DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: April 03, 2011, 02:01:51 am »
Well Blerg. My All-cavern, all the time fort was going swimmingly. I tapped into magma and started a glass industry, defeated a giant one-eyed quail with only 1 casualty, walled off about half the cavern with a perimeter fence (up to 5 Z-levels high) and had just finally gotten some anvils from the caravan after 3 years. So I could finally start metal production. Population was 54 and I had escaped two very close brushes with tantrums.

And the game crashed.
It was right after I loaded a save. I tried a couple times. It kept crashing after 30 seconds or so. Weak. That fort had been my biggest triumph. From 7 unskilled axedwarves with no supplies scratching out a meager living amongst the zombies; To a thriving underground bastion of dwarven might and sock exportation. Sad day. Maybe I'll abandon and reclaim.

Could draw them both fighting to the death, kaiju style. seems to be less entries this round :( Imma get around to finishing my skunk at some point in the indeterminate future, haven't had much time lately. He'll be late, but oh well.

Be sure you're not puttin' the tree on adamantine or whatever. The Sky people humans might decide to burn it.

Even hardened space marines wouldn't stand a chance in the DF 'verse. I'd give em 5 minute, tops before they got pincushioned by bolts made of slaughtered puppies, captured, thrown naked into a kitten filled pit, and then forced to fight a crazed, axe-wielding drunkard. That's really their best-case scenario, too.

Tree is looking great, don't give up.

hmmmm, engraver, nice safe engraver.

Great story, thus far.

Posting to follow.
I'd love to get Dorf'd, if possible. Engraver or military preferably.

Thankee

I've just started a fortress in a cavern. My plan is to never go up to the surface. I got there through a cave on the embark site. I hadn't intended to start a fortress on this embark at all, I was just going to kill Zombies for a while. As such, none of my dwarfs have any non-combat skills and I didn't bring a pick. But my dwarfs are all badass (there's 4 pages of deceased zombies on the units screen already) so I'm hoping they can pull it off through shear testicular strength.

I've taken one dwarf out of the squad to start chopping mushrooms and building beds, as they all have unhappy thoughts from sleeping in the dirt. Now he's extra unhappy for being taken off duty. So we'll see how it goes.

Is the giant tree built over the top of the largest deposit of adamantine available?

Following.

I tried fiddling around with some transparency, it was blah. would have been great if I had planned it from the start, couldn't make it work as an afterthought. My hat is off to anyone who does it.

Well mine definitely doesn't look like glass. more like....rock or something. I suppose i could argue it's porcelain or fine china :D But by Armok, it's got drool.

I tried to think of a humorous caption involving Urist Mcglassmaker, I've got nothing.

And I totally thought Rhesus' looked like blown glass.

Cool beans. Thank you!

Here's one of the few of my beasts that isn't a blob of vomit(seriously there's like 8 of them)

Sedme "Sedme"

Sedme was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of it's kind. An enormous porcupine with external ribs. It has a fat, bulging trunk and it is ravening. It's brown hair is long and straight. beware it's hunger for warm blood! Sedme was associated with water, torture, and caverns

Let's bring on the spikey horrors.

Atu seems more popular so far so I suppose I'll switch them if nobody minds. To be honest I liked him better anyway. :P

Yay! I tried to draw Zanor, but somewhere between the scanner and coloring I started hating him. so...many....legs. I've been drawing Atu instead.

I had a lot of fun drawing him. Tried some new stuff.
