I call death by NEXT winter!

Hey guys, I've been thinking, since there's long swathes of tie without really notable stuff, should I take a different approach to this, starting fresh with a new world, or continue as is? I realized a problem may be that all the disparate elf entities are fighting with eachother  due to thier inability to communicate.

Changes would include
Fully diversifying the "elves" with separate creatures, including restoring the vanilla elves as allies (ensuring a steady stream of merchants to kill if nobody else,) as...
- Native Elves (vanilla)
- Insurgent Elves (elves who are on the side of the invasion but native to the region)
- Outland Elves (elves who arrived as part of the invasion and still adherent fully to elven ways)
- Elven Outcasts (elves who've wholly given up on the ways of elf-kind due to being raised by other cultures or wronged by thier own in some manner; treated as slaves and sent into battle by the invaders)
- High Elves (As expected, these fucknuggets are leading the invasion. They support slavery and can make metal weaponry including steel. They think themselves as "Higher" because they're willing to make fuller use of thier enemies' pillaged lands, seeing the use of wood from human and dwarf buildings has long since passed on and thus free to use to make new weapons and armor, in addition to wholeheartedly embracing the use of scavenged weaponry.)
In effect, making a minimod built around the concept of a given region being invaded by elves from elsewhere.

Making all animal men fearless and [CRAZED] to encourage them to attack residents, as I plan to settle a savage biome
Jacking up werebeast count
Including necromancers in gen parameters (in small numbers for a possible chance of zombies.)

I can start a new thread as well if you guys would like.

I vote starting fresh with a new world.

I know I'm late on this, but here is a Christmas song for Blockedlance

A Blockedlance Christmas

It's Christmas Eve and Urist drops her fists around the nation
"I want some agricultural collectivization!"
There's nothing stirring in the fortress, it's quiet as quiet all night

Tomorrow if we're lucky, all the workers will unite
'Cos there's a elf skull up on the Christmas tree
A hammer for you and an battle ax for me
Good will to Dwarves, lets celebrate
By purging all the enemies of Urist!

Tomorrow I will hold you tight and kiss you my sweet darling
I'll give you chocolate Mogror's and a Christmas candy Urist
We'll play with Christmas toys wearing festive steel hats.
And hope for quick painless deaths.

'Cos there's a elf skull up on the Christmas tree
A hammer for you and an battle ax for me
Good will to all Dwarves, lets celebrate
By purging all the enemies of Urist!

After dinner we'll have lots of fun with Christmas games and laughs
We'll read some vellum books by Urist, Mogror and by Eagle
What Christmas cheer we'll have, oh yes, we'll never have a cheerier
And we'll send Khamerite scum to worth to death out in the above ground.

A elf skull up on the Christmas tree
A hammer for you and an battle ax for me
Good will to all dwarves, lets celebrate
By purging all the enemies of Urist!

Come join us
Bu purging all of the enemies of Urist!

Butcher it, make armor out of its scales, refrigerate the meat and sell the bones to a museum.

The scales, THEY ARE TOO THICK!

Is the carpenter part of the military?  I don't think they do normal civilian tasks if they are.

Beyond that, I'm totally out of ideas.

Nope, he's remained civilian the whole time we embarked.

Punch your computer and see if he works then.

I did, all that came out was a purple flash and the next thing I knew I was lying on the ground with a dead Dragon in my bed.

Did you change the workshop profile to disable certain skill levels or dwarves?

I've never dealt with the workshop profile, so I left it alone for the most of the time.

Oh man we really need to think about this.

Is this a modded game?  Maybe something got messed up in the raws.

Is he wounded?  He might not be able to pick up anything.

Vanilla all the way.

No medical records of injuries, and he isn't wounded at all.

Yes, he was from the embark but has yet to his job at all.
He did do his job once or not?

Just once, to build a few beds, then suddenly gave up.

Is the carpenter's workshop built in such a way that it obstructs pathing?

Is the material that the workshop is made out of forbidden?

Is the labor actually set properly?  An immigrant may be called Carpenter but might not have the labor set.

No, it does not obstruct the area around it.

Microcline ain't forbidden on this end.

Yes, he was from the embark but has yet to his job at all.

Is the task Build Animal Trap?  Carpenters don't do that.  Trappers do.

They don't build anything else either.
