DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No Sea Creatures

It's currently my Fortress' goal to have a Giant Sperm Whale show up and subsequently be captured, for no other reason than to say I have one.

Can or can't zombies and husks swim, this is the question.

All undead become amphibious, so when the zombie giant sperm whale bursts out of the sea, you know.

Speaking of Giant Sperm Whales, just how common / hard to find are Giant Sperm Whales? I've have a dream that one day I will find one and keep it as a pet within my fort somehow.

Oh christ... It just turned out to be a massive brain fart... I had embarked using the Mayday tileset's embark settings, so I was convinced I had fuel. Turns out that, surprise surprise, I didn't have fuel...

I've built a smelter in my fort, yet when I attempt to smelt an ore, all the options are red. I have a bunch of ore in my fort and a bunch of fuel. Anyone offer any options as to what's going on?

A couple of little things that I can't quite figure out.

How can I check combat logs in Dwarf Fortress mode?

And how can I check exactly what each member of my military has equipped?

Have more medical jobs on more dwarves. The individual jobs will take longer, but you'll gain time from having any free dwarf being able to come to the hospital.

You overestimate my ability to have dealt with that siege effectively... at the end of the siege, all I had left was one dwarf who could actually do anything useful, everyone else was in the hospital, dying in a forgotten corner of the map, already dead, or they were a child filled with rage, tantruming in various blood coated hallways like some sort of Lord Of The Flies insanity.

But yes, your tip is duly noted for my next attempt.

Well, that was my first fort ever. Emphasis on the "was".

90 fort population, 60 of which were children. My armour was basically leather because I had yet to get an effective metal industry up.

Lo and behold, my first siege comes and I deal with it terribly. Many casualties later and the invasion is valiantly thwarted, though at a cost.

End result? many, many, many dwarven children throwing huge tantrums that lead to a complete bloodbath, my soldiers are in the hospital being cared for by one mildly trained doctor while just a level above, children cause bloody mayhem.

I think it's time that I call this fortress quits and put what little knowledge I gained from this experience into my next, hopefully better ran, fort...

I can't even remember... It's like trying to remember your first breath. Dorf Fort has been a part of my life for too long for me to be able to pick out the moment I found it.

Oh, what the actual fuck.

First migrant wave - five. Nice easy start.

Second migrant wave - seven. Ok, that's fine.

Third migrant wave - sixty. Fuckin' 60, of which, the majority are children or useless. Gah.

Well, I just realised that children can get strange moods, I've now got a fat dwarven girl who "appreciates natural beauty" currently in the process of violently contorting the bones of a yak and a puppy into some form of jewellery. Somehow this is a freakier mental image that a dwarven man doing the same thing.

I had just embarked on a new fortress and, as it was the middle of winter, the rivers were frozen over and all the ground was covered in snow. Once spring arrived, the snow melted and the rivers returned to normal. The issue came with the placement of my wagon upon embarking directly on the currently frozen river, due to the snow covering the frozen river I was completely unaware that there even was a river below me and pretty much exactly when spring arrived, everything melted, leaving my still fully stocked wagon to fall into the river.

I'm unsure how to properly get the image up,but what you see here is an eight year old girl infected with a Turtle Monster curse, who fought of a minotaur and remained unscathed. She is essentially, the fifth Ninja Turtle.

Is there a way to eat things like Wild Strawberries, other plants, etc, in adventure mode in the new version?
