Life Advice / Re: List of people that are banned?
« on: September 25, 2009, 04:02:04 pm »
What's with all the resentment at those members, they were okay people as I remember.
I understand that Toady has to ban offenders or else that sort of behavior will become the norm.
But people in this thread are talking about them as lowlifes and all they did was offend a delicate flower or two, I'm starting to dislike this forum.

Well, maybe you don't, but people do.
Especially young boys the article was talking of.
Yes but the person in question effectively wants to enforce that view that homosexuals are bad which would result in him churning out a lot of sexually repressed homophobes.
Except that he doesn't and children already dislike gays naturally.

I don't see how the article had anything to do with homosexuality...
It's just like telling them you'll turn blind from watching porn, it's stupid since it won't work, but it's nothing to foam at.

A Good-Evil scale is stupid, since you can't determine the motive of the player, and there are multiple consequences out of which some are good, and some are bad.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
If the player is a member of a faction in conflict with other factions, and none of the factions are neither good nor evil, the game might have sense (since good and evil are just in your brain).

I suppose that would just be included under a calculated risk when they decided to use the road, they knew the danger and they took the risk.
But that means you're restricting what someone else can do by increasing the risk of something bad happening to them.
Maybe we should be more concerned as to how to stop these things from happening instead of cases where it does happen.
Accidents will always happen as long as people are driving, if people are responsible, their seatbelts are the least of your worries.
But how can they be responsible if the government is their nanny?
The government needs to be harsher with irresponsible people, even if it means restricting some of their freedom.

Well I liked it, but I have a soft spot for stories where most characters are retarded.
Would be better in some other form, like a comic, or an adventure game.
You stole that one from "Airplane!"

I firmly believe that religion is a fantastic way of getting people ticked off at one another.
Belonging to group of any kind will provoke a conflict with members of some other group, if there are no other groups, people will create new groups for sake of conflict.
Conflict is simply a key part of reality, you cannot remove it or ignore it. Embrace it.

I've always considered myself a supporter of the right-wing. I'm not a fan of racism or fascism. My belief in the right lies squarely in supporting individualism and the reduction of a centralised government. Recently however, I've started to have doubts. The right seems to be the side everyone hates, everyone sees them as heartless bastards who hate the poor. I'm not a horrible person, I give to charity and I believe charity is something that can function very well in a right-wing society as long as it isn't government controlled. The poor would depend on the kindness of others rather than an overbearing government. Sometimes I wonder why I don't just support the left, they're always depicted as the kind caring ones. What do you all think?
Viewed as heartless bastards by whom? Liberals?
If you are worried that people who think so are having a more accurate vision of the right, why don't you ask them what makes them think so.
Most probably it will be something non-rational as

Asking for a solid argument, they might show you how brainwashed they are.
Some of them might have arguments though, not good ones mind you, but they might be satisfying.
