C# version coming early 2020, and will be much faster.

Has the creator made an announcement about that? It's been at least 3 or 4 months since the last time I checked the site, and people where speculating that early 2020 was more likely than late 2019, but there wasn't an official time table. It looked like there were a lot of cool updates coming with the C# version, so I'm excited for that.

My first thought was that it was an unforeseen consequence of the combination of Summer and Winter, causing Arcadia to breakdown, and the approaching figure was the King or Queen. I'm not sure that checks out though, and I have no idea what's going on. We know that the Wild Hunt fae who are with the army weren't able to open gates out, so the hellscape thing has been going on for awhile, but Cat just opened a gate not too far from the army and the part of Arcadia she traveled through at that point looked fine.

There was a fairly convincing argument in the comments that it's Zeze (Hellgates and something in the sky, indicating Flying Fortress-City, and possibly absorbing the power of Witnessing the events at that city), but I've got no idea. There aren't a whole lot of people who are capable of breaking off a splinter of Arcadia, and he's certainly powerful and crazy enough, but why would he be targeting the Army of Callow? I'm sure it's not just the location they happen to be at because they haven't been standing still. Maybe he's mad at Cat, and figured she would show up there eventually.

It doesn't seem to be the Dead King's M.O. but it's not like this isn't something he could do. Sure, he typically only attacks with massive armies of undead, but I remember Cat theorizing that he never actually led his armies in the previous invasions, so he might use all kinds of new tricks. He would probably be interested in a distracting battle that weakens all his enemies.

My theory? Larat or whatever his name is became/was-corrupted-by a demon, and now HellMirror!Arcadia is following him around.

So I started playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf again, and I've also been playing a lot of Aurora, and it made me think of this thread.
At first I thought the combination was impossible, but after awhile I realized, it's just No Man's Sky isn't it? Mostly single player, exploring lots of different systems looking for resources, doing little tasks for the funny aliens back at your base, customizing your ships and base with various parts, spending way too much money for slightly more storage space.

I think I like my other idea better though. Basically Animal Crossing but in space. Your town is a Solar System, and the residents are Governors. You can research new expansions for the various planets, but each one might take days(they occur in real time, and you have to pay for them), and you fly your ship around the system gathering resources and collecting things and socializing with your governors. Sometimes they'll have tasks like "My planet would like a new (Researched building or collected item)" but it's basically optional. You can also tour your world, your governors' worlds, or visit your friends' systems. I don't know what else. Presumably to borrow more from Aurora, planets can have stats for suitability, mineral and financial wealth, population, and environment.

Mat was one of the characters I was thinking of actually (Hung in exchange for wisdom, a raven on each shoulder, a strange spear and hat, he obviously borrows a lot from Odin, though I didn't realize it until the very end with the "Half the light of the world" stuff because it was so gradual and I was pretty excited when I figured it out) and there's a character in another series I forgot the name of, something to do with gates and alternate worlds that provide magic, who also has a magic spear, trades an eye for knowledge, and has a raven giving her advice. I don't know any myths about Odin having an awesome cape though, which is probably Cat's biggest artifact right now.

I saw the comments mentioning this might be the Prince's Graveyard, but I don't remember much about it. I know the name has shown up a lot in the chapter headers, and I recognize the phrase "7 princes and 1" that somebody brought up. I think I just assumed that the "Prince's Graveyard" was that battle they mentioned where Nauk shot the Prince, though I don't think anybody ever actually called it that, and they had another name for it, iirc. Going in, I guess we know Cat wins (or it at least shows off how she does battle now) and a bunch of Princes die if it is that battle, but I'm pretty excited to see how it all plays out. There's a lot of moving parts coming together, and I'm hoping Hakram and his army will show up for it too.

Sometimes I really get into the politics of this series too. I liked a lot of the stuff going on in Procer and the Dominion, or at least I found it interesting. Leaders being forced to make decisions they don't like in order to maintain at least some control over the situation. (I probably shouldn't say I "liked" that the one guy had to whip his son, but I did like the reasoning) Plus, Cat recently learned that the Bard might be influencing the Augur, which means she could be orchestrating this whole thing, since at least some of this is because the Augur said it was necessary.

For sure.  I do wish the chapters had tags so I could actually go back and find stuff.  **Book V discussion ahead, for those not caught up**  For example, I vaguely know the name Nauk, but don't recall much about him.  Would be nice if I could easily find his screen time from the War College or the first battles.  Similarly with Abigail, I want to reread her fight against the Fae, and when she infamously (if unjustly) earned the reputation for eating them, lol.

