Why do people use hamachi for this game? Is it more stable or something?

Get the demo, I say. It is too much arcade for my taste. Really all you do is 1) encase water and lava so it can't get out and 2) train warriors to kill the rare, rare invader and 3) direct dwarves towards the good loot. All these 3 things can be done in one to three clicks.

It's in a "beta" version you can download through impulse. It's fairly useless, as you can't save, and you can only play against 1 AI at a time (which seem to be stuck on the worst imaginable difficulty setting).

I'm reading this as "we hired people for this project, and if it did as well as we hoped, we would keep them around for our next big project".  Probably the people who were laid off knew that their contracts would be an unknown variable.

Pretty much. They projected that the revenue stream from Elemental would be enough to pay for a second team working on another game. Those are the people now being let go.

Then you've clearly not used enough magma.

By the way, I definitely agree that Demigod received less than ample support. Really, it was two demigods and bugfixes and some itembalancing. I really hope they don't give Elemental the Demigod treatment (although, so far multiplayer is about as playable as it was in Demigod at release - foreshadowed?).

Edit: This link will expire in time, but if you click it like today up to a week from now, you should see a poll named "How do you like Elemental?"

In beta there was a limit on how many enchantments you could cast. I don't know if that still applies.

Alrighty... that would explain why I never found any elementium... by the way, the ATI update tonight ( 10.8 ) fixed the regular memory leak crash I had almost precisely one hour into every game. So yay.

So there's definitely some synergy across the research trees there.

Edit: Also, it seems like offspring from the dynasty have some in-combat mana-regen if their parents were casters. I got a few with +1 mana per combat turn, and I gained a girl with +2 per turn through a marriage with another faction. Maybe you can breed for that. I also noticed when I married a researcher that some of my kids ended up with the research bonus as well.

A week should be just enough time to find some elusive elementium!

Food doesn't get produced like other materials. It's a steady supply. You build one farm, you have 5 food(s) to supply 5 huts with.

Food builds huts or houses or whatever they're called (it can also build markets). Houses and such increase the population potential in a city. Additional levels in the city also increase the potential population cap. To increase how fast the population grows, you need buildings with prestige. Standard is 1 increase in population per turn.

I don't think cities grow on their own, house-spacing-wise. Houses and the level of the city determine how many can live there, then you have the actual population increase by prestige. If you don't build any houses in a city it will stay insignificant, I think.
Edit: There's nothing stopping you from deleting houses once your city has leveled up, though. But that's practically an exploit at this point.

I really like the food mechanic, it's the one thing I think they got more or less right. It's the only thing limiting cities, as you said. Edit: That ties into the whole specialization thing. If you can only upgrade so many cities, it becomes really important which ones you choose. It also means you can't just spam cities to get influence all over the map (Ai did that in beta3 it was lol)

Damn, must be annoying having people step on them all the time.

Better steer clear of the kitchen, by the way.

Apparently I was mistaken with what caravans do. The roads they produce don't up the gildar production, but rather the food production (so if you get a town with food production, build roads between that and every other city).

I disagree about the city customization, by the way. In my opinion, cities after level 2 become almost completely dependant on what world resources they have in their proximity, and what buildings they have. This combined with the bonuses for levelling up a city makes it very important to specialize your cities.

Oh yeah, I found out what sions were. It's a unit (possibly for empire only) with 25 health, 1 health per combat turn regen, immunity to offensive spells, a usable sprint ability (seems broken) and a usable  ability that deals 3 times the normal damage when they attack. They have no defense whatsoever, and their passive attack is quite low (9). It costs only gold to produce.

Yeah, the game needs a lot more content. Definitely stay away from the purchase button for now. Btw, are like ALL the quests broken or something? I keep ending up in dead ends in almost every single quest. The only quest I got to work was the one where you find a dragon egg, and even that was bugged (I had to return the egg with the same guy that started the quest).

Edit again: Has ANYONE found elementium? I haven't seen a single node in any game I've played.
