DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Releasing Hazardous Creatures?
« on: April 29, 2010, 09:27:36 pm »
I've made a room where all my new recruits are waiting for a captured Troll to be released. I'm going to draft the survivors into the real military and let the injured rot but the dwarf doesn't want to release the troll (by unassigning it from the cage) because there is not another cage available? Previously there were available cages, and I was disappointed to see that the dwarf just moved the troll from cage to cage and put the troll somewhere else.

I want to release the troll. So I can have fun.

How ;_;

Spears take a strangely agonizing amount of time to directly kill someone, so I decide to pick up one of the maces of my previous victims and beat the unconscious ones to death with it.

I pick up the mace. It's just there.

I drop the spear, I automatically equip the shield as a weapon.

I drop the shield, I don't equip anything.

I try 'wear'. There is nothing to wear.

I 'interact' with the mace. There are no ways I can interact with it.

Uhhh I'm sorry if this may be a dumb question but I can't even find a button to actually equip a weapon manually. Sorry.

How'd you make that really cool axe emblem on the floor? What's it made out of?

It's a polar bear. You were on a glacier. You got the bug where the entire glacier melts.

At least I think..

Press l to look around and get familiar so you can see what those tiles represent.

I deal with elite bowmen by sneaking around the fortress for hours, throwing rocks from safe corners. Then if they drop their bow, or fall down, I charge into the open and cleave them dishonorably.

I was also gangbanged by children and peasants once. Damn children.

Well, I swore never to bring any elves with me, when I found out they wore thongs. Although that was not the reason I avoided them. How I found out they wore thongs was because one pounced on a cyclops, and the cyclops was grabbing her thong.

So I like, peacefully left them to their action and plundered some other cave.

Share your stories of crappy or hilarious battles.

Why would the Crazy Council dare to vandalize a sacred place like Wildshaft?! This is blasphemy!

My adventurer's last name was, I think, Cakeromance.

I wanted to train some adventurers before exploring my old fortress, so my first was a Proficient swordsman.

I gathered up some swords men (and a drunk for comic relief (which sadly, never did anything funny)). The mayor reported a troublesome minotaur we should slay. Turns out the minotaur lives like, three to four towns away. How could the mayor consider it a problem? Oh well, do what he says.

The forest between the town and the cave were lush, and a healthy forest means healthy monsters. A pack of wolves, led by a one called Syrupsteel, ambushed us. Casualties were light, and we went on our way.

We found the place, and finding that upsidedown triangle took one day. We entered during the night, descending the creaking steps of the Dark-Portal Cave. It was very dark, and the poor drunk got disconnected with the group. We had to save him, but I hesitated due to the minotaur's messages of ownage. We left the cave, drunkless.

The next day, I replaced the drunk with a much more experienced swordsman. We were 4, and easily decapitated a ratman that came in our way. We descended the same steps, memories of the drunk's screams echoing. Majority of the dark cave was explored, before I spotted an ominous blood trail. I followed it and hit a dead end, with a dismembered arm on the floor. My group was far behind. I started looking for them, but I was informed of their fate by the sounds of minotaur ownage. I entered the wide room across the corridor with a dead end, and it was decorated with messy gore. I took another step forward, and the minotaur emerged from the darkness.

"I am Cish Ringloved!" he proudly shouted. He also muttered some things I forgot, about slayer of humans or something.

I fearlessly charged forward, firmly gripping my sword. Before he could even strike, I impaled him through the chest. He walked back slowly, surprised by his sudden defeat. The sword was still in his heart, as I failed to pull it out. He fell back with a thud, defeated by a single strike.

Of course, I exaggerated these accounts for the sake of my swordsman, who did stab him in the chest and kill him in one hit, but the minotaur was severely injured during the previous battle.

He retired, traumatized by the violent (and smashing) death of his comrades.

He was recruited by a later adventurer, and they both ventured to the ol' Flysteel, the great halls with prosperous cave farms. The foolish adventurer who had recruited him pulled the wrong levers at the wrong time, and they both unfortunately drowned in the irrigation systems of Flysteel.
