DF Gameplay Questions / Rescue Prisoner Mission Not Working
« on: December 04, 2017, 06:46:15 am »
When I try to rescue a prisoner from another site, the mission just ends instantly, and the mission log is empty and doesn't move, implying that they never left the tile my fort was on. Is this a bug?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Question about Hist Figs
« on: December 05, 2016, 09:20:50 pm »
Some some Dwarf just showed up as my outpost liaison. He is a member of a nearby Goblin government and is the administrator of a site that the goblins have put in after they took it over, but is still part of my civ. The site has a population of 12 Dwarves and has an administrator that is part of a Dwarvern civ, but still counts as being a Goblin site.

What the hell???????????? I'm confuse.

DF Gameplay Questions / Question about Hist Figs
« on: December 04, 2016, 04:08:02 am »
Currently, there is a civ in my world that only has one site that has not been sacked called Dawncaves, and it is a mountain hall a population of 8. Their last site other than this was destroyed in 150, and the world is currently at 1052. Since about 152, the only events in the entire civ has been switches in management.

Despite this, when I look in the administration of the Dwarves, counts and barons are still listed among leadership. The funny part is that the number of nobles exceeds 8, even though that's the population of the entire civ (????)

Looking into it further, the actual groups these people were members of and where they live is a little weird. Here's a picture of Melbil Graniteanguished:

This Dwarf, a countess, currently has her home building in a Goblin occupied hamlet, is a member of the government of the hamlet in question (The Twinkling Doom), and is a "former member" of the government of the single remaining dwarf site while simultaneously still being a member of the civ.
Check out this guy:

What site is this guy a Baron of? Dawncaves already has mayor and a king. So why does this guy even exist? Why is he a baron? Where does he live, and is he counted in the population of 8 Dwarves?

This is less of an actual gameplay question and more of a LARP-y inquiry. What's going on here?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: World without caverns
« on: November 29, 2016, 02:04:19 pm »
I do not beleive a world can gen with no caverns. It may be possible that your embark just has a smaller cavern and you have therefore not found it yet. It's also very possible even with a normal sized cavern, if you just dig a stairway straight down, that you just missed breaking into any of the caverns and just avoided them all.

Keep digging tunnels around that level and you should find it eventually.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do I get rid of "named" weapons?
« on: November 29, 2016, 11:57:59 am »
[m]ilitary
[e]quip
[w]eapon
Choose "specific weapon" on the dwarf is question (iirc it's the first option)
Choose whatever you want
Remove the indiv choice weapon assignment

This MAY work, in conjunction with dumping or forbidding the named weapon. When it comes to items military dwarves are attached to, I find they only prefer that item when the assigned equipment allows them to grab it (Indiv choice weapon, metal shield/buckler, etc). This is usually how I melt down weapons dwarves have gotten attached to.

Edit: have not tried this with named weapons so science has to be done.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: FPS Death with 30 pop?

I have a bird breeding farm and the nest boxes sometimes tend to get claimed by birds in another room, and they path endlessly through a forbidden door so that might be it. Also have a forbidden door to the first cave level that people may be trying to path through. Would sing a bridge instead of doors fix the issue?

I have a waterfall generator but it's not on because I suspected it would have been causing the lag, but I was wrong. I am on a map with loads of trees but it's not autumn or anything; currently winter. Not on an evil biome either, and I am not getting job cancelation spams in my announcments.

In doing all the proper proscedure to save my FPS; restricting doorways to limit path finding, cleaning regularly using dfhack, atom smashing old clothes and refuse, etc.

DF Gameplay Questions / FPS Death with 30 pop?
« on: November 28, 2016, 10:09:10 pm »
Most recent version 32-bit, alpha-2 of DFhack, using therapist. FPS is generally at 25-30, but will sometimes perk up to 65-70. Both are too low, as I've usually gotten 150+ FPS with this population size. Seems like my FPS is dying for absolutely unforeseeable reasons? Is it just that the most recent version is badly optimised at 32-bit? I'm only using that version because it works with therapist. Would appreciate some help.

They never just vanished. Even way back in 40d, they appeared in dwarven fortresses elsewhere in bulk.
I'm pretty sure
They currently disappear.
is correct. It's what I've always head, at least.

DF Gameplay Questions / Trouble Burying Corpses in Reanimating Biome
« on: November 24, 2016, 11:22:31 pm »
Title. Dwarves will refuse to be bury corpses. I notice specifically once a Dwarf has been reanimated then killed, the sprite of the corpse changes from the default one that it was before. Afterwards, while the corpse will be brought to an available burial, instead of being buried it will just be sat on top of the grave, same with limbs and other bits. After this some other asshole will pick up the job to bury it, walk over, then just pick it up and place it back down on top of the grave. Rinse and repeat this, and the corpse never actually gets placed in the coffin and dorfs run back and forth constantly.

For the most part it will not reanimate since the head is usually pulped from some blunt weapon, but arms and legs sat on it will come back and spook people from time to time. Luckily everyone in the fort is desensitised enough to deal with it.

This leaves me in the weird situation of either making slabs for every single dead dwarf (which is a pain in the ass to manage what with slabs not telling you if they're engraved when you try to build them) or just letting the family members be sad, atom smashing the corpse to avoid reanimation in both cases.

Edit: Didn't really include a question in the thread. So: How to I fix this and get burials to work properly? If that's impossible, what's the next best solution?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Marksdwarves warping through fortifications

Weird, since goblins can't get in. Will building walls then carving them afterwards negate this issue?

Did you put the wall ON the fortification, or over the empty space above where dwarves stand?
the tile showed as empty space when i was building but it is directly overtop of the fortification
