I have Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, and the Indians. Was there anyone else in N.A. (Or S.A.) at the time?

Btw, depending on what time period you're thinking of, you forgot about the Dutch (Netherlands). They owned New York/New Jersey for a while, 'til the bastards in Britain came along. If you want some more diversity, you could add that in...

Also, if you have Iceland on that map, that was owned by Norway. You could probably pretend that they owned Greenland, too :P.

So... How do you make this work?

I keep getting a 'couldn't find suitable process' message. I've installed it to a seperate directory, then I tried to install it in the actual DF folder. Still not working...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: how the hell do you play this mode?

As a, just now emerging from newb-dom, slightly good player, the walk-through tutorials were great for me. Just make sure to watch the Video Tutorials (on of the stickies) for 2010 before you go through the walkthrough, because they basically explain everything new in 2010. Then just follow along with the walk-through tutorials for your first game. After that, try doing it on your own. Don't worry, it'll get easier ;).

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Unexpected Behaviour: Goblin Allies?

When you reclaim a fort, all monsters that were on the map when your fort fell will be friendly. I know this works with goblins, but I dunno about HFS or any of the bigger monsters, though.

This is kinda irritating. My furnace operators won't operate my wood furnace. I've set up their jobs to operate it, I even tried adding all the jobs on the list, but they keep idling for some reason. I've got tons of wood, and there's no other jobs for them to be doing (I'm not dumping and I turned off their hauling jobs). Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

There are many other ways of farming than just draining a lake. Create a channel below the lake (or whatever water source you have) and divert the water to the area you want to farm. Before letting the water flow out, build a floodgate. Open it, let the water flow through your farming area, then close it. The water will evaporate.

Oooooooh, you build the flood gate before you channel the water. Woops :p. Oh well, I'll do that with my next fort. Guess I'll just have to abandon this one.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Lake Drain...

I'm not really sure. It's just a body of water on my map, but it's not connected to the edge. I've been able to drain these things before, it's just that this one doesn't drain fast enough before the rain comes, and it's the only body of water on my map. So, is there any way to speed up the process?

DF Gameplay Questions / Lake Drain...

I've been at this lake forever. It refuses to drain all the way because it's constantly raining. My dwarves finally starved to death because the farming patch was under water. Is there any way to fix this problem? Will adding extra channels help? Or am I jsut ognna have to find a new embark point?