I really don't remember that much about Nauk either, other than that Cat was really upset that time he almost died, and I at least remember when that was. Also, I think he was the one who couldn't control his rage. Funny thing about Abigail is that I remember her from, I think, the battle of Second Liesse, but she apparently had already shown up and gotten a promotion by then, and I'll have to take Cat's word for it on that. Actually, a lot of what I "know" about both of them is stuff that was brought up in the most recent chapters when describing them, and I'm just like "Uh huh, sure, that sounds right." I remember their names, and the events described sure sound familiar, but if they said that the whole "preventing a riot by giving out beer in Liesse" thing had been Archer's idea instead of Abigail's, I wouldn't be able to contradict anybody.

I like this story, I've just read a LOT of stuff since these previous events happened.

Of course Winter could have done that easily. The ice cracking under you and plunging you into freezing water is explicitly a Winter thing, and easily falls within that domain. I'm not even sure how it works with Night, other than pumping a lot of power into something to break it, and maybe decay and entropy are linked to Night like they are to Winter. I thought it was "cool" that trying to use that much Night power in the middle of the day turned out to be a bad idea. There's probably other uses that are better suited to this new magic, and it should be interesting to see what she can pull off after sunset.

Side note: I'm gonna be disappointed if Cat loses an eye and gets a funny hat. I like the staff because it builds into this priest mystique she's got going on, but I don't want her to become Odin (it happens).

If we can manage aircraft despite all of Earth's whales, and boats despite all the seawhales, I think we can manage to build a moonbase. Just have to make sure there's enough funding for state-of-the-art anti-moonwhale harpoons.

It's one of the three webserials I'm reading right now. I caught up to it, then stopped reading back in like June or July to read The Gods are Bastards, and once I finished binging that (which seriously took me 6 months without really reading anything else), I went back to PGtE. I love them both. Also, the authors are both big fans of each other, which I think is great. I think I've got to reread at least the first couple books (or up to whenever Second Liesse is), because there's a lot of stuff I've forgotten, but if I do that, it'll actually just be because I want to read the parts about Arcadia again.

Part of me wants to make a Crusader Kings mod for it, but I seriously don't have the attention span to even figure out how modding the map for that game works. Any time they start talking about princedoms and duchies, though, I get that itch.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
So I'm assuming that Wits would also be used for things like tracking, being able to tell when a storm is coming, and generally understanding what you need to do to survive, while Learning might cover understanding a lot of why things happen or more scientific thought, or at least formal education.I don't know if learning would cover a lot that this guy needs to know, since most of the examples didn't seem like it, but the expert trait does have a couple examples that suggest I should maybe shuffle some points into it. I don't know if I'll actually be able to play (if it's just play-by-post, I can probably manage) but I still wanted to write up this character. And I briefly considered also nicknaming him "Frostbite" after those earlier jokes.

A couple comments on "Fry" First, cornflower is actually a shade of blue, not yellow. Really confused me when I was watching Breaking Bad and a blue shirt was referred to as Cornflower, because I thought of corn flour. Also, I just like that character. I had somebody similar in mind, but from the thaw rather than the inner lands. Also, I basically stole her concept from what I remember of "True Grit" and that's also where a lot of this guy came from.

I think Class X was a developing situation, there's a handout on alert levels on Roll20. Basically, it's one where there's not enough information to assign it a more specific number. I'm a lot more particular about when I can play, but that's why I joined a west marches game anyway. My schedule doesn't really allow me to say I'm available at the same days every week. If the timing doesn't work out that often, I'll still try to do some downtime stuff so people aren't surprised I exist when I do get in a mission.

All of those alerts look interesting to me. A dice roll suggests I vote for the pirate outpost though, if that's how we're deciding. Obviously I don't think it should count if I can't be there.

The way permissions work, you can assign editing and viewing to different people. Mesa has apparently made the sheets viewable to everybody I think, which allows people to see the bio's, but obviously hasn't made them editable by everybody. You can't assign individual permissions to somebody who hasn't joined the game yet, and it's likely that she just doesn't know who you are to assign the character to you. There's only one person that's actually listed in the players who's unaccounted for, so I can guess who you are, but it might be easier for Mesa if you either introduce yourself in the games chat so she can link the sheet to your name, or change your display name for this game specifically under the settings tab, the gear on the right. For example, I changed my name to Interus, to match my name here, even though you might notice there's no Interus on the player list.

