Not to say that this isn't interesting, but it seems a bit trivial compared to the stuff he's working on. I'd like to see this implemented, but only after the current goals he has set for himself.

I think that dwarves shouldn't need to be legendary. I'd like to get bonuses for killing  my dwarves off, but maybe only legendaries leave behind an item (training migrants to legendary to get rid of them is annoying).

Also, dwarven atom smashers are an exploit, I'd like not to rely on those

In fact you could make a workshop that create *fake bag* filled with stone and unload it to another workshop to unfill it.

Placed at the mining area.
Transport workshop.
Input: 10 stone(20 30) of one kind, + bag backpack barrel whatever
Output Stone-filled container.

Placed near the mason or anyone who need rocks.
InputL Stone-filled container
Output: 10 stone 20-30 whatever.

Uh... I don't think that's currently possible in custom workshops.

Bluemetal can release hfs (demons), which are true killing machines.

The next best  metal (silver fer blunt, steel for others) is found at the surface.

So just dig very deep. Near the magmate sea.

But, depending on the trap you use, you have to deconstruct and reconstruct the trap, and the trap may not work in the first place.

Between that and that the crossbow bug has been fixed, I'd say it may be worthwhile to make the ballista.

What I do is the following:
7x5 floor space (plus the wall, making the total spaces 9x7)-smoothed-engraved.
If Bedroom: build a bed in a workshop that only your best carpenter has access to.
If Dining Room/Office/Throne Room: Metal (preferably >= value of native silver) table and chair, or 5 rock chairs and 5 rock tables, if you are short on charcoal/coke.

This should make the bedroom/throne room at LEAST Opulent or Grand (The one under Royal, which is what Monarchs require).

I don't know about a blue spine, but check out his "status" on the health-care screen. Here's one for a dwarf who is permenantely stuck in bed (well, has been stuck for almost 3 years with no improvement):
  • Ability to stand lost
  • Motor nerve damage
  • Sensory nerve damage
His wound (as far as I can tell after the fact) was just to his left leg. Plenty of crutches about, and my doctors have otherwise preformed admirably. But I suspect the "motor nerve damage" led to the permanent "ability to stand lost" with no recourse but magma.

Also, you may find that there is "no treatment scheduled", yet s/he retains the injury.

I am definitely running Dwarf Fortress.exe.

I did Load the Fort before starting Stonesense.
