I just bought the Steam version and I'm really liking it so far. The art, music, and sound effects add a lot to the game. And overall I think the new UI is an improvement (I'd already played a bit of the Classic 50.xx versions).

Though it's still kind of weird playing with native non-ASCII graphics and full mouse support. Like DF from an alternate reality.

I recently reclaimed one of the game-created fort ruins. Instead of a forgotten beast deep within the fortress, which I'd encountered before with reclaims, there was a demon in the first cavern level. I couldn't wall off in time and all my dwarves were killed within the first season.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Siege of undead and living invaders

I didn't know if this ever happened to other people or was something weird going on with my game. So I guess that raises the question that you always ask yourself while playing DF: feature or bug?

DF Gameplay Questions / Siege of undead and living invaders
« on: May 03, 2015, 03:25:24 pm »
So I embarked near a tower and eventually a group of zombies besieged by fortress. So far so good. Then, a few years later a siege arrived with the announcement "The dead walk. Hide while you still can!", but it was made up of zombie elves and living (non-necromancer) humans. Which doesn't make sense, especially since undead automatically attack all living things. And the invaders are just standing around and not going to my fort, even with the doors unlocked and several animals outside.

Unrelated question: Is the only way dwarfs will wear clothes after theirs fall apart is if I draft them and assign them clothes?

Unsure about the rest of your post, but my understanding is that yes, this is how the current game works.  Supposedly Toady disabled picking up new clothes to fix an FPS problem or something.

That's what I though. Thanks.

And it turns out the dwarf civ wasn't dead. Caravans continued to show up, just no leaders were listed except for the liaisons.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Invincible Child
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:13:29 pm »
So after a HFS invasion I only have one surviving dwarf, a child who is lying on the floor wounded and unconscious (and being harassed by a moaning ghost). The thing is, she has been there for over two seasons without moving (I'm pretty sure) and she is still alive and not even hungry or thirsty. I kind of feel sorry for her, but I want to see how this plays out. I guess it's some kind of bug?

I had a forgotten beast in my current fort named Sodor Snotfiend the Deceiver of Crotches...
You don't happen to still have the description of said (better off) forgotten beasty, do you?

"A gigantic frog with external ribs. It has four broad horns and it has a bloated body. It's brass skin is leathery. Beware its fire!"

Is it possible for your civilization to die out while you are playing? I was getting migrants and dwarf caravans like normal for around 10 years (sometimes I lowered the population cap to stop migrants, but it's back up now) and the dwarfs had a monarch (and some others) listed in the civilizations menu. But now it says "This land has no important leaders", no caravan or liaison came in the fall, and twice I've gotten the "your fortress attracted no migrants this season" message. Have all the other dwarfs in this civ died? Is there a way I can find out for sure?
