Is there another alert that should be set? Or do I have to make my own?

DF Gameplay Questions / Soldiers Training at Snail's Pace
« on: December 15, 2010, 12:51:14 pm »
In my first foray into the new version of DF, I eventually built a squad of 5 dwarves, disabled all of their civilian labor, and gave them a barracks set to "sleep" and "train". I hadn't equipped them with any arms or armor yet, so I assumed they would be busy training wrestling. When I pop in to check on them, they do seem to be in the barracks doing "individual drills" or whatever it's called, but when I took a peek at their military skills a year later, I saw that they hadn't gone up a single rank in Wrestling, or any military skill, for that matter. I took a look at Dwarf Therapist and saw that, while they had a smattering of experience in wrestling, it was still 1/3 the amount needed to upgrade one "level" in the skill. Is there something in the squad or military menu that I missed? Has anyone else's dwarves behaved like this before?

DF Gameplay Questions / Making Magma Feasible
« on: December 15, 2010, 12:46:01 pm »
So I'm coming back to DF after a long hiatus, and I was pleased to learn that magma is available on pretty much every map. I was saddened to learn, however, that this magma is usually about 100 layers down in the earth, too far from my fortress sites to be of much use. Climbing up and down 100 z levels takes a lot of time for any dwarf.

I saw the "pistoning" method for raising magma on the wiki, but I'm not very familiar with cave-in mechanics and don't trust my skills to handle a project of that size without collapsing the whole thing halfway through. Also, I'm not certain how I'm supposed to "catch" the magma once it's pushed upwards by the collapsing piston. The only alternative I can think of is to pump the magma up, but I would probably need to cover the surface with windmills to get enough power. Are there any other methods to make magma workable again?

DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Nist Akath - The Complete Story

Well, I don't mind if it's finished. I'm just wondering if anyone has the last version of it uploaded somewhere, because I remember having it at one point and enjoying the heck out of it.

Hey, does that pdf of compiled posts that's linked on the first post still exist? I remember having it a long time ago, but both links are now broken, and I was wondering if it could still be found somewhere.

Is there currently a function to group dwarves in collapsible lists by custom profession? I used to use the old Dwarf Manager, and DT seems to have a slightly different GUI.
Ha, nevermind. Found it. "List by:", dur.

Registered just now specifically to say thankyou to you and your missus chmod! Much as the new DF is such fun it's just not the same without therapist taking the massive burden of organising dorfs! May your beards grow ever longer and be free of dust and lint!
Tell me about it! I haven't really started playing DF2010 yet, because I can't even begin to organize my dwarves properly without Therapist.

So are there any plans to update DM for DF2010 soon? I've been using Dwarf Manager since I started playing DF, and since the new version release, I feel completely impotent.
