DF General Discussion / Re: PeridexisErrant's DF Starter Pack
« on: February 16, 2021, 08:29:39 pm »
What's the version number of the pack you downloaded, and what link did you get it from? My guess would be that it's checking the wrong place for updates, but I'm not sure how that could happen.

Thanks for your reply.
I am using the latest one from here: https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=7622

The version i am on is: 0.47.05-r01

I did notice however that Dwarf Mockup was being flagged in the last version as a false positive but this version does not flag my AV so that is something.

Hi all, just got the latest Starter pack and have noticed an odd problem.

I have it set to check for updates every launch and when it launches, it says there is an update to 0.44.12 -r08 which obviously is an old version.
Has anyone else got this problem, or is it an issue my end?

Other than that i am having no issues at all.

it seems a little odd that you cannot assign nobles from within DT but using the (n)obles screen is no problem.
From the perspective of the game's data structures, they are completely different things - toggling a labor is just setting an existing variable to 0 (off) or 1 (on), while assigning a noble involves creating new data structures (entity position assignments, history events, etc.) and setting up the proper cross-references between them.

It does make sense putting it that way.

Thank you.

Thank you for the replies!

By "in game", are you referring to the (n)obles screen or something else?

Sorry, yes it was on the (n)obles screen.

I don't believe DT is supposed to allow you to assign noble positions through it, just view the dorfs' suitability for those roles.
The difference between ordinary labor and nobility is that they're assigned through the nobility screen rather than the normal labor one, and there can generally only be a single dorf upholding each noble position (although the same dorf can hold multiple positions, so the book keeper/manager combination is common, to save on an office).

I guess that makes sense though i could not find anything in the manual suggesting that but i am new to DT.

I just looked through the roles and sorted them to find the most suitable dorf and then went to the (n)oble screen and assigned him (now to throw together an office for him!).

Thanks again!

Hi all!
I have just started using Dwarf Therapist and it is an incredibly useful tool.
However, i am trying to assign a dwarf as my bookkeeper unsuccessfully.

I have assigned him as bookkeeper in game to see if that made a difference but it did not, clicking on the role screen to assign him does not work, nothing happens when i click the box (though other roles do, just not the purple roles for any dwarf).

I do not have dfhack's autolabor running and have no trouble assigning the non-purple roles to any dwarf.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the replies guys!
In the end, i extracted the .zips to the pack's root folder as instructed (so i have two folders called toikkus and toikkus2).
Also, i extracted toikkus.zip sub folders into the packs (so into animals, dwarves and fort folders respectively) just in case that was the correct way.
I hope that doesn't cause problems!
I just need to jump in the game and see if they work correctly.
I can select them in the SoundSense GUI and play them fine (they are enabled by default) so i assume they will work but time will tell!

Thanks again!  :)

Hey all!
I have recently installed the Starter Pack (Lazy Newb Pack) version 43.05r11.
I have run soundsense and got the packs installed from the official site: http://df.zweistein.cz/soundsense/ but i notice there are 2 optional packs called toikkus.zip and toikkus2.zip.

It says to install them, simply extract into the packs folder.
Does this mean i should have two folders under packs, called "toikkus" and "toikkus2" containing sub folders in the case of "toikkus"? (which seem like they should be extracted into the existing folders called "animals" "dwarves" "fort") and just a list of files for "toikkus2".

toikkus2 has no folders at all, just a collection of sound clips, do these simply get extracted to the root of the packs folder so they are all listed outside the folders or should it remain in a folder called toikkus2?

It has been a long time since i last played DF and i have not used soundsense before and i want to make sure i have everything set up correctly for maximum immersion.

I apologise for any confusion, if i can clarify anything, leave a reply and i will try to elaborate.

Thank you for your time.

You're trying to apply logic to a game where it's possible to make a soap skyscraper.

Sigged...  ;D

Thanks again Toady for keeping me on my toes and making me nervous and excited of a new release every time I indulge!  ;D

Something makes me think I will be busy again for the next few days...   ;)

I am very interested in this.  I have a few Mongoose Traveller books and have been trying to get a game started for a while now (though very inexperienced with PnP RPGs).
Also, I have some writing experience on Vast Empire.
I will have a look through the characters and see what I can do.

@@@@@@==>,.,.+++U+\U\U\U\U\U

Bricks and arrows rained down on the dwarf invaders, cowering under
their massive metal shields.  “Keep moving!” shouted the sergeant.
Slowly, the dwarf warriors towed the giant screw-shaped ram up the
steep incline.  Davis watched in horror as the dwarf ahead of him
fell, brains dashed out by a falling rock.  At last they reached the
enemy wall.  Davis and the other dwarves manned their stations at the
siege engine.  The young dwarf wondered at the shoddy nature of the
human’s masonry.  It wouldn’t take more than a few minutes to breach
the castle.

The great drill sprung into life, sending chunks of brick and stone
flying into the air.  The men atop the wall disappeared, no doubt
preparing their last defense.  With a thundering crash, the wall fell.
As the dust cleared, Davis drew his short sword.  Arrayed against
them was a phalanx of spearmen, before which stood an evil hero in a
suit of black armor.

“Yield,” shouted the dwarf captain.  “You are beaten.”

“On the contrary, short stuff,” laughed the dark knight, “the battle
is just beginning.”
