DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:40:01 am »
Just had a goblin thief ambush my legendary woodcutter, and took his right arm clean off with a dagger. The tough mofo continued to chop down 2 more trees and was on his way to a 3rd when he fell unconscious from bloodloss (with a trail of blood from tree to tree)

Was totally monty python, with the description of "has sustained Minor injuries recently" - upgraded to "Major injuries" once a doc had diagnosed the problem.
Didn't need any medical care and walked straight out of the hospital. (I'm almost expecting it to grow back with this dwarfs regen stats)

"What's wrong with me Doc?"
"You have no right arm"
"Nah! It's just a flesh wound!"

Finding out I dont need to wait for migrants to come with the skills I need.

When you have 50+ dwarfs you'll know why everyone uses DwarfTherapist. 1 mouse click and you can make them all Brewers!
I'm so glad I don't use the ingame clusterf*ck skills assignment anymore.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, my millita commander (which I nicknamed Slaughter) instakilled two forgotten beasts. One made of flesh and the other made of some kind of gem.
He has something like 200 kills, and is the main source of meat for the fort.
It depends on the RNG. You always get easy ones that can be killed by a single crossbow bolt to tough mofos that make bronze colossus look like kittens. Add in the extra !fun! of syndromes that can instant-blind/ko/rot your dwarfs and doom your fort if any of that blood/splatter ends up in your hospital/well/dining/booze area.  :)

Bad News: Just had the worst mofo FB. Normally I fear the syndromes, but the deadly dust from this one was like a 25-30 square nuke.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Lost 3 steel clad legendary dwarfs and the rest in the hospital will probably never fight again. (We need wheelchairs Toady!)

Good News: Elves just brought two giant eagles (male + female)

You didn't have to throw the giant cave toad into the room with them!

Before you abandon, test your dwarfs against the HFS (if you haven't already)

I just found a dragon egg in a lair. Now I'm wondering if I can get it to hatch into a tame dragon in DF mode.

One of my pro military dwarfs just walked out of the hospital with x4 plaster casts and x8 splints.
I think he was faking it.

I don't even want to think about what the 100 nekkid dwarfs are doing crammed into a 5x5 well room, are doing with their soap.
They make a lot of friends though.

I'm thinking about trying the trick of making my adventurer a member of a fortress so they can heal him up in hospital. Probably keep them busy for months with all the smashed toes and fingers.

Basically there are no special items or artifacts in the game unless you create a fort and your dwarves create them
There is the unique named Art created in worldgen that can be on any piece of junk like a copper crossbow. I've only found about 2 out of 1500 in my current world. Shame there aren't any artifacts, there is a real shortage of loot in adv mode (other than made in a DF)

« on: June 11, 2011, 05:34:10 am »
I don't mind if some get the kill, I have a 2-3 companions that are legendary in their own right and the injuries to prove it.

But there was only 1 dragon left and I sure as fook wasn't going to let any of them get the credit!

I only had to worry about one spearman after the rest had their faces melted on the 1st turn - never did the duel part telling me about his 22 kills (including a demon armadillo ruler) It was a race to get the headshot and that bloody spearman stabbed it about 4-5 times in the head. As for the rest, they shouldn't have dropped their shields.

I got some nice *dragon tooth earrings* when I retired.. lol

If you are scarce on comrades in advent mode, you can simply create your own army by creating and retiring adventurers in a single town or fortress and then swoop by and recruit them all.

sounds like a good way to get them some gear too.

I started a new elf peasant to loot my old fortress, but had to trek a day to a town near it. I got there just after night fall (phew!) and found a house to sleep in. It was full of humans that were already asleep, and I knew one would wake up to give me permission.

One did wake up, followed by about 10 more. Then I realised I was in a *hostile* town... /facepalm

(time to roll a new adventurer, recruit an army and wipe that town off the map)

Does the brook freeze in winter? because it'll freeze just as you need the waterwheel or that injured dwarf needs water :)
