Curses / Re: How do you actually get policy changed?
« on: April 07, 2013, 05:07:19 pm »
OK.  First, LCS isn't actually that compatible with actual sociology.  If at any point you think "that doesn't make sense", well, maybe it doesn't, but run it through a Hollywood filter first.  Movie Physics, Rule of Cool, etc are very prevalent.

As for public opinion's effect on the issues: yeah, it doesn't happen too often, but when it does it's immediate and significant.

Every significant political shift hits at the end of a month.  Elections are at the end of October to simulate Election Day (Tuesday after the first Monday in November. /BA in political science).  You get direct popular vote on laws once per year, Congress/Presidential voting/signature twice per year IIRC, and Supreme Court decisions/appointments once per year.  I can dig up the schedule of what happens when if you like--got it on another computer.  There's a kinda-secret way to directly affect one issue, but that's a one-time deal.

Pretty confident that Presidential is four years--did Fox change it?

Thanks, but you don't have to dig up the schedule for me. I would like to know how to directly influence policy on an issue though- I kinda figured that sweatshop raids would affect labor laws and immigration laws, that kind of thing. Am I wrong?

Thanks for the replies, but how do you sway public opinion? Somehow I don't think killing security guards and spraying graffiti really gives people a good image when they think liberal. Is there some other way to sway opinion, or is it mostly based on site raids?

How do you change policy? Government is full of conservatives. I guess you just keep getting into the newspaper to gain attention? Does writing for the liberal guardian actually influence anything? Sorry for the newby questions, but even after searching google/ the wiki I'm still at a loss.

I am completely hooked on LCS right now, even if I have no idea how to actually influence policy enough to win.

Anyway, I'm trying to juice up my liberals by having them spray up the crackhouse, but even when I leave without conservative suspicion, they are wanted for vandalism. All of them too, not just the one with the spray can. The same goes for murders.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?
You're spraying walls with the word "LCS." Its obvious who it is, and it has to be the one who leaves the place hold a spray can

Yeah, but if you can conceal a gun, why can't you conceal a spraycan? Also how is it known who all is in LCS, I thought the members were somewhat secretive.

Anyway, is there anyway to turn yourself in to go through the court precedings? I have a couple sleeper judges, so I'd rather just give them a clean slate now rather than wait until they're out doing legal things to get arrested

Does anyone put points into social skills? I rarely get migrants with them. I know that they are pretty useless, but I usually make both my miners proficient comedians, so they don't get bored while they work  :)

Well could you tell me what DFhack command I might use to change attribute points in adventure mode? I would be extremely grateful

Have you look at the modding section and dive through a thread called dfhack?

Yes, that was one of the first things I looked through. I didn't see much for adventure mode though.

Is there any program or anything that allows you to edit your adventurer's inventory and skills/attributes? I would really like to go on an adventure of total death that inspires future fortresses to make engravings about. I've tried searching the forums and google but couldn't seem to find anything, so any help would be appreciated.

I liked the part where he directly ordered a dwarf to get chained up. Finally, a nice way to get rid of migrants!

You could copy paste the definitions for adamantine over the ones for the given stone.

Keep in mind that this would convert all Gabbro in the existence of that particular game universe into adamantine immediately completely erasing all Gabbro stone from existence and replacing it all with adamantine.

Actually, that would just make gabbro look and act exactly like raw adamantine.  They'd still be two different materials, just with the exact same name and properties.

Wasn't there a DFhack tool or something similar that allowed you to change rock?

Not that I know of (which of course proves nothing), but I see no obvious reason why one couldn't be written, given that DFHack does have access to the necessary data.  It's just a Simple Matter Of Programming.

Welp, I guess it's time to learn modding. If I figure out how to do it, I'll share ;)

But it is possible to add a reaction like that? Something that will let engravers turn unmined rocks into unmined adamantine?

[INORGANIC:RAW_ADAMANTINE]

[INORGANICE:GABBRO]

XXX   /

Keep in mind that this would convert all Gabbro in the existence of that particular game universe into adamantine immediately completely erasing all Gabbro stone from existence and replacing it all with adamantine.

If you are hoping for a way to just convert that particular clump of stone without converting everything in the entire game universe, I'm afraid that I don't think it is currently possible.

Thank you for that, but I just want a chunk in my fort to be converted..
I'm not really sure how reactions work, but would there be someway to create a reaction like "Smooth Stone" into "Turn into Adamantine"? Like wouldn't changing a rock to smooth just be changing the property of the rock anyway?

DF Modding / Changing stones?
« on: September 28, 2011, 01:26:12 am »
I ran a couple searches, but couldn't find anything.

Is there a mod that will allow me to change all (or large quantities) of unmined rock I have on the map to another type of rock? I want my dwarves' rooms to be lined with (soon to be engraved) adamantine!

But seriously, I do want to have walls not made out of gabbro or orthoclase.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No nobles?
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:09:08 pm »
I've had the visits where they ask me what I want from them, I don't know if those count. I haven't had the one where they ask me to become a barony though. I've also offered them ~100k worth of crafts.

EDIT: Could you guys tell me when you start getting nobles? I read the requirements on the wiki, and if the minimum population is 20, it seems like I'm long over-due. Does world age factor into it? (maybe if the civilization isn't huge it doesn't want a barony?)
