Axes aren't that hard to make, really. You can make a nice looking axe from a big ball peen hammer, though that's not always desirable. Even from bar stock, axes aren't a fraction as difficult to make as swords, the hardest thing is probably keeping the eye from warping, and you can use a metal spike or whatever else for that, there's plenty of axe eye hole tools out there. You would only get into high pricing for an axe if it had engravings or something like that on it, like their hatchet does. If I made an axe, I would probably charge ~100 for just the base axe, and 100 dollars more at most to decorate it.
100 bucks for just an axe seems like a lot, but you have to remember that there will be a lot of stuff done to it that store bought axes don't have, the main thing being tempering. Hardware store axes are machined from a slab of steel, while a hand forged one will be able to stand up to a lot more.

Also if you really want to, you can apparently purchase forges online... Sounds like a nice hobby.
Heheh, purchasing a forge. My current setup is an old charcoal grill filled with lump charcoal, and instead of a classical bellows or even an automatic forge blower, I use a hairdryer. A little messy, but it works. The charcoal grill was probably 15 dollars, and I got the lump charcoal at 8 dollars a bag from a hardware store. Forges are easy, it's anvils that are pricey.

This reminds me of DF a lot, it's from UO. I often listen to it while playing fortress mode

DF General Discussion / Re: How did Toady generate the languages

I emailed him this and asked him this once, if I remember, he said he randomly generated them, and he had make it so it wouldn't generate words like shit and coca cola.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Repairing outlaw status?
« on: April 24, 2007, 08:46:00 am »
I've realized a way to repair outlaw status. But it's probably a bug, and using it would be exploiting. But who cares?

What you need to do:
Go to a new town, and press escape and (hopefully) it will say "Retire or Rest a while as a peasant" as if you weren't in a place that wanted you dead. It did this for me. Select that, then select that character again and go back into the game. If it works for you like it did me, all things are forgotten. If it doesn't work, then it must've been a fluke. Also, sorry for necromancy.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: most embarrassing death
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:06:00 am »
I had trained a legendary swordsman up, he was godlike. He could run through ruins destroying everything in his path. His name was Gisep Crowknife. One fateful day, I decided I'd take out that kobold cave, alone. I had ran through every kobold in my path, laughing like a madman I threw their dismembered bodyparts at whomever else approached me. Then, a hail of arrows rained down upon my head. I dodged and blocked most of them, but one hit me in the leg. No big deal, it caused little damage. I ripped it out and threw it at one of those elite bowmen shooting at me. That kobold was shot and killed. Then... an arrow struck me in the chest and pierced my heart. Death was near, and I knew it. I pulled that arrow out, and was about to throw it to the other bowman when... A regular kobold bowman snuck up on me and shot and killed me from behind.

The man that slew hoardes of undead, killed giants like they were rats, and could wipe out towns like stomping on roaches, was killed by a lowly kobold.
Gisep Crowknife the Youthful Copper Roses of Hoisting, you will be missed.

We need proper use of daggers, I say.

Also, if any non european weapons are added into the vanilla game I'll be pissed, I don't like genres crossing, thank you.

The trademusic from horizons always makes me think of dwarf fortress. I've often listened to it while playing DF. Here are some of the songs:

Eyes in the garden

Ask her

Nottingham Morning

There are more in the directory those are in.
