DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Farms stopped Farming.
« on: September 11, 2010, 05:29:05 pm »
So what is a good irrigation system to provide farms with water to keep it muddy? Also, can you make mud if the farm plot occupies the land or do i haft to deconstruct/reconstruct it.

I guess an idea I have would be having a flood gate at either end, open them up allowing somewhat pressurized water to flow through, close the gates and let it drain?  ???

I suck at planning things out  :-\

I never really got that excited over Microcline... Oh wait, THAT blue stuff.

Can I has sig this? Or is that too spoilerific for a sig?
Shouldn't think it's much of a spoiler, all it reveals is that there's something blue that isn't microcline. Could just as easily mean water.

Or cobaltite. Or kimberlite.

Or one of any number of gems.

Or Ice.
You rang?
Aww dang i wanted to do that for a long time...
Quote pyramid?

Should Elves be allowed inside the Fortress?

Are you a tree wood-banning hippie, or are you a dwarf?

Elves are NEVER allowed into the fortress. Steal their items, lock them outside to watch the massacre of their beautiful trees with a sea of MAGMA! you get bonus points for killing them too.

stupid elves...

Just as you posted I finally saw my doctor (who as I said has all the doctor labors enabled) go and diagnose the dude. The tardyness is a bit troublesome, but least it happened :)

and another question, They don't "move" the dwarfs to the designated hospital do they? They just treat whoever needs it whatever hole they crawled into?

I'm new to the whole new doctor thing. So right now I have an injured dwarf in the hospital who got some help, but I have another dwarf who laying in bed in the civilian housing district.

My question is how can i get my chief doctor to get him a diagnostics even when the doc has only the doctor labors active? Also my nurses seem to be completely useless :<

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Farms
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:35:50 am »
this is because of an argument with a friend: Is getting 6 8x8 farm plots down before the second migrant wave too much food/booze production? He thinks so, I think not.

Before: Your friend is right
After(perhaps a bit more after): You're right

having 2 8x8 plots can clear you well after the 2nd migrant wave. In my own novice opinion, I would suggest starting with 2 8x8, then add 1 8x8 after each wave until you hit 6...

On a side note: there is NEVER such thing as "Too much booze". You're not thinking very dwarf like.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Legendary Child

If a baby would become a legendary craft-whatever.

I'd put that bitch to work! And yes, in my fortress I support Child labor. Only thing holding me back is "A child dose as he pleases"

my fucking dwarven manure they do. If they can carry an item, pick, or weapon they can bet I'll put em to work! Damn free loaders...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Legendary Child
« on: September 10, 2010, 11:41:03 pm »
So while I'm planning my fortress out all decorative like and after slaughtering a few harassing cave Douc--Monsters, One of my children decided to seclude them self from society (The "secretive" fey mood). So he goes along and takes siege of my crafts-dwarf building (wasn't using it anyways). So he goes along and grabs something from my giant storage cave, and starts building Armok knows what.

Then BAM all of the sudden he makes a sweet legendary artifact and becomes a legendary craft's dwarf, and he hasn't matured yet!

Feast your eyes upon the lulz!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So I dunno if this is some sort of witty bug, or this kid in my world is completely psychotic (and a genius)

Anyone have any similar experiences?

P.S Bonus for me, I don't haft to train a craft-dwarf now! until the kid grows up...

Other Games / Re: PlaneHacked Minecraft Server: MOST STABLE (knock on trees)

Well obviously the server isn't dead, and people are connecting when others are not.

I HAD an idea to do some RPG type of game, but then I came to that realization.

So if people want to set up a get-together date and do something :P

Just an idea...

As in a bad way or a good way?

I have a noob question: How do the guys make those fountains or ice houses?

I cant seem to find a way to increase the height of the water...

I'm talking about the cyborg creepers. Ultra-rare, but they have a hugeass explosion that will kill you on peaceful (changing difficulty won't despawn) through a full diamond set of armor and full health at arrow range, and have twice as much health as you.

Sounds like a challenger has appeared...

I found my first iron ore! 4 pieces, just enough for a pick axe and a shovel. Also, goddamn that zombie sound comes as a shock when you're mining away deep underground, and one spawns nearby.

I wouldn't be too worried over a shovel. Sure you may find pockets of dirt/sand/gravel, but it int worth the iron until you have a surplus.

In my own advice, stick to stone and use the iron for other ores like gold (since stone cant mine gold).

I am concerned with the /home command though, so easily finding your way home defeats a lot of the danger.
Is that a warp back to predetermined location command?
if so it should be changed to /suicide in SMP if you're stuck =D

/suicide = loss of inventory items... /home saves those. XD i like the items i worked on getting

if you see something like my avatar, run for the hills.

Then would it be odd if i use them to help me mine? I mean sure they produce gunpowder, but I find it more fun the other way :D
