Roll To Dodge / Re: Witch-hunt: Act 1 - The Trail of Blood [6/6]

((Welp, if everyone's leaving, I guess my role-playing time's over for the moment then. Oh well, I'm going to be busy anyways, so hey, I get to relax and perhaps watch others die kill the witch.))

As the various members of the initial group presumably departed from the inn, in the distance they would hear Castel talk to herself as she looked in the inn's door..

"What the hell was that?! Why did he reanimate, he wasn't really even-... hey, where are you guys going? ...Actually, know what, go do your own thing I'm going to..."

If anyone were to look back at where Castel was, it would appear that she had moved from her spot. Or had disappeared and died a horrible death. But either way, she was no longer at the inn's doorway, and nowhere in sight.

((Might as well add a bit of flavor rather than have an abrupt end for Castel's involvement.))

It gives me a reason to follow as well, getting the loot before he dies so I can give it to the orphans and widows of the men on that expedition so that they don't die without someone to provide for them. Also maybe to stab someone for being really immoral.
Actually, thinking about it, everyone ignoring Castel and going off to the caravan without saying anything would probably be also a good IC excuse for Castel to say "ah, screw them" and stay behind. How nice, I don't have to think about an excuse.

Well, only for some. For the moment, they only really seem concerned with Sheddan. They probably don't pose much threat to everyone else, especially Zamria and Castel, who left the inn around the same time and thus probably don't have the attention of the innkeeper.

I'm betting 3(+-1) turns. Turn 1, Zamira gets to the caravan. Turn 2, something creepy happens, Zamira fails a perception roll, and the suspense builds. Turn 3, some nightmarish horror murders her immediately.

Also, I like how everyone but Ferro ignored Castel. Expect sass from her.

"No, seriously, what's going on? What accident?"

Lol.

Castel slowly approached the inn again, feeling strangely that something was wrong with her coinpurse; but more importantly, she was curious about the fact that to heavily armed men just entered the tavern who looked suspiciously like guards. She slowly opened the door, and took in the sight, peeking in only her head.

"So... nobody died, that's great. Now, what's with these two men in here with the big armor?"

Take your time, man. I know how horrible essays are for one's writing desires.

I think it's the fault of those who decided to touch the blood of the guy who just exploded.
I think it's the fault of the random number gods.
In a way, it's my fault for the most part, for I suggested checking the body. But honestly, I don't really blame myself, because it's not like I can predict when people would get a 1/6 chance failure, much less thrice. I (and Castel) figured it would be better to get a preview of the witch's power prior to fighting... Ha ha, what a good joke. Now we get to experience it personally, which in a way is a preview! RIP.

Castel just blinks with a gaping mouth, seemingly in disbelief at what is happening. She quietly mutters to herself, before realizing the implications of what is happening. "What the fuck, was she planning on releasing some sort genocidal curse to kill half the population of Wickbreach? This... we... have to contain this... we weren't the only ones exposed..." Castel backs away from the others, knowing that she could do nothing to help them.

"I'm going to try and... stop others from leaving, to try and stop the spread here. I can't do anything here... you guys, stay alive?"

Leave the inn and try to stop anyone from leaving the area, explaining to them that they could potentially spread this curse to all of Wickbreach if they are affected, and would thus be responsible for countless deaths.

((FYI: If we end up with 3 party members dead and Castel survives, she probably will just leave after waiting a day or two so she can be reasonably certain she won't spread the curse. She's brave, but this is a bit absurd even for her.))

"Oh, while it may be senseless to us, I'm sure that witch has created some arbitrary justification for the violence she is engaging in, that we'll no doubt hear her monologue about before we kill her. Murderers, bandits, and other assorted violent criminals always do. Or she could just be borderline insane. I suppose the simple answer could work too..." The pretty lady trails off.

"Oh, by the way, we've been talking for so long, I haven't even introduced myself. How poor manners from me, my stepmother would be ashamed." The pretty lady says with a bit of sarcasm. "So, hello, my name is Castel Veiimar, daughter of the adventuring, 'roguish' count Ferdinian Veiimar, at your service." Castel tips her hat. "What do you all go by?"

"Perhaps. It just astounds me why they would come this far and flinch at the last moment at the first sign of danger, is all: I can understand if half of them were farmers, but those are actually very rare out here. If they are adventurers like us seeking the witch, then why come this far just to flinch at the first sign of death rather than stick behind and learn the enemy's ways, when they may face these exact methods later? If they're merchants, why come all this way to a known hazardous route just to fall back at the first unusual death they see, rather than look around for adventurers they could hire to protect them and then decide whether to carry on? I guess nobody took the dangers seriously, and are all heading home now?" The pretty lady asked curiously.

"Also, by the way, you were a doctor right? I'm not very skilled in dealing with dead bodies, but just a suggestion: you may want to check the body for any further unusual things before he is dragged off. I mean the exploded head is the obvious unusual thing, but there might be something else on him that shows the effects of the witch's power?" The lady offered.

((PS: Glass might want to also check the body. And Enemy Post, for that matter! There are so many intellectual characters in the first group, my god.))

"You know, big guy, you could get someone to put a cup beneath your helmet to catch some of the runoff, so you could drink it again." The pretty woman said, looking at the beer (presumably) dripping from Ferro's head.

She then looked around, and noticed the distinct lack of people near her besides the group.
"Wow, I wasn't aware half the people in this inn were spineless. I mean, it's not exactly like he was sick--unless there's some sickness that leads to heads exploding that I've never heard about--and half of us would have been exposed to his blood anyway... If we're going to die, we're all going to die, nothing running can do."

"Innkeeper, can I get some water in a bowl to wash myself with, or is there perhaps some source of water nearby where I could wash my face... and hat?"

The pretty woman blinks a couple of times, seemingly more shocked than traumatized. She wipes the blood off her face slowly with a (already quite bloody) cloth.

"Well... at least I didn't get to know him before he died. Wow, the witch can do that? That's just plain bull. Holy crap. Seriously, what? That's just wrong. So, so wrong."

She looks around the room for other people who witnessed the event. Which is, obviously, everyone.

"Someone... get a coroner, or someone to bury him. Whatever exists around here. And, really, before anyone goes checking his pockets, be sure-"

She sees Zamira going for the wallet.

"...Well, you could also just do that. Glad to know when I die I should make sure you're nowhere near me. For the love of the gods, at least do try to treat it as evidence rather than just money."

A pretty woman, with brown hair and piercing ruby red eyes, mostly hidden under a Cavalier hat, looks at the rather rude person who just brushed the person next to her aside. She rolls her eyes as she adjusts her hat, which had been dislocated from the sudden relocations of persons near her.

"Sir, while I can sympathize with being screwed over and needing a stiff drink, generally you'll want to be sober in order to provide the people who might get vengeance for you with accurate information. You know, so they are slightly less likely to die."

She pauses for a second.

"In addition... is any of that blood yours? If so, you'll probably first want to see a doctor or something. It would be terrible if you died from infection while recovering from a hangover."

She also looks over the huge man in metal armor who just walked up next to her and the bloodied man, with raised eyebrows. She stares particularly long at the closed helmet, wondering what kind of anti-social person is behind it. Then she looks back to the bloodied man.

((I think you all might be misinterpreting things. I'm pretty sure the paper in question is a blank piece of paper handed over by Silvia Asher, who recognized Ferro was mute, but initially did not know he was illiterate as well.

Also, Glass, just FYI: your chosen text color is almost invisible in the default theme. I suggest using a hex code for a slightly darker color: for example, this is color #87CEEB, including the number sign.))
