The fortress is in bad shape.  Life in Lanternmansions is not what I believed it would be when I set out from the mountainhomes.  If I am to reverse this while I am overseer,  sweeping changes must be made to our priorities.  I have ceased all digging for the new dining hall until we have time for such luxury. 
Booze supplies will run out by year's end if nothing changes, so this will be my number 1 priority.

To do this the farming situation needs to be improved.  I have ordered a new 10 X 10 area dug out to expand farming and grow some outdoor crops. 

I have also ended the production of useless stone goods. We don't need them and they slow down the production of rock pots for booze. 
I have also told the mayor to stop everything else until he talks to the damned outpost liaison. 
The shortage of personal rooms is a strain on already low morale.  I have ordered production of more beds and will order rooms dug for them later. 
The number of coffins being created is rather disturbing and I have ordered the masons to stop.  If we ever have a sudden need for about 30 empty coffins we'll have a bigger problem on our hands than a coffin shortage.

A goblin snatcher was spotted in the middle of our fortress next to Eral Rig̣thatol, the child who created the maple cup with the same name.

I will send out the militia to deal with it.  It came in through the completely undefended Trade depot entrance.  I'm not sure why previous overseers decided we need 2 entrances, but until a more long term solution can be found I will assign a few soldiers to patrol the area.

The goblin was too fast.  It kidnapped Eral Rig̣thatol and shattered the skull of Archmonk's war dog.
Meanwhile our useless mayor has mandated the construction of large gems.  I told him we had more important things to make and that I can't just tell the gem cutter to cut a larger gem, but he insisted.  I think he's going to become a problem if his foolishness continues.

I have ordered a new craftsdwarf's workshop made so we can produce bolts without interrupting the supply of rock pots that we need for food and booze.   
We've just captured a goblin snatcher trying to sneak in the front entrance.  It's cage will be placed in the meeting hall for now.

Besmar Asmelrakusk finally died of dehydration.

Another goblin snatcher was spotted in the caravan entrance by one of our soldiers on patrol.  It is being torn apart by our soldiers and war dogs as I write this.  It is good to see the soldiers can deal with a minor threat like this one.  I still worry about what will happen to us should a more powerful enemy arrive. 
The puppy population is getting out of hand I will set the butchers to work fixing that right away.
The digging for the new crops is complete. Now I will order our masons to build a roof over them and then have our miners dig a tunnel to connect them to the rest of the fortress.  I will build the farm plots myself.

Migrants have arrived. 31 of them.  We are already short on rooms to sleep in.  I will dig out a few small bedrooms with just a bed for now.  It still won't be nearly enough, but the less crowded the dormitory gets the better.

A kobold thief was spotted and quickly dispatched by one of our hunters.

The new rooms I ordered dug have hit sand.  I won't make anyone sleep in a room not carved from stone so I've ordered the digging stopped and will dig new rooms further underground.

Things have been going more smoothly now but a kobold thief just sneaked past the traps and the dog at the main entrance. I will put another dog in the entrance to prevent it from happening again.

I should never have said that.  Today things are no longer "going smoothly" as I so foolishly put it. A vile force of darkness has arrived. We are under siege by a group of goblins.  Our forces our still too weak to deal with this threat and so I will call for a retreat to the more secure parts of the fortress.  If we wait to attack until after they get through the trapped hallway we might be able to fight them off with the troops we have.

A kobold happened to be sneaking around on the bridge when the lever was pulled.  Unfortunately it appears that the bridge throws things into the interior of the fortress.  I now have a kobold loose inside the fortress and all the armed military is busy gathering near the other entrance.  I'll recruit some civilians and hope there are no casualties.

I decided to send out the soldiers once they were gathered together to prevent the slaughter of our livestock.  3 deaths so far including the overseer before me.  I'm afraid I made a terrible mistake sending them out but I won't have the deaths so far be in vain.

The battle is over.  The goblins have been driven off.  I hesitate to call it a victory though. Our fighting force has been cut in half and of those remaining many are gravely wounded.  I refilled 2 of the squads with some fisherdwarves, peasants, and hunters.  During the next migration wave I will fill the last. 

Summer has arrived.  Booze supplies have almost doubled and will continue to grow if the stills keep running.  Morale has dropped and again as many dwarfs lost loved ones in the siege.  I'll have to make giving everyone a room a high priority over the next few months.

Yesterday the child Olon Etarurdim has started behaving suspiciously, and today he claimed a craftsdwarf's workshop.  I hope he makes something useful. 

Olon Etarurdim ran into a goblin snatcher while gathering stone.  I don't know how it got in, but I won't let it get out alive.

The goblin is dead.  Olon is safe to work on his secret project.
