That... I'm going to have to figure out how to let all metals be usable now....
and oh god bedrock... a warhammer with a wt of...
Code: [Select]
400cm^3*200000g/cm^3=80,000,000g is about... oh dear god, that's EIGHTY EIGHT TONS.

Edit: silver hammers are 46 tons. Iron are 3 tons. O_o

200000 isn't slade's density in g/cm^3, it's the RAW density, which is density in g/mm^3.
Since 1cm^3=1000mm^3, the mass of 1cm^3 of slade is 200g (that volume of silver would be 10.49g and of iron would be 7.85g).

So a slade hammer is 80 kilograms, a silver hammer 4.196 kg, and iron hammer 2.952 kg.
Oh dag, yo.  Math pwn.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Some times the game is to easy

They're all too mentally and emotionally exhausted from the challenges and frustrations of playing dorf fort to have any energy left for berating each other.  An alternative theory is that since this is a hard game to crack and new player recruitment is a challenge because of it, we all come in here with the understanding that "anyone else with the patience and determination to get this far has earned my respect".  OR, as was just suggested to me, think of this like a support group for the traumatic experience that is learning this game.  "but dwarf fortress only hurts me because I love it...  You wouldn't understand..."  *sobs*

I finally figured out how wild animals keep getting loose...  trading them at the depot is bugged; as soon as a dwarf grabs their cage, the critter is set loose.

Mildly annoying with unicorns; genuine Fun with cave crocs, herds of elk birds, and giant rats.

you can stop this from happening by choosing the animals you want to trade from the pets list instead of from the "all" list (or any other list for that matter).  I forget how I found this out, but it works fine for me this way.

Aww shucks fellas, we ALL know that the real problem with *insert politically affiliated noun* is basic human nature!  Even though an individual can go against it, people by nature are not beasts of fairness and honor and justice and sunshine rainbow goodness for all.  I predict turmoil for an eternity!  Try to carve out a nice life and hope you don't get noticed by big brother!  37!

I've gotta say, this is the most interesting thing I've read in a forum game section in a long time.  I just wanted to say keep this stuff up!  MY ENTERTAINMENT DEPENDS ON IT! *gasp!*

you must construct more pylons

7/10

I don't know what that is from, but it reminds me of a goblin on a jabberer/elk bird, so it makes me happy.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: could not find path problem

Nah, I appreciate the help though.  Double checked all of those things, but nothin'.  They just sit there, in my food stockpile, the very food stockpile they're trying to eat from even.  I can't make them move with burrows, I can make them move with construction, but then they just stay glued to the tile they've moved to.  They (four of them, all stuck on EAT now)are all now starving to death.  The worst part is, three of them are legendary in their trades, and I don't have a lot of spare dwarves.  I made one o' them evil worlds to embark on, and have mined into two cavern layers.  It's pretty rough on my population.

DF Gameplay Questions / could not find path problem
« on: August 30, 2010, 03:10:15 am »
H'ok so, My fortress has very recently (after 6 years)developed an issue.  I get unending spam from multiple dwarves, be they attempting to eat or drink or equip gear, where I see "urist mclost cancels _____:  cannot find path".  I can't figure out what's preventing all of them from doing their seemingly unrelated tasks.  They have clear routes to everywhere on the map, and as far as I can see there is no hidden cache of junk that they're all trying to get to but can't due to magma or it being underwater or somesuch.  I would just shut off job cancellation warnings but, y'know, I kind of like knowing when someone's running from a herd of cave beasts that need to have justice visited upon their miserable, stinking cave-heads.  I don't expect that this is an issue you'll be able to help with too much without being able to see my fort, but I was hoping that some of you have had this issue as well, and could tell me how/if you resolved it.  If there's a post on this already, I couldn't find it in the search, and the wiki didn't turn up anything immediately either.  I searched under "could not find path" and screened the results, but nothing seemed especially relevant.  So, sorry if this is a really dumb question, I'm still only at adequate skill level for fortcrafting and all my social skills are stuck at dabbling.

*edit;  after some further experimentation, I've found that the dwarves generating the issues won't move to do anything, even in a squad with a station command.  It is as though they've been stricken with rapid onset dwarven retardation, which just raises further questions for me.*

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bolt assigning bugged?
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:28:41 pm »
Dag.  I have six archery targets up in my barracks tower, but I can only keep one of them active for training if I have any of them active at all.  Otherwise, they exhaust their supply almost instantly.  I'm not just being stingy, either;  with everyone who can make them cranking out bolts, two active targets with an entire squad of marksdwarves exhausts my supply faster than they can refill it.  I'm no veteran by any means, but I solve the problem by only keeping the one target active, and hoarding up various beasts for target practice in my shooting gallery.

I'm sort of wondering about that, too.  I see them occasionally leave their posts at the top of my tower to go get more bolts, but it seems like more often than not they just sit there and wait, or worse, try to *shudder*melee.
As far as the bolts go, someone in another thread a while back suggested forbidding the bolts you want to save until you want them to use them, but I think that would be a bit too inconvenient.  I don't know about you, but I usually don't have a whole lot of time to shuffle around and trick dwarves into picking a certain ammo while a FB eats all my woodcutters.  Also, if they carry a quiver full of forbidden bolts, I would imagine they might just stop shooting completely until you free them up again.
