise while still having fast roll and don't mess up too much.  Which is basically cosplaying as a Undead Berg hollow with a better sword.  Trying this with a heavy str build resulted in death, as my attacks are much slower so my roll in, roll out strategy didn't work.  So I elected to max defense with medium roll and have been sucking with dodging, which isn't too bad except for his one full spin, which just BECAUSE I have lots of poise it hits me twice.

*I don't actually ever have str/dex/burn it with fire characters until around Sen's, I have get-enough-primary-stats-to-use-the-weapon-then-stack-only-endurance-and-weapon-upgrades-so-I-can-roll-more-characters.

I make very liberal usage of the random desktop feature of win7 so showing every wallpaper I use will take lots of effort (and some are NSFW), but my favorite two are:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

because Praise the Sun!

and

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

because it's only fun if they run.

Well pros: you have a fort of blood-sucking monsters
cons: ummm.... sucks (heh) to be a migrant?

I tend to try for making as much of my fort as possible into whatever nasty curse is there, mostly so I stop having random deaths from the snacks and I don't have to seal away a dorf.  Especially in this case, where making the hammerdorf return to the holding area can be tricky without them running off to get a quick snack.

The answer is clearly a well designed daycare centre.  With a well designed spa for the parents.

A poor attempt at breakdancing obviously.

Operation "Happy Fun Bloody Water Time" is about to begin.  My vampiric bookkeeper is in his tank with all levers primed for bloodletting.  Booze has been forbidden and the well will be used shortly.  Hopefully my bookkeeper doesn't die because he's the best I've got.  Non-lethal things are not my strong point.  Food production needs to be converted to cloth production, as increasing the value of the fort will increase the number of tasty tasty snacks available.

In other news, Operation "Tasty Tasty Snacks" is well underway, with plenty of doors requested and the bedrooms almost complete.

In other other news, Operation "Happy Fun Slashy Time" is sufficient for a small force, but a siege will cause jamming before the appropriate number of giblets are created.

No.  My fortresses fall in a blaze of glory and a wave of undead parts or gas that turns you inside out.

Silver is a soft but dense metal, which makes it nice for blunt weapons for that extra bling value.

Your general could be a necro, or he could be a wrestler, both of which are Fun, since leaders have high skills (usually).  Which is pretty easy, since necros cause stuff to not stay dead, while wrestlers tend to make things not stay in one piece.

WOOOO WHERE IS MY PAT ON THE BACK?

*patpatpat*  :P

Very clumsy dorfs sometimes do fall down wells and usually get their fat but apparently porous behinds stuck halfway down, but not that many.  Best guess is they are crossing somewhere there is a hole into the river or by the waterfall, getting spooked by something random and dive into the water like little boozy lemmings.

Work the dorfs until their beards wear off while elven prisonersrulers in cagesroyal suites watch.  You know, for accuracy.  Make sure they get first go at the gilded (magma) bathhouse.

What is the most....!!FUN!!.....way to start a fort?

Embark on a volcano and dig into the side, through the obsidian.

Also known as the skip the wind up bits and go straight to the boatmurdered-esque landscape.

My last fort was plagued by cat heads with only a single hammerdorf to squish them.  Well not only cat heads, but they were the featured random body part with emu corpses, raven corpses, dog corpses, dorf corpses, elf corpses, corpse corpses, and a yak skin in a garbage pit.

I go with:
2 miners (You'd be surprised how much a couple ranks of mining helps dig away from the zombies)
a doctor (need someone to fix those zombie bites)
a people-dorf
Two dogs (war dogs just run to die faster)
Two cats (made this list before the traps were in the game and too lazy and set to change it)
a carpton of booze (mostly rum)
a carpton of wood
two picks
one axe
rest is food, usually sets of 5 of each item

I usually go to savage evil biomes, so I don't want too many animals running around before I can dig in, they just die; and I need enough supplies to survive holed in until my farms work.  I don't want to run 1 of everything food that is 2 cost, because then I have a ton of spoiling things usually sitting outside until the great zombie migration passes.  Since my first act is get everything inside and shut the door, military is not a large concern for me, I just close up the gates and wait for them to leave.

Last I bothered to pay attention to it meals just had to have different things for the ingredients, so no more Dwarven Wine Roasts with minced Wine and chopped Wine.  I would expect since I can have a Wine roast with Rum sauce, you can have an chicken egg roast with minced goose egg on top.

For me, fun starts when I embark to a evil zone and laugh at the tentacles sitting around everywhere.  And then more fun when zombies arrive.  Which turns into panic because for the nth time I've forgotten to make a dorf a soldier and bring war dogs.