11
I have discord. You could also create an IC thread on the game's Roll20 page. That might not get seen as much as here or discord though, since somebody could go straight from Recent Games to Launch Game, without really stopping at the front page.

I like the council soldier idea. There's another game I'm playing where I'm basically your standard Good Soldier, and I personally think it's fun.

Oh yeah, I guess just having a system of paying and alerting teams of contractors would work, and fits with us being able to basically pick which jobs we go on. I think maybe you understood it better than I did.

So, my character is a sort of wandering hacker named Pisces who's placed herself into the Phoenix Project. Only now I'm not sure why. I want to play a role where I'm using spying and precognition to pinpoint targets for the group, using Truesight and occasionally my Observant perk to try to detect traps and maybe logic to disarm them, and bolster to boost my allies in combat, or maybe my drone, but I want to be a team player.

So now I have to figure out why a hacker who's scared of getting hurt and is constantly covering her tracks would join a government organization sending teams into dangerous areas. Best I've got is that she's interested in trying to figure out Andromedan computer systems, but there's a lot of concerns there. First, that's not a real goal. But maybe I'll change it to something audacious like reactivating an Andromedan scout ship and keeping it secret from the authorities (which honestly sounds like a terrible idea to me because it would attract WAY too much attention). On the other hand, her past is completely unwritten, other than that she has ties to information brokers and has a completely harmless background on record. Maybe she's looking for her parents or family. At the very least, I know that she wants to work with people because information alone isn't enough, and she needs close ties to people who are capable in other ways. I can't figure out what she needs those ties for though. She's not prone to being straightforward though, so if it comes down to it, maybe I'll just keep it a secret (even from myself) until we learn more about the setting.

So far though, I really like Tau and the Wract. I figure that as a fan of robots and computers, (and because I'm personally pro-AI) Pisces likes artificial intelligence, and would feel somewhat excited about meeting what could be considered a rogue AI. Plus it's a cat. I don't know if she's ever seen a cat before, but cats are great and robots are great. As for the Wract, they're very interesting. She shares the value of being willing to break the law and cross barriers to achieve your goals, while minimizing attention, and definitely has no problems with lying, but doesn't like the idea of assassination. She probably views backstabbing in a sort of "It's just business" way. I found that bio to be very interesting it got me thinking about what her own values would be.

I found this site https://openlegend.heromuster.com/ for making character sheets, and it's pretty handy just for the ability to filter banes and boons to what you can actually use.

Milo, there's a feat called climbing that lets you climb on everything at your move speed and only costs 1 feat point! I don't know if you looked at feats yet, but that character just has to have it. (in case this reads as bossy, I intended it to sound excited)

Personally, I'm strongly leaning towards a hacker that's exactly like the one in the archetypes under character creation. With Fugitive and Observant as perks, and cowardly as a flaw. I decided on those before I knew that the setting involved working for the government, but there's no reason my current employers need to know that I've got a lot of underworld connections.

I think something like that system could work.
Maybe 4 hours, and it's more that each 1 unit could be a day's worth. So if you roll well, you've got enough wood to keep warm for 3 nights.
I wouldn't include stone unless you're specifically trying to build something. What I'm thinking is that most of the players would be the kind of people who travel often, or don't do their own construction, so I wouldn't want these checks to take all day. I'd also make finding game more interesting though. A check to see if you find something, DM decides (maybe rolls on a chart, or 10 is small game, 15 and 20 are larger?) to see what you found, and you take the shot. Either you kill it, wound it and it attacks or runs away but is easy to follow, or miss it and it attacks or escapes. Then you get however much meat and a fur.
I suppose if you want to play a game where you just settle down and try to build a farm, that's fine. I know there's appeal to that, and for anybody interested, there's a game called UnReal World which is a survival game in Iron Age Finland which is basically all of that. Farming, hunting, fishing, gathering berries and mushrooms, building various shelters, and panicking while trying to build a fire because the ice cracked and you barely made it back to shore.

I think of the survival aspect as something you do while investigating what's been killing seacattle and leaving eviscerated corpses on the shore, or while tracking down Flintless Dave, who kills people after they've set up camp so that he gets their valuables and a warm place to sleep. That and specific situations like when you notice a blizzard is coming in and you've gotta either weather it outdoors, requiring turning your sled into a shelter and having enough food and wood, or remember that you know a farmer or rest stop nearby and impose upon them to let your group stay there. Maybe they've got enough food, and hopefully everybody can keep from killing each other before the storm passes.
