The corpse of the Pope just got put on trial for its debauchery.

Is...is this a thing that actually happened?! Because that shit is hilarious.
It did.

Yeah, looks like weird things might happen if I give them the kingdom. It does still look useful to vassalize them, though. I'm the only independent Germanic pagan left, so it's not like I want them to help defend other vikings out there. I think I'll just give them a sprinkling of the baronies I'm seizing from Slavs and Catholics, so they have some teeth if I ever need them. I'm guessing once I make the push to reclaim Germanic holy sites I'll get hit with a crusade, since apparently taking Braunschweig triggers it for them.

That's nothing, try hitting Rome with a lolconquest.
I did that, backpedaled immediately.

You have seven duchies? Dat demense limit.

And yeah, India's a bitch. The worst part is even if you get the claims you need to make shit happen you can't really stand a chance against all the established empires as they almost never break up and they're so much stronger than you.

Well I held only four or five counties, I had twenty-two counts under me. I just had to hold onto the ducal titles myself.

Good thing is that all the claims I pressed were against other vassals (bypassing the big empire), or the few independant dukes close to me. But half of my territory I inherited without a fight.

Hindu holy order can make shit happen.  Last time I played in India, (which was a while), the hindu holy order was 8300 heavy infantry to the other holy order's 2000 and change troops.  This was early on when that was a significant number of troops, I assume it gets larger later.

But yeah, in a lot of ways being a vassal in India is like being a minor in the HRE.  Its all about the big push where you get your kid to be a distant heir to a larger power, and then kill everyone in between.  Since you've got a big empire protecting you, you can neglect your levies a bit and forget about mercs; all the money is for delicious delicious bribes.

Holy orders are all fine, but we're all hindu down here. The buddhists are all up near the himalayas and I'm on the southern tip. ::)

I'm on an India game at the moment. Gavelkind's a bitch, and the lack of CB means it took me two hundred years to finally become king. Began on Charlemagne start as a vassal duke in the southern tip of india, became independant king the 15 december 945.

My main source of land was weddings. Lots of weddings. And thousands of gold in claim fabrications. I had to reconquer my second duchy three times because of gavelkind and assassinate a brother or two for the same reason. Then I married my heir to a seven-counties duchess and suddenly I controlled a good half of the kingdom. Still not enough for independance. I got owned when I forgot I joined a faction and it fired. We got our ass handed to us but I got away with a 250 gold fine (gift+ransom) and a slap on the wrist. Then I pressed my 73yo mother's claim on the other guy's duchy. That'll teach him to fire factions too early.

The final move was marrying my two sons to the second and third daughters of the king of ceylon. Their only son died in infancy long ago, and the first daughter died of illness (lucky me). I killed the second so the third, married to my heir (ultimogeniture), would get the throne.
She did, but she gave me two sons. And I forgot to take in account that, while I was in ultimogeniture, the kingdom I coveted wasn't. So my firstborn got the throne, but I ended up as my second son, who got the other seven duchies. In frustration, I declared war for independance. Almost won but died in the middle of it of "natural causes". Shiva damnit. So war ends inconclusively, I wait ten years for the regency to end, and I see that I have a claim on the kingdom of ceylon, that I could've pressed long ago. War was quick, finally I am king (it was long overdue too, I was hitting vassal limit, and because of shitty heirs I couldn't decentralize lest I got over the demesne limit.). And independant.

My former liege was pissed. Think about it, I got away with two of his kingdom titles, seven duchies, and twenty-six counties. You too would be pissed if half your realm seceded.

A few years later he DoWed me. Press all claims. I won, but if I didn't it was almost game over for me. Also I married my heir to a six-counties duchess in his realm. Which ended up in my realm.

I married my heir to the princess of pratihara but she died. I married the second but she died as well. Oh well. If the king had the decency to die earlier I could've pressed her claim to the two kingdom he held and would've been inherited by the two underage sons under gavelkind. And become emperor, hopefully.

As it stands, it's back to claim fabrication. And fighting ginormous wars over single counties.

No wonder india never changes if the player doesn't touch it.

I like my yellow color though.

Isnt this new teleportation feature in Art of War? Could've sworn I saw something about if they had all land on one continent/island they would teleport over the sea.
Just for rebels, but yeah they do that, on account of them not having boats, and it's probably simpler to abstract the boats rather than getting the rebels to spawn cogs, embark, and go somewhere, and then you have to deal with rebel naval units and it's gettiing confusing, and the AI has no concept of transports in the first place.

rebels teleport
What is this heresy? :o
They don't have boats so to prevent them from getting stuck on islands they teleport.

In other news, whereas the Curiosity rover had previously not detected methane, it now apparently has: http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-30456664

It shows up from time to time, blown in from some source in the rim of the crater to the north. Which opens up the potential to determine whether it is caused by life if they can get a decent sample of it:
Quote
One way to investigate whether the methane on Mars has a biological or a geological origin would be to study the types, or isotopes, of carbon atom in the gas.

On Earth, life favours a lighter version of the element (carbon-12), over a heavier one (carbon-13).

A high C-12 to C-13 ratio in ancient Earth rocks has been interpreted as evidence that biological activity existed on our world as much as four billion years ago.

If scientists could find similar evidence on Mars, it would be startling. But, sadly, the volumes of methane detected by Curiosity are simply too small to run this kind of experiment.

"If we had enriched our sample during one of the peaks, we might have had a shot at looking at these isotopes," explained Dr Mahaffy.

"I think there is still some hope. If the methane comes back, and we can enrich it, we'll certainly be trying."

It might have to do with the time (0035), but my mind is blown that we could potentially proove the existence of life on mars by smelling faint whiffs of methane and counting the number of neutrons the carbons in said methane have. With a robot. On mars.

Sounds like either conquer all non-Muslim states in the region (map-mode) of Anatolia, or have all of your (again, region) Anatolia provinces be Muslim?
The wiki says all my anatolia provinces must be muslim. The game itself is pretty unclear though, it tells you that:

 (X) not one province in anatolia is:
NOT ottoman
in muslim group

Or something to that effect. It's really confusing. I thought I needed to own all muslim provinces in anatolia.

Switched around and became the Ottomans. Didn't saw the truce on one of the turkish minors. At least I think that was a truce, I suddenly found myself at -3 stab and with a coalition. Oops. But hey, the invasion of anatolia was ahead of schedule, hurray!

On the downside, I had to vassalize the guy who entered the coalition with the mamlukes, because I wasn't fighting five years for two cores.

There was a neat mission about cleansing the unbelievers from anatolia or something, it promised 30 army tradition, but I couldn't understand what I was supposed to do exactly. Instead I took the "conquer levant" one. Nice little checklist, claims galore, just have to wait until the end of the truce...

Tried a second game today, after a very short first a year ago as muscovy. I tried the Mamluks, thinking it'd be easy enough.

I severely underestimated the f*cking turks.

All was well and I was expanding quickly (though that alliance with Hedjaz was a grievous error in hindsight), but everything changed when the ottomans attacked.

I was ROFLSTOMPED into the ground in no time, tried to expand into africa to compensate, but the land down there is shit and the people rebel all the time. I got the things barely under control, and then the ottomans attack again.

Second ROFLSTOMP, I can't stop them, and africa is rebelling. I ragequit. I'll probably play someone else next time. Maybe the ottomans.

I'm somewhat confused, is the dragon an insta-WC button? Or do you have unlimited CBs and a ridiculously OP unit?
