If you are interested in a heavily bastardized Gaia gen, I finally tweaked my Gaia World Gen to where I like it.  It has 50 volcanoes, no peaks, no oceans, more magic, more savagery, and generates a random region.  The land is somewhat flatter but not as much as I wanted.  My goal was to have volcanoes that were not on the top of peaks (40 z levels of cliffs gives me a headache) and though it is not the 50/50 split I was looking for there are usually 2 to 3 volcanoes that are in areas with only 4 or 5 Z levels of cliffs.  With all the Races and Creatures options set to yes I get all 4 Dwarves, Drow, Elves, and Humans in sufficient numbers on about 1/4th of the maps I gen.

Anyway, here is an example map of one world I genned and the code you would need to paste into your world_gen.txt file if you are interested.

I don't know what you did here but the first embark I found with a relatively flat volcano, Prospector tells me that I have 143k of Silver, 140k of gold, and 137k of Tetrahedrite, also 4k Mithril and 2k wolfram (but only 1500 hematite).

What am I going to do with all this stuff?  I'm pretty sure I could a statue as big as Armok out of that much precious metal.  I'm thinking of maybe dropping embark-tile sized hammers of constructed gold down on intruders, but I'm sure there's more I can do with that much stuff.

So how would this work with say, Phoebus's pre-packaged graphics set?  Can I just use that graphics pack, overwrite with your raws, and have it use all the stuff you've added, or do I have to find or extract only the character graphics to vanilla DF + Genesis?

Is this compatable with 31.03 yet?  Been playing it on .02 for a while, definitely enjoying it, but I really want to move to the next version for those delicious pathing fixes.

So I set my starters up with some nice larger rooms with a bed and even a cabinet!  But they don't seem to like it, in fact they seem to enjoy the 2x1s I've been digging for the new migrants that I haven't even stuck doors on yet.

It's not the economy, I've only got like 12 dwarves at this point. They just don't want to sleep in the beds I've set aside for them.  Any idea what's happening?

Man, tried another embark and I didn't even strike the earth before my entire group was mauled by a Skeletal Polar Bear.  I even started with some military dwarves that time.  Maybe I need some more 'calm' settings to embark.

Also, it turns out that Werewolves can swim, while Hungry Tired Thirsty wrestlers cannot.

I started a new site on 31.02, and before I even managed to get everyone inside, I was assaulted by a werewolf.  I didn't even know how to work the military screen at that point, but now at least I know how to get everyone in a single squad and designate a target.  :P  Now, as half my dwarves are dead, the other half-1 is blinking red Xs, and the Werewolf is a mess of yellow guts and spine and red Left Eye Teeth as it is chased by my last wrestler who is thirsty, hungry, and tired, I figured I'd try to see what had actually going on before I abandon and reclaim.  Loosing is Fun.

TL;DR How do I check the combat log?

We need dwarven Has-mat suits, that way they can go into high-temperature environments, avoid poison gas, things like that.  (Magma scuba anyone?)
