DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Anyone play "pure" DF?

No tilesets or custom RAWs. I'll eventually use dfhack for digging out metal veins, but that's it.

You should also be wary of vampires. In my experience, the most awesomely skilled dwarves just might be ancient bloodsuckers.

Generally I buy all available logs, metal bars and most barrels and drinks. Also often, especially later in the game, I buy all the steel and iron armor, weapons and anvils to be smelted and reforged by own armor-/weaponsmiths.

Really, it's just another source for raw materials (and drinks). Sometimes I have my military use bought armor and weapons, but the goal is to make those in good quality myself.

Most of my recent fortress deaths have been due to forgotten beasts. More specifically ones that breathe poisonous, paralyzing or otherwise deadly things.

So wait, this still works? I used to be able to do this in older versions, but more recently nothing happens.

*Empirical experimentation*

Okay, they removed at least a few pieces of armor; caps and shields. I don't know if they still have their weapons and other stuff.

Success! Marksdwarf killed the Titan by punching it and biting it in the head repeatedly!
Now there's a mental image.

Speaking of which, do dwarves ever convict someone themselves? Or is it ONLY convicted if you personally convict them?
I also want to know the answer to this.

Also, perhaps this is an unintended way of detecting vampires. I have two dwarves I suspect are vampires, one of them seems almost certain. I noticed their description has a huuuge list of "He is a former member of (...)", like 20 lines of that. It says they're only 80-90 years old. I have a presumably non-vampire dwarf, who is 141 years old, yet he has no similar long list of former associations. So the question is: Are the vampires lying about their ages, but the history (unintentionally) gives away their much, much longer true age?

Loathsome filth for me. I guess I go lucky, since it only seems to cause (severe cases of) nausea. What's even better is that kobold thieves seem to get detected when they're retcing and vomiting while trying to sneak.

I had a fort recently get an initial migrant wave the first summer of just two dwarves, a married couple. And an animal of some sort. Don't remember what.
Pretty much the same thing happened to me. Except I don't know if the two were married and there were two or three animals.

My military (9 dwarves, random iron weaponry) defeated an ambush of about 6 goblins. It was no longer a complete slaughter like in the older versions. There was still limbs and blood flying, but it took quite a bit longer to terminate the goblins' sad existence.

I liked the lego analogy from a few pages back. I'd just add that your lego people are basically deaf and blind, so you can't tell them what to do directly; instead you must often trick them into doing what you want. And they're also immensely stupid.

Plus magma.

I don't think the civilization menu works. According to it, I'm at peace with all other races, including kobolds, goblins and orcs. Still I get sieges. I was at war with the humans for a while and the civ menu told I'm at peace

Do you possibly have them as "Available" (to be pets)? I don't know if this could have any effect on it, but just throwing it out there

That picture is pure brilliance.

I think it's great how dwarves apparently fight "dirty". A soldier goes sparring with a baby in her hands and her opponent slaps the baby off her hands, *seeking infant*.
