DF Suggestions / Re: Cannibalism
« on: January 24, 2010, 09:38:43 pm »
There's a bloat on the list with a status log of "[DWARF] is waiting for someone to die, so they can eat".

Running through my Dwarfs relationships, I keep seeing a Mr."Cobosoa Ransackcactus the Good Troubles" - A Tyrannosaurus. He evidently attacked their first Mountain Hall in the first couple years and devoured the leader. He evidently made quite an impression.

My Dwarfs are worshipping him as a God.

DF General Discussion / Re: Scariest Historical figures
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:35:24 pm »
I just genned a world with a massive (albeit slightly less pyschotic) orc civ. They basically swallowed up every other evil civ near them, including a good 3/4 of the world's goblins and hobgoblins, and their armies are basically massive blobs that wipe out EVERYTHING. There was a human kingdom with like, 8 cities (not towns, CITIES) and the orcs completely wiped them out in less than a decade of fighting. Their armies are always close to 300 strong of orcs, plus whatever other evil little bastards they've picked up. I'm positive they're almost at the population cap limit. In short, they're a massive, unstoppable horde.

Until they met Etamaturob Treatyplans, a chaos dwarf. The first battle between the orcs and CDs, 57/60 of the CDs die. Etamaturob manages to rout some 80 orcs by himself. No big deal, right? Seen it before. Etamaturob is the only defender the CDs have left.

But the "battles" page keeps going on.

They attack the CD fortress seven or eight times, outnumbering him 40 or 50 to one, and they keep losing. And then I see the absolute best thing ever:

He counterattacks.

This one crazy asshole Chaos Dwarf sallies forth out of the smoking ruin of his home, and starts attacking orc fortresses. And winning. The war ended with the orcs offering peace. I laughed.

On further inspection of his historical figure page, after he won the war, he evidently spent his golden years murdering anyone who dared immigrate to his home (" In 176, Letol Halftree settled in Warfungus. In 176, Letol Halftree was murdered by Etamaturob Treatyplans. In 177, Udib Greentomb settled in Warfungus. In 177, Udib Greentomb was murdered by Etamaturob Treatyplans" And so on).

DF Bug Reports / Re: [40d] Cannibal Dwarf?
« on: April 30, 2009, 02:46:47 am »
I edited a bit of the [DOMESTIC] raw (cheaper cows), but I stayed out of [STANDARD] entirely.
Too many memories of trying to make stronger dwarves and them ending up with no lungs.

On further inspection, there's some dwarf meat in a stockpile barrel, but no one's eating it.

DF Bug Reports / [40d] Cannibal Dwarf?
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:08:13 am »
So, uh, I had a bit of a weird bug in my new game. Late into the second year, I get a message one of my dwarfs has died. He had been a strict food hauler, so I started  checking around the kitchen area. I looked around, and...well:

There was only one other dwarf near the butcher's, and when I looked him up:

They left all the dwarf-meaty bits to rot and didn't tan the skin. So, uh, any idea what's going on?

They're actually lightweights if you hang back and toss arrows at them. Break or mangle a few limbs and they're fairly useless. Get close and their web misses you.

It gives you some extra stat attributes "Ultra-Mighty, Very Agile, etc", but no actual advancement.

Arrow through head.

I had to leave it in to keep playing, too, since pulling it out immediately killed me.

Stock up on Hammer/Macemen buddies? That's about it. The only thing wrestlers can really do to Undead is break limbs...which won't stop them from flopping around and biting out your throat.

I wonder why I'm not getting any migrants at "Anusrape the Pain of Strangers"

Just loaded up the new version and when I glanced at the screen I noticed it was at the Dwarf Hall of "The Large Spears of Taxing"

I imagine their IRS is slightly more...demanding. Painfully so.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: CAGE MATCH! Place your bets!

quote:
I wish I could get some giant naked moledogs or giant rats or something... those would make for a good fight!

My fortress is packed with moledogs. I've had 13 or so attack and get caged in the past year.

As such, I can strongly suggest against using them in arenas. It's just no fun. I had a 4 on 6 match against goblins (2 sword, 1 spear, 2 hammer, 1 master thief), and the "fight" was barely around six seconds. The cages released, the goblins huddled together, and then...the moledogs were UPON them.. Literally. Moledog dogpile. Final count was six dead goblins to no moledog casualties.

"Alright guys, we're an ambitious young squad with everything to prove. Now, how are we going to kill that troll?"
"Ooh! Ooh! Attack en masse on the single-block wide bridge over the chasm!"

Seriously, do you know how annoying it is to lose eight soldiers by them dodging from an attack off into nothing? You'd think a group that included a Swordmaster and Elite Wrestler would know not to strafe into oblivion.

Now, the troubling thing about this image is that I have no cows in this fortress, and none of my others have had Harpies

So apparently this guy justs thinks cows are awesome.

The other thing to remember is that we're talking about dwarves here. They're only about half the size of a human being. Sure, a racoon  may be the same size as a cat to us, but to a dwarf, it goes up to their knees. Deers may not hunt you down and tear your throat out, but I'd bet you'd avoid it if it was the size of a moose.

Actually dangerous creatures like wolves or elephants are huge to Dwarves. I'd run my ass off if I saw horse-sized wolf. You would too.
