I like the idea of having DF on steam for me personally, it's not a good fit for steam.

You also underestimate the number of whiners there are on steam, especially for free games.

Non-platforming games that suddenly have very difficult platform segments near the end

This is doubly so for me because platformers are the only genre that I consistently suck at.
Or in the middle and everything else is a breeze?
I'm staring at you, clocktower of every Castlevania game ever.

Going from borderlands 2 to fallout 3 makes me really hate the fact there are not keyboard standards beyond wasd and standards between falling damages.
I almost wish there never was a game without falling damage because going from one to the other is so frustrating when you die from what looks to be a six foot drop.
As for standards, it makes immersion difficult and I'm constantly tapping alt (from borderlands) expecting to go faster and instead I move slower (aim). M now does not bring up the map. E is not a "take all" button, it's now "Leave it all there, you were supposed to press A" and the whole thing just makes me want to flip a table because now I have to rebind every damned key in the game and go back through the game to see if I totally "E"d all the ammo boxes and that's why I have no ammo.

Fell off a single story house. -_-
Going from borderlands 2 to fallout 3 makes me loathe falling damage standards.
My Kajit would have still lived easy.

Other Games / Kickstarter projects anyone?
« on: August 12, 2013, 10:16:07 pm »
Due to the lack of sandbox building games and having gone through seemingly everything on the market, I've found myself on kickstarter, throwing a few dollars at projects when I can. TUG, Frontiers and Stonehearth were all ones that I've thrown money at.

Here's a current one that reminded me of this game. It'll never be anywhere near as complex as this game but the controls and graphics look infinitely better than towns, gnomoria etc. Has anyone found anything on kickstarter worth mentioning that fits this genre?

Built well. Watched all the water run through the pipes. Figured it would take a while to fill up.

Went off to build some new workshops, set new mining tasks. Came back to a flooded dining hall because I forgot to go check it again and close the floodgate when it got full. Well, there went 5 hours of trying to buid this stupid well....

I tried that. It's how I've fucked up every single one of the pre-set world gen options some way or another. Thanks though, I'll just try again with new settings until one sticks since I guess getting someone else to list entire paramaters takes too long for the other person.

DF Gameplay Questions / Newb trying to play with advanced parameters
« on: June 18, 2013, 01:31:23 pm »
I'm trying to make a new world with parameters that will help with my FPS problem, but I can't seem to make it work... Worlds keep getting rejected for one reason or another.
I'd like to have:
-As much good as I possibly can (last time I played, there were no good plants as a bug so I'm eager to try those.)
-little to no evil
-very small caverns
Maybe I should eliminate the caverns and the bottom part altogether just to make sure there is no sneaky running water anywhere.

Can someone help me set what the parameters would be that would actually work? :) Thank you in advance.

DF Gameplay Questions / Has "lag of death" been fixed?
« on: June 14, 2013, 07:18:53 pm »
I really want to play this game again so badly. But every single one of my fortresses slows to a crawl and eventually dies. To the point where my BF suspects I have melted the GPU of my last two computers playing this game.
There was a problem by having items in your fortress. Even if they were deleted or traded away, this contributed to the death lag because the items still existed in the memory somewhere until the game simply could not be played. Pathing was also an issue. The more stones you dug out, the more possible paths for your dwarves to take and the computer calculated every single one until eventually you ran out of processing power. Being near any water also made the fortress die faster.

Has this been fixed? Was it only an issue with the texture packs? I'll learn ascii if it means I can play the game again.

Auto run. I'M STARING AT YOU, MINECRAFT!  >:( This is a staple. It angers me when it is not present. (unless it's ingrained as part of the mechanics like Diablo. Yeah, I'm sure I'm not making sense.)

Little things. I'm very addicted to little things, and little details that game makers actually put in the game. Look up Skyrim's TV tropes and be amazed:
-Sit down in a tavern and the waitress will automatically approach you and ask what you want to drink.
-Skeletons only get jostled by Fus Ro Dah because most of the force doesn't actually hit them but simply passes through the empty spaces between their bones. Draugr, which have preserved skin, however, can be knocked back with the full force of the shout.
-Sneak into a room with bandits and drop something valuable on the floor, like a gemstone. The bandits will argue with each other over the object, and eventually attack each other.
ect.

Going to also say character editors. Nothing breaks immersion than having a choice of 3 heads and what color your skin is. Champions Online is the best paper doll game I've played yet. Bonus points if you get NPC reactions positive or negative for what your character race is (Oblivion?)

edit: dangit. Sorry :(

Had me worried there, thought you were serious, for a second I though this game was turning you into a psychopath!"

I laugh each time my boyfriend cringes whenever I say "Yay! Puppies!" because we both know this means more soap. I've also told him in great detail how an atom smasher works and the dangers of pets and children. Yup, this is a very odd game.

Sounds like you need to invest in a few pairs of wardogs. They make the most wonderful soaps and many many meats.

...What?

My dining hall is always set up like a feast hall. Double rows of tables that go the length of the hall with the chairs on the outside. This leaves the outside as room for engraved pillars, statues and other gaudy things.
